Katharine was my 2nd great grand aunt. Her second husband was treated near the end of his life by my grandfather Reginald Francis Jowers. So clearly a good read!
Read this book for a research paper that I was doing on C.S. Parnell. There were many good points brought up in this book, but some distracting points too. The book's good points stem from her support of Katharine and support of women in general, which was a refreshing aspect to the book, after reading many books about Parnell, written from the male perspective, who tended to be anti-Katharine in tone. The distracting points were the constant analogies that were made throughout the book, comparing their tragic love story, to other literary stories that were for the most part all fictional. The use of certain vocabulary words to were well over the top of most average educated readers. And lastly, the ending of the book could have been written so much better. The ending did not leave me with a lasting impression on this very important time in Irish history.
