One Halloween night, Megan Jackson stays late at work. As she closes down the realtor office, she sees what she believes is a murder of a young girl by a man whose face she can’t see. For a split-second, the alleged murderer turns toward her office and Megan believes she’s been seen. Moments later, she hears someone arriving and she runs – possibly for her life. When she calls the police, they brush off her concerns; after all, there’s no body and no other witnesses.
Fearful, she then calls her ex-boyfriend, Will McCoy, a man she still loves despite the break-up six years prior. What unfolds throughout the story is a mix of thrilling suspense – packed with chases and underhanded dealings, controversial memories – Megan is the child of a black mother and a white father who left and Will is from a prominent white family, and connections between two people who are more confused about the situation than anything.
Wynter Daniels writes eloquently and descriptively, which is always a welcome read, especially in those catered to the sexier adult moments of life. The plot is decent and its execution is simple. There are no real mysteries regarding the characters after a few chapters, only niggling thoughts regarding them, some of which include whether or not Megan will ever make up her mind about Will when it’s obvious she wants him more than anything.
I don’t have many problems with this book though I wasn’t entirely blown away by the story itself. What did bother me, however, were what I felt were unnecessary glimpses into the lives of the secondary characters. While I think some scenes were important to understand the psyches of the characters, it sometimes felt overdone and extraneous within the books. At times, I wasn’t sure why I needed to read particular scenes; it almost felt like the author felt the need to throw in another sexual scene to reach a quota.
However, other than that, I would recommend PROTECTIVE CUSTODY to anyone who enjoys erotica with a touch of thrilling chase. There are certain scenes and conversations that lend themselves to the idea of racism but it shouldn’t deter people from the book. Everything is written with care and in a way that the ideas are the result of times past. I don’t think it’s one of the best pieces of erotica out there (mostly due to the excess scenes) but I do enjoy that the plot includes something other than the building romance and manages to stay important throughout the length of the book. Many erotic works fall short with their focus only on sex but Daniels manages to give readers steamy scenes with a story that is both interesting and gripping.
PROTECTIVE CUSTODY has a do it or die feel – things are always seemingly precarious with the result wobbling between two choices. Just like the main characters, readers should jump in with both feet.
A spicy read with a lot of focus on the spice. But there is still a story told and it was pretty good. Megan witnesses a murder which the police don't believe because it's Halloween and there is no body. So she calls her ex-boyfriend, Will, who rushes over to protect her. Megan is black and Will is white and while neither of them cared, their families are another matter. I would have liked to see a little more focus on the relationship development but it was good and flowed nicely.
While closing down her office after a late client meeting, Meagan witnesses a murder across the street. When the police won't believe her she calls on her ex boyfriend, Will. He is former cop turned private eye and the man who's heart she broke.
The suspense and intrigue make the sexual tension between these two super hot. Great story, super sexy scenes. One of my favorite Wynter Daniels books.

Protective Custody is a very exhilarating adult fiction. I like how the fact the mystery that's engulfing the female character serves to not only bring more tension in the story, but also to serve as a form of exhilaration.
Protective Custody starts off with the main female character witnessing a murder and nobody seems to believe what she had said. She then calls up her ex for protection and things started to get much, much better.
I enjoyed reading this story very much. Despite of it being an adult fiction; an erotica, it's not trashy at all. If only all other erotica are like this, I believe the believe the genre would not be marked as trashy.
I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I received an ARC of this book from Carina Press via Netgalley. I was not compensated in any ways for writing this review.
A romantic read from Carina Press that will warm your heart and massage your libido, while keeping your interest with the tense action resulting from Megan seeing the man who killed a woman in an empty building across from her real estate office. That she didn't see his face was beside the point. She was marked for death, and she called upon her former lover to protect her. She had broken up with him in a way that hurt so terribly, for reasons she really didn't fully disclose, and his love for her had never waned. It is an interracial romance and is filled with warm and caring loving. There are also some twists and turns that are surprising and keep the reader's interest from start to finish. There is a point at which I am just a little irritated with Megan--when can she stand on her own two feet and be willing to go up against the prejudice of her family and that of her lover's? That, of course, is the core question that drives their relationship. Just a really nice read.
Definitely a fun, flirty erotic mystery! Wynter Daniels provided the right balance between suspenseful mystery and lustful naughtiness.
This was a very quick read that I didn’t want to put down. Both because I wanted to find out what would happen next between Will and Megan, but also because I wanted to find out how the whole murder situation was going to play out.
So if you like mysteries with adult situations added to spice them up, then you will love this one.
In conjunction with the Wakela's World Disclosure Statement, I received a product in order to enable my review. No other compensation has been received. My statements are an honest account of my experience with the brand. The opinions stated here are mine alone.
Loved this book, though there were elements of the plot that bothered me (i.e. the cliched "we don't want you in our family because you're too brown" issues his family had with their relationship and the "I don't like you because her white daddy ran off after getting her mother pregnant" issues that her grandmother had about him). However, overall the book was great. It was definitely not something that I've read before and the twist about 75% of the way through killed me.
I didn't want it to happen, but I knew it was coming. I actually liked the character and was sad when his end came the way that it did.
Ms. Daniels infused the perfect amount of suspense and "heat" in this novel to keep both my need for romance and danger equally fulfilled. What I found as a delightful surprise was the storyline of the secondary characters. That sub plot kept me as riveted as the primary tale. I also identified with the character, Megan, who toiled between her feelings for Will and her loyalty to her grandmother. A well-written story that I would recommend.
Wonderful romantic suspenseful book! Every time I thought I had it figured out....BOOM....a twist/turn was thrown at me! I loved it! Add some hot romance and you have the total package. An awesome book I recommend you read!
Megan Jackson, is a successful business woman who witnesses a murder on Halloween. The murderer saw her watching him and knows she has witnessed it. The police find no body or evidence so they assume it was a Halloween prank. The murderer is now terrorizing her, so she turns to the only person she trusts. Her ex-boyfriend Will McCoy, who she is still in love with, and who is an ex-cop and now works for a Security firm. Since they are an interracial couple, there was disapproval from both families (Will didn't know his mother told Megan the relationship wouldn't work, and so did Megan's grandmother who raised her, and that she should leave Will. Megan broke up the relationship.
Will McCoy is still in love with Megan and believes her about the murder. He agrees to help her. Between the two of them will they find the answers to the murder and find out who the murderer is? Against all odds will their rekindled romance survive this time? There's hot steamy sex, action and plot twists that keep you guessing. A great story and has you engrossed from the beginning to the end. A must read and I'm so glad I did.
This was an excellent read full of passion, mystery, intrigue and overall sizzle. Megan and Will are a great couple. This read is well told with well-developed characters that are easy to relate to. I really became involved in the character interaction and once I started reading, couldn't put it down. I was up all night trying to finish this read. There were hot scenes, a very strong plot and the chemistry was off the charts. I highly recommend this book and any book by her.
Wynter Daniels has a unique writing style that includes books with awesome plot twists and compelling stories. A am a huge fan of the author and know that you would feel the same after reading her work.
Warning: This is a read for a cold winter night!!! The writing and chemistry in Protective Custody will have readers blazing with carnal need!!! If read during the hot summer months, this book could result in readers spontaneously combusting!!!!
It's Halloween and Megan just finished a long day at work. Eager to leave her office, grab a bite to eat and head home, she begins to close up shop for the night. As she reaches for her office window blinds, she catches sight of a brutal murder. She stands in frozen shock until she hears heavy footfalls entering her office. Jump started into action, Megan flees her office and escapes into the night...
As soon as she's able, she phones the police to report the crime. The police dutifully answer the call, but can find no evidence that a crime was committed: no body, no forced entry, no witnesses other than Megan. Ultimately, her claims are dismissed and Megan finds herself alone and scared with a feeling that this nightmare is far from over.
In her desperate time, Megan reaches out to Will, her ex-boyfriend who is happens to be a detective in the sheriff's office. The sparks soon fly and both Megan and WIll try everything to keep one another safe - safe from the murderer and safe from each other. How will it all end? Is there hope for the murderer to be brought to justice? Is there any hope of a future for Will and Megan? You'll just have to read to find out...
The absolute gem of this book? The prose. Ms. Daniels has a superb gift for words; her carefully crafted selections pump life into the lyrics! I cannot bring justice to the beautiful verses on my own, so I here are a few delectable excerpts: "A sickening chill slithered down her spine" "The area was as silent as a secret." "Memories climbed into the cab and settled in." "His every touch felt warmer than the sun's kiss." "A tsunami of yearning flooded her veins."
Overall - three and a half stars.
My scoring for Protective Custody: Story line/Plot - 3 stars Action - 3 stars Writing/Prose - 5 stars Chemistry between Megan and Will - 4 stars The sex/love scenes - 5 stars between Megan and Will, 3 stars for secondary characters Secondary or supporting characters (and their sub or side stories) - 2 stars
This is a fast paced story of mystery and erotic romance. When Megan sees something she shouldn't have while at her job and then she is chased because she herself was seen, she hates to do it, but she's scared so she calls the man she can't forget. Will McCoy..... The man she had to give up six months ago. The last time they were together, it was love. This time it's Murder!! It's a very example of how lives can be ruined by the snobbery and by prejudices. Fortunately, Love can conquer a lot of things, that is of course Will can keep Megan alive !!! This killer just doesn't give up. And it's getting so they don't know anymore who can be trusted. Had my attention from start to finish with the non stop action of crime or the hot romance all the way through. EXCELLENT READ!. ....But then, Wynter Daniels defiantly knows how to pull in and hold on to the reader!!
I read this book last year, but failed to leave my review. “Protected Custody” is a Suspenseful, Sexy, and Enjoyable Read. Megan and Will’s story is breathtaking. I love the fact that Megan and Will are Ex’s that find themselves overwhelmed by passion and love. Another great read from Wynter Daniels.
When Megan Jackson witnessed a brutal crime through her office window, she called the police. When no body and no evidence of the crime are found, the police question the truth of her claims and write her off as a nut. Devastated over their lack of trust and scared for her safety, Megan calls the only person she can trust, Will McCoy.
Will McCoy is still heartbroken over his breakup with Megan Jackson. No longer a cop, he now works for a private detective agency. When Megan requests his help, he jumps at the opportunity, hoping for a second chance with Megan.
When the killer ups the stakes, Megan and Will are forced into hiding where their mutual desire and passion re-ignite hotter than ever. Can Will keep Megan alive long enough to give them a second chance?
Protective Custody by Wynter Daniels is an action packed interracial romantic suspense dealing with issues of family, race, and illegal immigrants being used as sexual slaves. The pace of the story moves briskly and the dialogue is sharp. While there isn’t much of a mystery—we learn the identity of the killer early in the story—the twists and turns in the plot did keep the story interesting.
Megan Jackson is a young, beautiful African American woman, who’s in the habit of working long hours in the office. Looking out her office window one night, she witnesses a young woman being strangled in an empty office building across the road. When the police arrive to investigate but can’t find a body, they assume Megan has either been drinking or is possibly crazy. Annoyed with the police and terrified when the killer begins to make threats on the phone, Megan realizes there’s only one person she can trust—Will McCoy, a local cop and her ex-boyfriend. I had issues with Megan’s character; she’s very conflicted about what she wants. She didn’t want to break up with Will but gave into pressure from her grandmother and Will’s mother; they convinced her that an interracial relationship would never work. Now six months later, she’s still misses Will but has never been honest with him about their breakup. Being a witness to a murder gives Megan a chance to confront her feelings about Will, but once again, she’s conflicted about what she wants.
Will McCoy is a tall, handsome ex-cop with emotional issues. Quitting his job in the sheriff’s department over an accidental shooting, Will has gone to work as a private detective. He’s never understood why Megan broke up with him and hasn’t been able to get over their breakup. It doesn’t help that his boss, Ed, has a toxic attitude towards women—he’s constantly warning Will not to become “whipped”. When Megan needs his help, Will jumps at the chance; he not only wants to protect her, he’s hoping she’ll give him a second chance and surrender to their attraction, which has never gone away. I had issues with Will’s character too; he’s suffering from guilt over an accidental shooting in which he was cleared of any wrongdoing and he refuses to get help. Instead he quit a job he loved. He also never confronted Megan about why she dumped him; it was as if he was afraid or unwilling to get to the truth. And he did act somewhat “whipped”—and not just with Megan. He never confronted Ed about his relationship issues and unwanted advice. When Will gets a second chance with Megan, he still doesn’t confront her about their failed relationship.
The scenes between Megan and Will are full of action and sexual tension; they have lots of very hot sex but neither one is willing to confront the elephant in the room—their breakup. They both make some bad decisions in regards to Megan’s safety which in at least two instances result in Megan getting hurt. Luckily though, Will shows up in time to save her from death. When they finally leave town, only one person knows where they’ve gone and unfortunately, that person proves to be untrustworthy.
The secondary characters in the book were well developed; from the slimy villain, who’s really creepy and is involved with the human trafficking, to Ed, Will’s boss, whose marriage to a young stripper proves to be a catalyst in the last half of the story. While Megan’s grandmother is well developed, I had issues with her refusal to give Will a chance—because he came from a rich family and was white, she automatically assumed he would treat her granddaughter badly and pressured Megan to dump him regardless of how Megan felt. Will’s mother doesn’t come off much better; she doesn’t think Megan will be able to be a “socially acceptable” wife because she grew up poor and she pressures her to dump her son.
The end of the story is full of twists and turns—Megan and Will are betrayed by a person he trusts and Megan almost pays the ultimate price. Both Megan and Will have to make some serious decisions about what they want in the future but at least this time they face their issues together, and their future looks bright. Overall I enjoyed reading Protective Custody and look forward to reading more of Ms. Wynter’s work.
Megan and Will were happy and in love, until both their families decided to take umbrage with the fact they were a multi-racial couple. Megan was raised by her Grandmother, and dotes on her completely. When her Grandmother decides that Will is nothing more than a spoilt white boy, looking to rough it with her until he finds his true partner in life, she starts to question their future. When Will's Mother corners her in a bathroom and says pretty much the same, with a few added insults directed her way, she breaks up with him.
Fast forward 6 months to Megan at work late at night. Through a window, she witnesses the murder of a young girl in the building next door. The body disappears, and the police are the most unhelpful gits known to man. She turns to the one person that she knows will believe her, Will. Will is now an ex-police officer working as a PI, but he drops everything when Megan calls him and rushes to her side. When the threats start, Will realises that this may be more serious than he original thought, and he has to pull out all the stops to try to prevent the unimaginable happening to her. Whilst he is protecting her, feelings begin to rekindle and the chemistry that was undeniable between them, recombusts. Are the feelings Will have going to interfere with his ability to protect her?
I have mixed feelings towards this book. The best thing about the entire book is the sex scenes. Seriously these are smoking hot scenes, with enough detail to make your palms sweaty, but enough restraint to make sure its not full on porn. There is a whole host of different sex scenes in a whole host of different sex positions, and I enjoyed them all! I also liked Will. He is obvioulsy deeply in love with Megan, at no point does he make an effort to try to deny that he isn't. Megan broke up with him, completely destroyed him without an explanation, but still he runs to her rescue. He left the police force under a cloud, after shooting an innocent man who he believed was a criminal trying to escape. The upshot of this is that he has some doubts over his ability to protect Megan, which bleeds into the decisions he makes in his race to save her. I loved his protectiveness towards her, and the tenderness that he showed towards her, even when she was behaving like a complete bitch.
Now onto the bits I didn't like so much. Number one was Megan herself. She annoyed me because she simply couldn't live her life for herself. All the way through the story, her decisions were influenced by others. She couldn't be with Will because her Gran didn't like him. Instead of saying, "hey I'm a grown woman, take your prejudice elsewhere" she breaks up with the love of her life. She gives up without a fight, and I just can't like a character like that. I know that she had been brought up by the woman and she didn't want to disappoint her, but she is a grown up not a 12 year old. It just didn't buy it. She treated Will awfully. She took everything he gave her, but she gave him barely anything in return, all in the guise of being afraid.
The major problem I had was a little of the side story just didn't flow very well. I am a person who hates cliff hangers, yet there is a few points in this where I didn't find out the outcome of a major event until paragraphs later. I'm too impatient for that! I did like the other characters in the story. They were well written, 3D characters who I truly liked reading about. They weren't paticulary original (e.g. the aging PI with the young stripper wife who is bleeding him dry by using sex to get what she wants) but fun all the same.
This book was OK, but not brilliant. The sex scenes were well thought out, but unfortunately the rest of the plot wasn't to the same standard.
I seem to be on a role these days trying out authors that I have never ever read before. I always give new authors a go because that's the only way that you discover authors who are worth looking out for and along the way you discover reads that you will treasure for the rest of your life.
I picked out Protective Custody from Netgalley because the blurb promises a good romantic suspense of the erotica variety. The story that unfolds is not a complicated one as it is told from the viewpoints of the hero, heroine and the villain as well who finds help from one of the most unexpected sources in the story.
The hero Will McCoy and heroine Megan Jackson have a shared past as in they were head over heels in love with each other until Megan had ended their relationship 6 months back. Will comes from a rich family whose mother is quite snobbish whilst Megan comes from mixed parentage of a white father and black mother. It is Megan's grandmother that sacrifices a lot to bring Megan up and see her through college and Megan is forever grateful and wishes no sadness whatsoever upon her grandma.
Six months after Megan and Will's breakup, Megan witnesses the horrific murder of a woman from the confines of her office on Halloween night which the police do not seem to believe for the lack of evidence that any such crime took place. The first person that Megan thinks of when she is found in this predicament knowing that the killer is out looking for her is her ex-boyfriend Will who comes to her side after just one phone call.
Even though Will knows that he has no self control over his emotions when it comes to the one woman that he loves to the point of obsession, he can't say no to her plea of help and that is how Megan and Will once again find themselves embroiled in the heady passion that had been so much a part of their relationship. Megan constantly reminds herself that what they start up once again cannot be permanent whilst Will doesn't want to give up hope that this time round they can work things out. And as the killer ups the stakes and continues to stalk Megan having the uncanny ability to find out their hideouts, Will knows that this is the one time in life he should not fail the woman who is counting on him.
To be honest I wasn't that wowed with the story that took place. I found both Megan and Will lacking as characters, where Megan grated on my nerves by constantly going back and forth between what she feels for Will and what she feels it is that she must do. Will though serves to be a sexy and protective hero didn't make the cut because he didn't man up and make Megan confront the real issues that were standing between them. Although I didn't overly like Will and Megan I still found this short romantic suspense to be a good read, a book for fans of erotic contemporary romantic suspense.
Gorgeous businesswoman, Megan Jackson witnesses the brutal murder of a young woman on Halloween. Uninterested, the police believe she saw a practical joke rather than a murder. But someone is stalking and terrorizing her, visiting her grandmother in her nursing home, running her car off the road, and making her life a nightmare. She knows she's in danger, but has a hard time accepting that reality. Finally, having no one to turn to who will believe her, she calls her ex-boyfriend, Will.
Will, an ex-cop, is now a private investigator. He assigns himself as Megan's protector. In order to do this, he moves in with Megan to make sure that she is safe. He is the only one who takes the danger seriously. Competent, handsome and sexy, Will can't keep his hands or his mind off Megan. They have a burning, irresistible sexual attraction that neither can deny. Will, still in love, wants her back.
Megan has been in love with Will since she broke off their relationship quite some time ago. Her grandmother, an old fashioned African American woman, won't accept a mixed race relationship for her granddaughter. Because of this and the racially ugly words Will's mother said to her before Megan decided to end their relationship, Megan doesn't believe that their love can last.
Will was unaware of the mean and hurtful things and was heartbroken when Megan left. He does his best to convince her of his love and that he wants a commitment, but Megan can't let go of her fears and the belief that she would only hurt him again.
This story is packed with interesting characters, plenty of action and several prominent plot twists. I also found the descriptions of the criminals and their lives to be tough, gritty and complex, and sometimes a little too uncomfortable for me to read. The bad guys in this story are really bad and ugly. Convincing: yes. Often harsh: also, yes.
The love story is the saving grace to this intensely powerful tale. Ms. Daniels writes a steaming hot romance that is multi-dimensional and satisfying. I recommend this story for those who don't mind graphic and vivid details of sexual abuse and violence, in keeping with the realistic quality of the storytelling.
When Megan Jackson witnesses a man strangling a girl to death in a shop window across from her real-estate agency on Halloween, she immediately calls the police; when there isn’t enough evidence to prove a crime was committed her credibility comes into question. Convinced of what she has witnessed and feeling the killer saw her face; she contacts the only person she feels she can trust, her ex-boyfriend who she had broken up with only 6 months earlier and is also a former cop, Will McCoy.
Will is now working as a Private Investigator so when he receives Megan’s call, he immediately jumps in to help. He doesn’t know why she broke-up with him but is more than willing to offer her his protection and in the process try to rekindle their relationship.
When the killer ups the stakes, Will is forced to take Megan into hiding, bringing them closer together and having to not only work on keeping Megan alive but also face their true feelings. The love and attraction between them is still undeniable, but the negativity from their families and their inter-racial relationship is still a hurdle they need to overcome since it is the reasoning behind their initial break-up, something they need to get past in order to grow as a couple.
The characters seemed to fall flat for me, Megan’s indecisiveness grated on my nerves, she didn’t have the personal strength to stay with her true love because of family prejudices; she gave up too easily and treated Will terribly. I felt he needed more of a back-bone to stand up to her.
I also didn’t think much of the side story, I don’t feel it flowed with the feel of the main plot; resolutions also seemed to come in too late. The mystery and suspense was OK but at times I found it hard to follow,
The smexy scenes were sizzling hot and quite detailed, these two were insatiable.
Protective Custody was a quick and easy read for me, but fell flat in delivery.
I received this book through netgalley for my honest opinion and review.
This is my first Wynter Daniels book. I browsed through netgalley looking for something different a author i wasn't familiar with and Protective custody was one of my choices. How about we get to the blurb.
Wynter Daniels May 9, 2011 Protective Custody
Witness to a murder, but no one will believe her...
Shocked by the brutal crime she witnesses through the window of her small office, Megan Jackson calls the police and is devastated when they question the truth of her story. With no body and no evidence of a crime, she's written off as a nutcase.
Megan suspects the killer saw her face. Terrified, she calls the only person she can trust—her ex-boyfriend and former police officer, Will McCoy.
Despite a devastating breakup, Will jumps at the chance to help the woman who broke his heart. When the killer ramps up the stakes, Will is forced to take her into hiding—where the passion they once shared reignites, deeper and hotter than ever. But can Will keep Megan alive long enough to win back her heart?
This book really didn't do alot for me. There was just something off for me. Some of the dialog was really great and some of it was like eh? It was too sad and to many miscommunications and misunderstandings. I kept waiting for it to get better but it never really did. It was a OK story but not good enough. I don't think I'm ready to give up on reading this author but it's not a book i would ever re read. I will say that the sex scenes were awesome. Best parts of the book. If you would like to find out more about the author or this book please click here www.wynterdaniels.com . I give protective Custody 3 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick Stars.
This was a great read that had just the right mix of romance and suspense. What I loved most about this book was that just when I thought I had everything worked out, another twist or turn happened that added another layer to the story. Will and Megan were hot together, and although it was frustrating at times watching both of them rationalize why they shouldn’t be together, it was hard not to root for them finding their HEA. The mystery of the book had me turning the pages as fast as possible to find out what was going to happen next, but since there were so many characters and inter-connected story lines, I found myself slowing down to make sure I didn’t miss anything.
I just love second chance love stories, so it was easy for me to get sucked in to Will and Megan’s romance. It was heartbreaking watching Megan struggle with her love for her grandmother, her only family left, and her love for Will. It was frustrating to learn of the prejudices that existed from not only Megan’s grandmother, but Will’s family, and the impact they had on Will & Megan’s relationship. It was so clear that these two belonged together – I just wanted to yell at both of them to listen to their hearts!
This was an action packed story that took off right from the beginning and never slowed down. Another great read from Wynter Daniels!
I was given a copy of this book by the author for an honest review.
In Protective Custody by Wynter Daniels, Megan Jackson sees a murder occur in the building across from her office during the evening of Halloween. When she reports the murder the police are dubious, at best, regarding her testimony of the murder. There is no body left at the scene and since there has not been a murder in the area for more than two years, the police blow off Megan's account.
Megan turns to her ex-boyfriend, Will McCoy - former police officer- because she has no one else she turn to or trust. The killer is after her now. Even though Megan broke off their relationship six months ago, Will is more than happy to assist his former flame in hopes that he can also re-ignite their relationship while lending her his support. Aside from the tribulations of trying to keep Megan alive, they have hurdles to overcome with their respective families because of their inter-racial relationship. Along the way, they must overcome their backgrounds and the negativity to their relationship.
Winter Daniels offers a sweet, suspenseful erotic romance that keeps the reader guessing. The mystery and the downfall of the supporting characters keeps the reader engaged.
This book had me on the edge of my seat. If you like mystery, intrigue and steamy love scenes this is the book for you. Wynter Daniels never fails to bring everything to her books. Megan has witnessed a murder across from her place of work on Halloween. The police think it is a false alarm, maybe a prank or an over active imagination. The only person she can turn to is her ex-boyfriend Will, a former police officer. When it appears the murderer is after Megan now, she and Will are thrown together all the time. The nearness reminds them of the love they had before both their hearts were broken, but certain circumstances still keeps Megan at a distance. Yet she finds it is hard to not touch him. As the situations start to become more dangerous for Megan, Will turns to help. Yet, the troubles in people's lives don't always make them reliable. I was completely pulled right into this story of Megan and Will. Feeling their heartache, Megan's fear and anger at characters in the story, so much I would shake my head, be frustrated and actually wish I could smack them. I loved this. I want to go on the journey with this characters and Wynter Daniels' writing takes you on one. I highly recommend this book, Read it today!!
This story was a sweet one about second chances. Megan and Will dated and were very happy until their families let Megan know it would never work. Megan's grandmother didn't approve of her dating a white man, Will's mother didn't approve that Megan was black. Caving to family pressure on both sides Megan broke up with Will.
Months later Megan witnesses a murder, however when she calls the police no one believes her. It doesn't help that this happened on Halloween and there was no body or evidence where it happened. Needing comfort Megan calls Will for help. Will believes her and hopes that this being thrown together like this will give them a second chance, as he hasn't stopped loving her.
Will and Megan seem to be betrayed at every corner by people who were supposed to be helping them. While some of those people seemed to have a "good" reason, they ended up paying a high price. While in hiding Megan and Will grow closer, each one remembering just how great they were before. They had great chemistry which made for some very steamy scenes between them.
There were some minor flaws. Why would the pilice take her seriously. Granted that when they went back they didn't find a body but they should have investigated further when the next incicdent happened at her house - at least that would have been my take on things.
To be betrayed like that from a spouse. The only person pussy-whipped in this book was the partner. The moment that I found out thatshe was squireling away money. I woukd have taken it and opened another. Go ahad leave skank. Sorry to see him take his life though. At least he came clean before the end. I wonder how that troll feels now.
