I always love Winnie the Pooh books because they usually provide lessons for children in a fun way. Specifically, this book talks about working together and making new friends. I also liked this book because it incorporates colors which makes it a concept book. My favorite thing about this book is how easy the story line is to follow even with it providing lessons. I think it is great book for children.
The moral of the story seemed to just be tacked on at the end as some sort of afterthought, it was a okay book. Typical wholesome pooh story, not very memorable. Adding this because I read it to the students at work Wednesday (2nd grade class, I think it's a bit more kindergarten level but they wanted it).
We used this story in our "Blustery Day" story time. We asked the children questions about what was happening in the story or what they predict will happen next.
As an aside, I mentioned to the mom’s that this is called “dialogic reading”. Dialogic Reading is a method that helps young children become involved in the story. Doing this helps children develope "Narrative Skills" which in turn will be helpful to their learning how to read.
