Has Joshua Scribner got a soft side? Does a romantic hide, deeply concealed in his persona? Perhaps not.
This is about a young couple madly in love. They do not have to work very hard for their relationship to develop and their love grows stronger each passing day.
Then a bizarre event changes everything they once took for granted. But then as they say, “Life goes on”. Scribner, I honestly don’t know how his mind is so creative across his writing. As here, on the boundary between the perceived and the supernatural. Also, he leaves us wondering whether a severe medical event like a stroke or a deep coma could affect a person.
We have seen that sometimes memories are lost and perhaps we have heard of people waking up and speaking with an unknown linguistic flair by suddenly being fluent in a foreign language.
The writer, brilliantly in my opinion goes further still. He poses the thought that they may regain consciousness as a completely different person.
Married at 18, against everyone’s advice. Greg and Carly are insanely happy together. Literally no problems to speak of.
At 21, the pair are in college. The elated couple is frolicking on the beach when they notice a terrifying sight—someone is in the water. But the little girl’s death isn’t the only tragedy of the day.
Ten years later. New wife, new life: affluent husband and wife lawyer power couple duo.
Wow. Sharp and fast-paced. Very crazy. Would be a bit stronger if one element about Tab have been addressed.
I love Joshua's short stories and this one didn't disappoint me. I just wish his short stories would become long stories...they're just that good and over before you know it. Scribner always ends the story to leave you, the reader, wanting more!
This short morbid book was a good quick read...in a weird way. I really don't think I would want this to happen as much as I love any of my people. As I was reading, I was trying to think ahead but I really wasn't prepared for the full ramification of being replaced...
