Once upon a time, in a land not so far away, back before computers, before email, before the internet–Imagine that!–a book junkie was born. That was me.

Fast forward three decades to a soft spring day in 1997, and find me contentedly reading my eleventy-thousandth romance novel. Sighing, I closed the book and say, “I can do that.”

Voilà! A writer was born!

Don’t worry, I’m not going to walk you through the intervening years day by day, project by project, rejection by rejection. A journey like that would involve far more wailing and gnashing of teeth than even I, with my flare for drama, could stand.

What I will do, is tell you that over the years I have written a little of everything including: a novel-length contemporary romance, two screenplays,

dozens of flash fictions and prose poems, short stories of varying lengths, novellas and most recently gay erotic romance.

Gustave Flaubert said, “Be regular and orderly in your life, so that you may be violent and original in your work.”

And I do. I live in a three-story Victorian with my husband, three cats and a yellow lab named Oliver. Most days I write (at least a little) and read quite a lot.

As to whether my work is violently original … achieving that goal may take the rest of my regular and orderly life.

This story screams "ADORABLE" to me from the first chapter to the ending. That is mainly because of the two young MCs.

Oliver (or "Ollie") is adorable in a way that he deals with his "confusion". He is attracted to Drew, the sexy guy who owns a rental bike show. But at the same time, he also feels attracted to this glamorous drag queen, Faith, who performs at a bar, and gave him a lovely kiss. Since Ollie don't know that Drew and Faith are one and the same, his being confused is adorable. Ollie KNOWS he is gay, even if he never really seals the deal (yes, Ollie is a 22 year-old virgin) but he wonders why he also attracted to a "girl".

Drew is adorable for me due to his inside monologue, whenever he is in the same vicinity with Ollie. It is quite entertaining! Drew splits his life to "Drew" the guy and "Faith" the drag queen. I don't know that kind of life, of course, how one deals with an alter ego, but I find it intriguing. I love how tender Drew when he is with Ollie, especially after Ollie tells Drew that he is still a virgin -- that Drew is willing to help Ollie through it.

The ending is sweet ... and the best thing is that they both are still young, so it has that sense of innocence and hopeful into it. Definitely a charmer.

I enjoyed this book. It was both fun and sweet -- and very short.

The blurb makes the book seem more than it is. At heart, it's a simple story: Oliver is on a working vacation. He meets Drew and Drew's alter-ego, Faith. Oliver is attracted to both.

The shortness of the book worked against it as a whole. There wasn't enough time spent exploring any of the emotions that were exposed. The plotting could have been expanded as well. There wasn't much to it.

Overall I really enjoyed the read. I look forward to more books by Gardner.

Ollie has broken up with his boyfriend but decides to go on their Key West post-graduation trip anyway. One night he ends up in a drag bar and is fascinated by Faith which he finds odd since he's never gotten into guys who dress as girls. He meets Drew, the local hottie who rents bike and they make plans to go out. Little does he know, Drew is Faith and Drew is afraid to reveal the truth, and to top it off, Ollie's ex shows up thinking everything is fine. Imagine a great many misunderstandings ensue, however Ollie decides he finally wants to have sex with Drew (why his ex and him broke up) and I did love it when Ollie went off on his ex and tossed his stuff out into the hallway because the guy refused to move out of their room. I was cheering for him. Just when Drew gets his big chance to actually sing and not lip synch at one of his bosses clubs in Vegas, Ollie reveals he got a job working at a hotel in the Keys. Ooops. Now what. Drew is a drag queen, not a cross-dresser. He doesn't dress like a woman outside of work, so it's a bit different than some other stories and it was interesting to watch Ollie's confusion of how he could be attracted to a "girl" and be gay. A cute story with a feel for the Keys.

Oh, the potential. It started out with so much! Then it started to feel kinda creepy to me. Ollie chasing Faith when he has a date with Drew, not telling Drew about the ex and letting the ex walk all over him. Then Drew keeping his own secrets. It just wasn't developed enough and the big climax was anything but climactic. Totally flat.

I love stories with drag queens in them and Drew made a hot one as Faith. He was also very sweet with the sometimes shy Ollie. It was a cute story and they made a nice couple (Ollie was able to have the best of both worlds with Drew/Faith) but it could have used a bit more conflict.

Actually quite a good one. I was a little leery about it because of its blurb, but it was sweet (albeit stupidly illogical at times). I rather liked the characters and the way everything was worked.

This book was a little twisted to be honest. It started off perfectively and everything appeared a little monotonous but I was enjoying the journey till monotonicity turned into redundancy and all hell broke lose, the story stopped making sense and I barely made my way to the ending part. I have never put down a book midway but this one was challenging, at last, I succeeded in keeping my streak alive.

A review for The Romance Reviews.

he sweet and adorable characters, great plot and lovely HEA made DRESSED TO THRILL a highly enjoyable read.

Oliver--or Ollie as his friends call him--is in Key West, alone, on Spring Break because his cheating boyfriend and he broke up before the trip. He wanders into a drag bar where he sees a very attractive drag queen. He is uncomfortable with his attraction to her because he knows he's gay...he doesn't like women, but the attraction is there. He just doesn't know what to do with it.

Soon after meeting Faith, the drag queen, he meets up with Drew, a local hottie who is as hot for Ollie as Ollie is for Drew. They decide to hook up, but Drew has a secret: he is also Faith, the drag queen. He's afraid to tell Ollie because he's been there done that with getting rejected because of his performing. Little does Drew know that Ollie's got some secrets too. And as the two become closer, both of their secrets become harder to share. Eventually, everything comes out, and they will have to decide if they can work past it or end the relationship that is just beginning.

This little novella was very cute. The main characters stole my heart. I don't usually read stories with characters so young, but I just loved Drew and Ollie. They were adorable in their relationship with other. I think being so young, neither one of them were truly comfortable in their skins, so they were both scared to be up front about their feelings and issues. Both of them had their confidence diminished by past lovers, so they didn't want to chance getting hurt again.

There were also a myriad of colorful secondary characters that rounded out the story. Between ex-boyfriends, co-workers and sleazy bosses, it was no wonder Drew and Ollie had some problems with figuring out their relationship.

The relationship between the characters was a bit rushed, but honestly it didn't put me off one bit. They were so adorable together that you really couldn't help but root for them as a couple.

I also thought the plot was fantastic. I haven't read any stories about drag queens before, and I really liked reading about the world of these female impersonators. Drew separated Faith and himself like they were two separate people, and that intrigued me.

DRESSED TO THRILL is a sweet story with great characters, a lovely romance, and an intriguing plot. I was so in enamored with Drew and Ollie I was really sad to see it end.

Ugh. It began nicely enough. Well, at least it was tolerable.

I could forgive the somewhat repetitive phrasing, since while the writing wasn’t stellar, I found myself amused by Oliver’s rather unique problem. Okay, maybe not unique but one I encounter very rarely in books like these. For a gay guy to worry he might not be gay after all (based on fairly unsubstantiated evidence, I might add) is much funnier than the reverse (and more common) situation.

The thing is? My amusement deflated fast and by the end I felt more irritated than anything else, which of course made the repetitions grate more.

I simply did not care for the secrets between those two. Of course they provide plot but… lies make me uncomfortable; unnecessary lies annoy me. So when the situation blew up? It left me cold.

*sigh* In the end, when they do confess things, explanations are just taken as is; not a single quibble. Everyone is instantly forgiven, accepted and moving in with each other. Insta-love. So what the f*** was all that upset about, anyway? Gah.

Lotsa issues with the drag, too. Don’t they have to bind their bits away so the dress will flow smoothly? Besides that, I don’t buy that Oliver never even detected a likeness between Faith and Drew. I could see that happen if he only ever saw Faith in the limelight from a bit away, or while he did not really know Drew yet. Later that just doesn’t fly for me.

I give up.

I had some other books by this author lined up to read soon, but for now I’ve lost interest. Sure, maybe this was an accident, but I just don’t want to risk another set of protagonists whose motivations and decisions make little sense to me.

Dressed to Thrill by Kimberly Gardner is a quick read that is light-hearted, fun and super sexy.

While on Spring Break in Key West, Oliver meets Drew and his alter ego who just happens to be a glamorous and vampish drag queen named Faith. Attracted to both, he is unaware that Drew and Faith are one and the same person. And Oliver is just a little confused by how he, a gay man, can be lusting after a “woman”.

Drew is a talented singer who loves performing on stage. He runs the family business by day and in the evenings he transforms himself into the sexy and supremely confident Faith. When his emotions become involved, Drew finds it difficult to keep night job a secret from Oliver. But Oliver is keeping a few secrets of his own.

Dressed to Thrill is a fairly uncomplicated and cute story. Oliver and Drew’s relationship has an air of innocence which is due, in part, to Oliver’s wide-eyed wonder at his new experiences in Key West. Their romance is sweet and relatively conflict free. Their sex scenes are sizzling hot yet filled with emotion.

For a short vacation from everyday life, I highly recommend Dressed to Thrill by Kimberly Gardner. This feel good and humorous novella will transport you to Key West as you join Olivier and Drew on their romantic and passionate journey to happily ever after.

synopsis:
oliver has just been dumped before a planned spring break vacation to the florida keys. he decides to go alone and is sitting in the bar the first night when he sees a female impersonator and is attracted to her. he has a problem with this, because he is gay, and wonders if this means he might be straight. the next day, oliver heads to a bike rental shop and meets drew, who he is instantly attracted to. they make plans for later that night, but oliver still goes to see the performer again. drew doesn't tell oliver that he is the female impersonator because his last boyfriend had a problem with it. the next day, his ex turns up and drew needs to find a new place to stay, since he forgot to take the ex's name of it. he and drew go camping, and when they head back in the next day, the ex is there and drew thinks oliver is still dating someone. then drew is offered the chance of a lifetime, headlining a show in vegas. oliver has a job at a resort in the keys when he graduates, so drew has some decisions to make.

what i liked: even though the story was short, the characters were both fleshed out and believable. that there were insecurities on both sides, because they had only known each other for a couple of days.

what i didn't like: the insta love. moving in together after knowing each other for less than a week? not so believable.

Ollie is a wonderful young man coming off of a painful breakup who finds himself oddly attracted to a drag queen, but who chooses the safer more traditional relationship with the cute guy from the bike rental shop. It takes a while for him to realize they are the same person and even longer for Drew to realise Ollie is definitely okay with Faith, but that humour is a large part of what makes the story work.

Both young men are fantastic characters and there is definitely some real chemistry between them. Both are young with all the insecurities and uncertainties that brings, but it works for the story. Slightly comic but mostly touching, their discovery of each other’s secrets is handled perfectly.

This is a light hearted story, more cute than sexy, but definitely fun. It’s well-written, sympathetic to both characters, and really plays with the confused expectations when gender doesn’t seem to match sexuality. I wish it had been longer, but that’s really my only complaint.

This is such a sweet, feel good story. I really liked both Ollie and Drew. Though the characters were not developed as fully as they could have been, what I did know about them I so fully enjoyed.

The story line is simple but very enjoyable. Ollie goes to a bar and finds himself attracted to a drag queen by the name of Faith. Ollie has never been into feminine looking men or men who dress like women but there is a first time for everything thing.
Drew/Faith rents a bike to Ollie and sparks fly. The hottie Drew IS the kind of sexy man Ollie is attracted to and they quickly set up a date. As much as Ollie likes Drew, he can't stop thinking about Faith. This is a sweet love story and lucky for Ollie he gets the man and the girl of his dreams :)

If you like sweet, feel good stories than this book is for you!!

Nice short story for one read.

I missed a bit more depth and insight, got a bit confused because in the beginning it sounded more like Drew did the Drag out of neccessity, later it was more portrayed as his "second" persona.

Attraction etc. was nice written, ex-boyfried conflict was very predictable.

MCs were both likeable and sweet.

A very entertaining, fun story with unique and interesting characters. I was not in the mood for anything too angst-heavy and, sometimes books on cross-dressers tend to dwell on guilt/hate and that overshadows the love story, but it was just part of who the character(s) were, so it worked really well and balanced with the whole story.

The characters were adorable, but the big conflict that everything was leading up to got wrapped up in like half a page. It just seemed like the book ended very abruptly. I would have liked to see it drawn out more.

I absolutely adored this story! I'm a big fan of drag stories, and I really, really enjoyed this one. I liked the characters, especially Ollie and his confusion over his attraction to Faith, Drew's drag persona. Highly recommended to those who also like drag stories with sweet romance.

Oliver's inability to spot that Drew was also Faith was a little unrealistic. Having the same facial features you would think would be an indication that your summer fling and the drag queen you are drawn to are one in the same person. Oliver was either totally clueless or needed an eye test.

It was a little short and could have been more developed. It feels like a short story only, not a book.

It was well written, no complains come to my mind now.
