Our friends are drowning in enemies! First, Miroku and Sango face a poisonous adversary; then, Inuyasha is attacked by the half-man, half-machine--but all evil--monstrosity known as Ginkotsu. Later, our friends encounter a mountain so sacred that most of them aren't even good enough to set foot on it. And finally, when their battle with the undead assassins known as the Band of Seven looks all but lost, Inuyasha and his comrades get some unlikely help from his brother, Sesshomaru, and rival, wolf demon Koga. Everything comes down to a fiery climax as another one of Naraku's malevolent plots is revealed!
Rumiko Takahashi (高橋留美子) was born in Niigata, Japan. She is not only one of the richest women in Japan but also one of the top paid manga artists. She is also the most successful female comic artist in history. She has been writing manga non-stop for 31 years.
Rumiko Takahashi is one of the wealthiest women in Japan. The manga she creates (and its anime adaptations) are very popular in the United States and Europe where they have been released as both manga and anime in English translation. Her works are relatively famous worldwide, and many of her series were some of the forerunners of early English language manga to be released in the nineties. Takahashi is also the best selling female comics artist in history; well over 100 million copies of her various works have been sold.
Though she was said to occasionally doodle in the margins of her papers while attending Niigata Chūō High School, Takahashi's interest in manga did not come until later. During her college years, she enrolled in Gekiga Sonjuku, a manga school founded by Kazuo Koike, mangaka of Crying Freeman and Lone Wolf and Cub. Under his guidance Rumiko Takahashi began to publish her first doujinshi creations in 1975, such as Bye-Bye Road and Star of Futile Dust. Kozue Koike often urged his students to create well-thought out, interesting characters, and this influence would greatly impact Rumiko Takahashi's works throughout her career.
Career and major works:
Takahashi's professional career began in 1978. Her first published story was Those Selfish Aliens, a comedic science fiction story. During the same year, she published Time Warp Trouble, Shake Your Buddha, and the Golden Gods of Poverty in Shōnen Sunday, which would remain the home to most of her major works for the next twenty years. Later that year, Rumiko attempted her first full-length series, Urusei Yatsura. Though it had a rocky start due to publishing difficulties, Urusei Yatsura would become one of the most beloved anime and manga comedies in Japan.
In 1980, Rumiko Takahashi found her niche and began to publish with regularity. At this time she started her second major series, Maison Ikkoku, in Big Comic Spirits. Written for an older audience, Maison Ikkoku is often considered to be one of the all-time best romance manga. Takahashi managed to work on Maison Ikkoku on and off simultaneously with Urusei Yatsura. She concluded both series in 1987, with Urusei Yatsura ending at 34 volumes, and Maison Ikkoku being 15.
During the 1980s, Takahashi became a prolific writer of short story manga, which is surprising considering the massive lengths of most of her works. Her stories The Laughing Target, Maris the Chojo, and Fire Tripper all were adapted into original video animations (OVAs). In 1984, after the end of Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku, Takahashi took a different approach to storytelling and began the dark, macabre Mermaid Saga. This series of short segments was published sporadically until 1994, with the final story being Mermaid's Mask. Many fans contend that this work remains unfinished by Takahashi, since the final story does not end on a conclusive note.
Another short work left untouched is One-Pound Gospel, which, like Mermaid Saga, was published erratically. The last story to be drawn was published in 2001, however just recently she wrote one final chapter concluding the series
Later in 1987, Takahashi began her third major series, Ranma ½. Following the late 80s and early 90s trend of shōnen martial arts manga, Ranma ½ features a gender-bending twist. The series continued for nearly a decade until 1996, when it ended at 38 volumes. Ranma ½ is one of Rumiko Takahashi's most popular series with the Western world.
During the later half of the 1990s, Rumiko Takahashi continued with short stories and her installments of Mermaid Saga and One-Pound Gospel until beginning her fourth major work, InuYasha. While Ran
Another great volume. I do vaguely remember the Mt Hakurei (sp?) stuff from the anime, but not enough to be bored reading it. It’s hard for me to believe that this is the half way point.
Just, holy cake, this volume. Has to be hands down my favorite for so many reasons. 1.) Has the best Inuyasha and Kagome moments. When they both cry thinking the other is dead, risking lives to save each other, its all good. Just my heart, I loved it! 2.) Band of Seven was, by far, my favorite arc when I watched the show. It was around here that it was written so fast paced and progressing stories, characters, relationships, it is really the best part of the series. 3.) Bankotsu. Sweet Mother Above, Bankotsu is probably the first hard core anime crush I have on someone who is not one of the man characters/love interest. (For sake of argument, I'm excluding Sesshomaru in that statement). And for so many more things. I love how this felt like the first semi climax with all of the characters after Naraku, so we literally see the full cast in nearly every volume/episode of this arc. I love how there is a bit of mystery, and Sesshomaru is the one piecing it together. Sesshomaru not only are you the best single dad, badass, and detective who is only after Naraku for arguably "the smallest grudge of everyone", but you do it all with one arm. Such a high from reading it, a perfect volume to get me hyped in the series some more.
halfway to the series ! I like how busy this volume is~
although, even tho I enjoy Miroku… Sango’s character continues to look like a fool floundering in battle alongside her growing cringey feelings for a pervy monk. STAND UP! Aren’t you supposed to be a badass slayer? 🙄
You know what, I've forgotten a lot about the anime already, but the arc of the Band of the Seven? This has to be one of my favorites! I loooveee Jakotsu! That character is someone I will forget easily. Suikotsu was also such an interesting character, he has to be my next favorite after Jakotsu. (And I never expected the manga would actually mention multiple personality disorder ((dissociative identity disorder now)) because I don't remember that from the anime! I loved his character and the friendship he formed with Kikyo, even though it was just for a little bit. Also Rumiko Takahashi just knows how to make awesome character designs for villains. Bankotsu was looking a little too attractive, not gonna lie 😂
Also, can I just say that I love the dynamic between Kagome, Inuyasha, and Koga. Like yes it's a love triangle, but their dynamic is funny and light, even though it's still filled with tension. And the fact Koga just let Kagome be with Inuyasha because she was so worried for her safety? He knows he lost in that one 😅 (And I'm also not going to lie, the tension between Inuyasha and Koga is getting a little uhh... fruity 👀 Definitely not complaining tho lol)
And then we go to Miroku and Sango! I love seeing the two of them on the mission together. Miroku using the Wind Tunnel for Sango even though it will kill him? Perfection.
I loved seeing Sesshomaru fight so hard to protect Rin. Also Sango and Miroku's interactions when they were protecting each other in the tunnel/cave melted my heart. He called her the woman that he loves 🥺🥺🥺 That pervert is in love🤧🤧🤧
I'm curious to see if the Band of Seven will eventually turn on each other, especially since Bankotsu keeps trying to hoard all of the shikon jewel shards and the other one wants them for himself to defeat Bankotsu.
I feel sad for the one in the Band of Seven that repressed his previous personality and used to be a kind doctor. I'm sad that he had to die to make sure he hurt no one else. I want Kikyo to play a bigger role in defeating/finding Naraku

I adore the Band of Seven arc. Aside from the beginning (season 1 of the anime), it's the most nostalgic to me. That's why this gets 4 stars instead of 3.
There's some weird consistency stuff in this volume, such as characters being misgendered and translated terms changing ("Tessaiga" becomes "Tetsusaiga," "Scar of the Wind" becomes "Wind Scar," etc.). While I don't mind the more localized versions of the terms (they're the versions I grew up with, after all), the lack of consistency bothers me.
It’s frustrating how the band of seven, which we met in the previous installment, consumes the entirety of this one, and will be continuing into the next. On the flip side, it’s neat because rather than many issues/demons being fought over and over, it’s a nice ongoing storyline that ties in even all the secondary characters. Best part was when Inuyasha believed Kagome to be dead. His reaction is UGH perfection!
I'm enjoying this arc for the most part, and that Sango and Miroku moment? Had me liking Miroku a little more. Sesshomaru is the best ever, and the Koga, Inuyasha, and Kagome moments were also great. The Band of Seven does feel a little drawn out, but I do like a lot of the moments that have come from them.
5 STARS! I read Inuyasha Vol 9 for: Reading Rivalry - a graphic novel - because it’s a manga.
Popsugar 2022 - A book about the afterlife - the villains are from the afterlife brought BACK to life!
I LOVED this volume! We got to see the character’s bonds tested as well as my favourite set of villains, The Band Of Seven! Rin, Sesshomaru and Jaken were present too, as was of course Kagome and Inuyasha! My favourite of the Band Of Seven is Jyakotsu, followed by the Doctor, Suikotsu. They’re the most entertaining to read about for me, and they battle Sesshomaru, Rin and Jaken! Who wins? You’ll need to read to find out for yourself!

I loved seeing Teams Inuyasha, Koga. Sesshomaru, and Kikyo unknowingly work together on attempting to find Naraku and defeat the Band of Seven. BTW - Sesshomaru is a bad ass.
