What happens when swagger jackin becomes deadly? Dominique Lewis spent most of her days as a high maintenance wanna-be. Although she had the perfect physique and facial features, she studied the charming behaviors of women who successfully landed pro-athletes, and mimicked the money-hungry ladies who were able to get into the pockets of hustlers. Her life-long dream was to become wealthy, and a house-hold name. By any means necessary, she vowed to get what she wanted. As Dominique s mission unfolds, she manages to only rub elbows with the elite, and those who could get her to the top. Soon, after the tragic murder of her sister, all hell breaks loose, and Dominique s cover is blown. Armed with revenge on the brain, and a status goal in mind, she lands a position as Rapheal s woman, the most sought after millionaire Atlanta has to offer. Raphael s lavish status in town puts her on a new level, right where she always dreamed. It was all about money, sex, and power. There was only one problem; Rapheal had always been faithful to his former girlfriend, and had especially been off limits to Dominique. Unfortunately for, Dominique all rules remained the same. In an effort, to hold on to Rapheal, and all the elaborate material possessions, Dominique sets out on a deadly mission to remove anything that stands in her way.

I took a chance on Carbon Copy after learning that the author was an African American writer who once taught in PG County public schools in Maryland - where I’m from. I’ve read a few other books published by Life Changing Books and they were fairly decent, however, I really did not like this novel. The authors characters were typical of street lit novels, but the plot was boring. I understand that street novellas typically have one devilish female character and a man equally as heinous in his actions; however, in order to write a fairly decent story, you have to have a balance between characters - there must be at least one character who is relatable where the others are not, sensitive where the other characters are insensitive, understanding, likable. For whatever reason Azarel decided to re-write storytelling and chose not to include this necessary balance in Carbon Copy. The main character Dominique, a bad, jealous, hateful woman is as frustrating a character as her twin sister, Monique, who is supposed to be good, reasonable, and the character with whom the reader identifies. On the other hand, the novel is full of grammatical errors and Azarel does not successfully switch voices between characters, despite having each chapter in the novel be a glimpse into one of the characters’ lives. Raphael’s voice is very similar to Dominique’s. And while Monique is supposed to be the “classy” female character, she turns out to be ghetto trash, just like her uncultured sister.

Moreover, I find it so frustrating when street lit authors take it upon themselves to provide readers with a family analysis to explicate why certain characters are so evil - instead of elaborating and exposing family dysfunction in African American families, the authors seem to take advantage of true mental and social concerns that negatively affect real people, using them to sell a good story.

This is my first time reading anything by this author and I have to say she did a great job. This book keeps me opening to reading her other books. Great job.

Action all thoughout this book and that is a A plus to me.
Dominique whats everything that her sister wants and sometimes more then what her sister her twin sister have.
Monique is the good twin the twin everyone likes the most including there own mom.

Dominique goes though everything to get what her sister has including her sister man Rapheal.

But, Dominique settles for seconds with a guy name Yuri that is a bad guy that is into way to much if you ask me. He get Dominique hooked to his drama that causes her to do the unthinkable to get what she wants.

Dominique mother Rudy starts to figure out about her daughter during and set to get the answers she is looking for.

In the meantime Dominique pushes up on Raphael by any means. She don't want no one in the picture to enter fear in her getting her man that she is so in love with. But, he don't want anything to do with her.

Book was written well. Kept me wanting to read more about crazy Dominique.

There were a lot of typos which was annoying. I really disliked the character Dominique. She was psycho. I did not care for the ending. I was left with questions so I'm assuming there will be some sort of sequel.

This book was very good. That Dominique is something else. Family means nothing to her when she is going after something she wants. Can't wait to read more from this author.

Carbon Copy was one of the best books I've read in a long time. If you like family drama then this is the kind of book is a must read.
Twins Dominique and Monique grew up together they both had the same opportunities in life. From Dominique point of view Monique got just a tab bit more attention from the family then she did. when really it wasn't Dom just always stayed in trouble , fights bringing home bad grade everything while Moe did all the good things good grades respectful so of course she got treated more for good deeds. that's not the way Dom SEEN IT THO.She wanted to be just like Mo. they already looked alike but she wanted more. Mainly her husband she kept trying till she get what she always dreamed of.Raphael was Mo husband there having a baby together an Dom is so jealous so she starts to come up with a plan to kill her sister take her baby an get Raphael to marry her. <3

With the title and concept, would appear as a blockbuster read...for me it had some minor typographical errors (4) and was not her best-read for me. I enjoyed Bruised 1, 2 a few years ago and have two copies I got on sale at a bookstore.

2/3 stars.

This book was such a slow read for me. I read her other books and they were fabulous but the plot on this book just didn't seem that interesting to me it was a bit predictable. It only started to peak my interest at the very end.
