He spies her on the beach in the Florida Keys-a stunning stranger in a low-backed white dress. They toast to the New Year and share an unforgettable midnight kiss. Then Griff Campbell proposes….Arden Burke doesn't want a husband. Forced to give up her concert career, the world-renowned violinist has her devoted rescue dog, Igor, for company. But what she'd really like is a child. All she has to do is accompany Griff back home and be his fiancée for a few weeks. In return, the small-town Georgia vet will give Arden the baby she wants. It may not be the love match of the year, but they'll both get what they need, right? That's not how Griff sees it. What started out as a temporary solution to soothe his male pride is turning into a real future. One that includes Arden, her dog and their soon-to-be baby!
Once a world famous violinist, Arden Burke has now settled on a remote island by herself. Losing her career due to pending hearing loss, finding her fiancee with her mother, and losing her baby has caused her to sink far away from mankind.
Its on New Year's Eve that she meets a trespassing and slightly drunk Griff Cambell that her life changes forever. Just as the new year hits and they shared an explosive kiss, Griff lets out a proposal wanting her to marry him. Not really marry him, he assures, just pretend to so his family and small town won't pity him when he returns home after his fiancee left him for his best friend a week before their wedding. At first refusing, Arden then stakes her payment; she requires a baby. After agreeing, although believing he won't remember a word in the morning, she helps Griff to her sofa where he instantly falls asleep.
Upon both wakening, Arden learns not only does her dog Igor not like Griff, but that Griff does indeed remember the night before and still wants her to go along with his proposal plan.
During the trip to Georgia, Griff gets a glimpse into the world of secrets Arden refuses to reveal about herself. Through their time home with his family, both he and Arden are subjected to many questions by the family.
What's more is Griff begins thinking of the possibility of Arden getting pregnant? Could he really allow his baby to grow up without him in the picture? What about his family, who would love his child? Beyond that is his feelings growing for the woman who he wasn't suppose to fall for.
It's during one of the multiple parties for the couple to be, that Arden's secret is revealed when she is noticed. Requested to play, Arden feels the room with beautiful music.
Anger over her not trusting him with her past, their relationship takes a hit and the following days are silent and awkward.
The final straw breaks when Griff finds birth control products in Arden's things. Confronting her about all her lies and secrets brings the end to their arrangement and Arden makes her way back to Florida.
Months later, Griff and Arden correspond through letters and she and her mother are working their way towards forgiveness, but an empty spot still plagues her heart.
Receiving her letter to visit, Griff finds Arden on the beach with Igor. Both asking for forgiveness, they now welcome an open relationship with the other....with a baby on the way.
The hero Griff and the heroine Arden meet on New Years Eve on a private beach. Griff is coming to terms with the fact that he has to return home and face his demons after leaving town for six months after his fiancée left him for his best friend. He feels an immediate pull towards Arden and impulsively asks her to return home with him and act as his new partner to help ease the blow of his return. Arden is surprised by Griff's request and she declines, but realises that her lonely existence needs to stop and changes her mind on the condition that Griff tries to help her have the baby she so desperately wants. Arden is also struggling to come to terms with recent events in her life and finds that she enjoys being involved in Griff's big family and especially enjoys being with Griff. There is no shortage of desire between them, and it's not long before their feelings for one another become deeper even though it's only a temporary arrangement.
I didn't really know what to expect from this book, the blurb is a little too cheesy, but I found it really entertaining. The heroine's health issues are dealt with well by the author, with sensitivity and without too much self pity from the heroine. Griff is just a brilliant hero, so tender and honest yet also very alpha. The passion between the two of them is sizzling and their relationship develops naturally, which is very satisfying to read.
The plot is well thought out and original, with two very relatable characters, and a nice love story - the ending is especially wonderful!
Just what I needed for a gentle read while dealing with a bout with the fu. Sometimes I just like a book that I dont have to worry about too much. Perfect
The premise of this story is CORNY!!! Griff meets Arden on a Florida beach on New Years and kisses her and proposes at first sight. He needs a faux fiancee to take back home to his family in Georgia. And to attend his ex fiancees wedding with him. She accepts because she wants something from him in return...A baby!...BUT, I can overlook the CORNY premise because I liked the characters of Griff and Arden. Aside from Arden's constant secret keeping. I ALSO LOVED Griff's BIG, meddling Southern family! And Arden's instant friendship with Griff's sister's. Lynette did a good job of making these characters seem real. Despite the CORNY premise. Which I think is why it works. Even Arden's dog Igor had a back story (he was abused by a man, before Arden got him at the shelter. Which is why he he DID NOT like Griff, the vet....A really, cute story. Enjoyable, easy read. :-)
The beginning of A Convenient Proposal draws you in and you wonder how such a fast and totally breathtaking wedding proposal could make you sigh with the romance of it all. Right from the start, Griff and Arden are fated to be together but it takes a while to get them there.
I liked meeting Griff's family and travelling around his hometown. I loved the confrontation with the ex-fiancee, Zelda, who is getting married to Griff's former best friend, Al, and the fact that everyone was more affected by Arden's appearance than she or Griff thought they would be. So satifying!
A sweet romance, health and career resolutions, a saved pet, and great locales make A Convenient Proposal an excellent HAmRom read. Looking forward to Lynnette Kent's next story!
