Over ninety per cent of road accidents are due to human error. This alarming statistic can only be reduced if drivers and other road users improve their road sense. The motor vehicle can be a lethal weapon, and road discipline must be accepted. Some of it has the authority of law; the remainder is more of an advisory kind based entirely on commonsense and reasonable consideration for every user of the road.

Roadcraft is the Police Drivers Manual. It has been prepared by police drivers who over many years have gained considerable knowledge and expertise applying these driving techniques under all conditions. It is aimed at all road users to raise standards of driving, increase the margin of safety on the roads and cut down the unacceptable figures of death and injury resulting from road accidents.

The message of the book is contained in what the compilers call the Ten Commandments of Motoring which end with the injunction-Drive according to the Highway Code and you will drive safely.

This book should be in every vehicle owner's glove compartment and every driver should know its contents thoroughly
