This textbook has a section in the kindle “sample” dedicated to the history of virology and the experiments that led to the explanation of symptoms and infectious agents that couldn’t be explained by known bacteria or Koch’s postulates. For those with no background knowledge on viruses, like me, it requires the embrace of your inner dictionary jockey (so kindle has been a helpful way to read it). It’s as fascinating as the show cosmos that Neil deGrasse Tyson hosted a while back that goes into the “how” of scientific discoveries. Thankfully, it allows for a deeper dive, since it’s focused on viruses.

Very well cited and presented as a captivating story of viruses and the people who pieced together their mysteries.
