Though written for younger readers, this book still fascinated me with the information it provided. My ten-year-old sister is reading it now after catching glimpses over my shoulder. It is about war, so there is deaths, bombings, and tragedy mentioned, but it is not dwelt on. Unless a child is very tenderhearted, it should be fine for them to read.

The stories of several individual animals who worked to save lives of those in battle was really fascinating! I enjoyed the whole short book.

This book is really good for children and even older ages to read about the history of animals in the past that joined the war.

It's a nice story and some of the stories I know already are about the bear who carries out heavy ammo and lived his life in the British zoo to take care of him

Facts - (that bear if I knew is they inspire of the author went there to create a story of Winnie pooh insertion

This is quite an informative discussion of the role played by animals in recent wars, mainly the two World Wars. Quite a range of animals feature, as well, from horses and dogs to pigeons and even a cat. The most surprising to me was dolphins! It is illustrated with photographs, and the text is written in story format. This is a book that will be enjoyed by any child who likes animals.

Great book! Although there are only 64 pages in this book, I learned a lot & was touched by the dedication of our animal friends.

On amazing fact I learned was that in Ancient Egypt sometimes lions were trained & used to attack enemy soldiers.

Great, short, easy read.

"Although they were usually safe from their own soldiers, carrier pigeons were constantly targeted by enemy gunmen, who wanted to stop them from delivering their messages. But even the most skilled marksmen had trouble shooting the birds, as they flapped past at speeds of up to 100 km (60 miles) per hour. So, instead of bullets, enemy soldiers began to use faster birds of prey, such as hawks, to catch the speeding pigeons."

[Paper Clippers]

From horses and elephants carrying armies, to dogs parachuting from planes and dolphins detecting mines, animals have played a part in some of the bloodiest battles in history. Their stories are as compelling and tragic as those of the soldiers they served.
