Deluded by Dawkins? A Christian Response to The God Delusion

Rate this book

In his book The God Delusion, prominent atheist Richard Dawkins has brought together the many arguments against the likelihood of God's existence. This challenging book sold 50,000 copies in hardback within a few weeks of publication, and a paperback is set to follow.

In Deluded by Dawkins?, Andrew Wilson subjects these arguments to rigorous analysis. First he clarifies those which are unsubstantiated or irrelevant, and then he acknowledges the many points with which Christians can actually agree. From here he examines eight arguments over which Christians must differ, and explains why.

Easy to read and follow, this is for any believer who wishes to see through the rhetoric to the real issues at stake.

In the interest of a "balanced" view, I decided to read one of the so-called critiques of Dawkin's excellent "The God Delusion". It was dreadful. Poorly argued, very little to recommend it.

The fundamental problem with it is that none of its arguments gets anywhere unless you have already accepted the basic assumption that is the grounds of all faith.

My mother gave me this in response to my giving Dad The God Delusion and so I gave it a read. It's arguments are very weak. The author spends probably 90% of the book talking about Dawkins being wrong and never really justifies this. He gives a few arguments but even the most casual of logicians would see they rest on entirely circular logic. All in all I expected better (but I really don't know why). One of his key arguments is that because Dawkins rejects the supernatural he must be wrong. Lol.

All in all I'll stick with Mr Dawkins. As he points out, all Christians are Hindu athiests, so why not just take it one god further.
