From filling the tub with water, using a washcloth, and shampooing hair to playing with a boat and drying with a towel, all the fun of taking a bath is depicted in this board book that explores the daily ritual of washing. The bright colors and simple shapes are ideal for toddlers, while the straightforward text will further enrich vocabulary and stimulate language development.
Liesbet Slegers (1975, Belgium) studied Graphics and Illustrations at the Saint-Lucas institute of Antwerp. She works as a fulltime graphic designer and illustrator. With her simple, recognizable style and vivid colours she knows how to attract the attention of every toddler. In her many books, Slegers frequently focuses on the first experience of a toddler," a time she characterized as "exciting but also very scary! I try to help them with my books," she added, "and also try to give the parents or teacher some assistance!"
When we first brought this home, I made mom read it over and over and over again. "bathtime book? bathtime book?" There was one night that I pretended I was going to pick out a different book, but then I picked up this one again. Mom thought it was ironic when I picked out this book at the library because I had recently accidentally fallen in the bathtub and knocked out some teeth :( So she thought I would not like bathtime anymore. But this book is great. It is funny when the boy takes off all his clothes "naked baby!" And he has a boat in his bathtub and a warm towel, just like me! But I have a duck and he doesn't. ("where duck mommy? where duck? where?")
Bright, simple illustrations perfect for the youngest readers and listeners. What I love, love, love about this board book is how it models extending conversation with babies. Instead of just writing, "This is the bathtub," which many board books would have done, Slegers continues, "Look, water is rushing out of the faucet! The bathtub is filling up with water." This is exactly the type of conversation and vocabulary that little babies need to hear to build their language skills.
Bathing is a board book appropriate for children 0-12 months old because it promotes the child’s awareness of their environment around them, namely daily routines or real life situations. This book promotes the child’s vocabulary skills by putting into practice of reading and talking as they learn how to do daily activities.
A simple, fun, brightly colored book for kids to enjoy about bath time. From getting ready for the bath, to having their hair washed and playing in the bath with their toys, young kids will be able to relate to the story and compare it to the things they do during bath time.
Natalie liked this one right away. She generally likes books with nice cartoon babies in them. I would prefer either more of a plot rather than describing the different moments or items of the bath. Natalie and I talked about the toy boat and she said she wanted one.
Ages birth-2. A short simple board book story about the daily routines of taking a bath can help babies understand how stories work and build vocabulary.
