Before I worded at the library, I had never heard of this series. Once I did and read the first few, I thought they were very funny - even as a adult. Must say, though, this latest one was not funny to me. Perhaps I'm just too old.
Bad Kitty was chasing a fly, Uncle Murray was in the way, chaos ensued, and Uncle Murray accidentally got a video of it and posted it online. Overnight the video goes viral and Uncle Murray gets a call from a studio exec asking if they can make a movie based on the viral video. With Hollywood stars in his eyes and promises of copious amounts of shrimp to Kitty, the two are off to LA to shoot a movie. But when they arrive things aren't quite as they expect, and readers know that nefarious chickens want to use the movie to bring down cat popularity. Will the chickens succeed? Will Uncle Murray and Kitty become big stars? Or will they go home crying?
A humorous foray into the fickleness of fame, an examination of where self-worth comes from, a warning to always read contracts before you sign them, and the joys of unlikely friendships. And since it features Uncle Murray and Kitty, of course you know it is going to be funny and entertaining. Another enjoyable Bad Kitty graphic novel.
Notes on content: Language: None Sexual content: None Violence: Uncle Murray is the stuntman and gets a little banged up, but he's fine. It is mentioned the movie made featured some potentially violent scenes but none are shown, and it isn't portrayed as a positive thing. A fly is eaten. Ethnic diversity: Uncle Murray is the only human portrayed. He's a white American. LGBTQ+ content: None Other: Plotting to be mean and bring shame to others, but this backfires. Thinking fame equals worth, but this is addressed.
Bad Kitty gets mixed up in the creation of a Hollywood movie where everything goes wrong, which may be for the best, as a sinister chicken conspiracy is lurking behind the scenes!
Well, this wasn't dreadful, but it was a let down. The Bad Kitty series has been terrific for years, very clever and funny, with humor that works well for children and adults. Sadly, there was nothing new to this book, and even the retreads of the humor that worked in the past felt lukewarm. On top of which, the series feels like it's really lost some heart. In the past it did a great job on mixing good humor and good messages; friendship, adoption, healthy lifestyle, even the refugee crisis. Yeah, no joke, this goofy comic about a troublemaking cat had a refugee crisis storyline that was both funny and moving. But the recent topics, like obsession with cell phones and the decline of Hollywood movie-making, feel like lectures from a cranky boomer.
Me and my child will probably be going back to Bad Kitty for years, it's such a clever comic with broad audience appeal. But I do not think the newer books are really worth revisiting like the earlier ones.
Uncle Murray accidentally posts an video of Bad Kitty and it goes viral. With millions of likes, he's feeling pretty liked and loved by the masses, so he's feeling pretty good. The cherry on top comes when some chickens in Hollywood offer him and Bad Kitty a sweet movie deal that promises him fame and money. But, is it too good to be true and can Uncle Murray even convince Bad Kitty to go?
This was a fun read, including two games that entail the reader to roll dice and see what combination of excuses Uncle Murray can come up with to give Bad Kitty. There is also some interesting information about shared DNA between humans and other things, including cats. As always a fun and enjoyable read with some interesting info sprinkled in.
Some of these newer Bad Kitty books are not up to par with the old ones, which makes me sad. I didn't like the colored pages compared to the old black and white ones, it's just too overwhelming. And I didn't really like the chicken subplot the first time it came out, so the fact that it just keeps coming up is irksome to me. But I did really appreciate how Murray finally realized fame isn't all that great... sort of. I feel the Uncle Murray, although I like him, has become the main character in the series instead of Kitty, and I don't like that.
Uncle Murray inadvertently makes a video that goes viral causing Hollywood to call and invite them to make a movie. What they don't realize is that chickens are making the movie to prove that cats are bad. Uncle Murray has hopes of becoming famous but the movie is doomed from the start. Poor bad kitty gets caught up in Murray's hopes of stardom. This crazy story is funny. Love the illustrations and coloring.
My first Bad Kitty book I’ve read, this one is a graphic novel. It is for a younger audience, grades 2-5? Not having read the other ones, Uncle Murray takes the heavy dialogue toll. I wished there was more Kitty in the narrative. Read this because kids at my public library will get to meet Nick Bruel on Zoom in February & get a copy of this book. I liked the fun animal facts inserted.
Uncle Murray is really the star of this one. Uncle Murray uploads a video of Kitty chasing a fly and it's so popular that it gets optioned for a movie. Uncle Murray loves the idea so much that he misses the reality. The reality being that the movie is being produced by chickens with an agenda.
This was my first Bad Kitty graphic novel. It was cute. It focuses on Uncle Murray and Kitty. Bad Kitty doesn't seem all that bad in this story. All she does is attack a fly. Will likely purchase for my school library as my students love graphic novels and like bad kitty.
It's actually 3.9! I wanted the graphic novel to be more about Bad Kitty and not the Uncle. This was my first Bad Kitty novel; I might want to check out others. I did love the Bad Kitty parts; my kind of Kitty!
Children who enjoy Kitty's crazy antics will enjoy this addition to the series. Kitty goes after a fly, Uncle Murray films her and the rest is absurd nonsense, which many children love to read.
I love this series! It is a HOOT! I especially enjoyed the mix and match pages for Uncle Murray's excuses. Those are great fun. Thanks for a great stress reliever for this adult fan!
My first Bad Kitty GN. Cute and funny. Kids will enjoy it. A little too much Uncle Murray dialogue. I did laugh out loud and parts. The illustrations were well done.
Great activities for the reader to be a part of the story such as rolling the dice to generate Uncle Murray’s excuse and paper dolls to help Bad Kitty and Uncle Murray dress fancy.

I have not read these books since I was a kid. Genuinely, reading the full color version of this felt so much better than going on my phone during a break between studying. I may have to check out another.
