Sinopse: Peter Clark não se considerava um bom partido, apesar de ser um dos neurocirurgiões mais respeitados de San Antonio. Então, por que Violet Fortune, a bela neurologista nova-iorquina, olha para ele com segundas intenções?
This book started out so well but crashed .. disappointing. One reason is the series mystery thread that is unresolved at the book’s end. But primarily it is the main characters decisions that were so disappointing and it got soapy.
Fifth book in the Fortunes of Texas: Reunion series of novels. This is New York raised neurologist, Miss Violet Fortune is a really great doctor, but she needs a change in her life as she is watching her family start to pair up and get married (see: the other books in this series to see how two of her triplet brothers find their brides). When she stays in Texas for her brothers' wedding she thinks it is going to be a pleasure visit, but quickly it becomes a nightmare when she finds out that Ryan is hiding a health problem from his wife Lily which turns out to be fatal cancer. So she is keeping secrets for him as a doctor but also as a family member. She has her own secrets which keeps her aloof from any lasting relationships, but she is very attracted to Peter who is another great doctor. Peter has his own past filled with painful disappointments, but it just brings them closer to understanding each other. So one thing leads to another and they get together. Now let me step on to my soap box because at this point the story really angered me. The lady doctor is pressured by Peter to only focus her life on children and the home and at that point my feminist voice started to yell really loud, 'Danger!' because I agree that she should go to part time until her new daughter gets through physical therapy and settles into the new home and family, but after a year or two, Violet should do what is best for her passion to help others as a doctor with out limiting her to the domestic sphere!. WHAT?! Who let this backward repressive thinking get published?! Ok, I've now calmed down with a nice cuppa with deep breaths. So Violet has the right to stay home if she wants to, but if Peter loved her, he would support her in all her decisions and not just the ones that he personally wants for her. Loving someone also leaves them free to be themselves! 217 pages and another chapters for two other books from this series. 2 stars
