Delighted that the new camp director at her summer camp is Beetlejuice, Lydia finds her joy tempered by the realization that the camp she is attending is actually located in the Neitherworld.
Beetlejuice. It’s a movie with its flaws, a fun sequel, and a memorable cartoon series. But one thing that NO ONE remembers… are the kids’ horror books. They are pretty loosely in the genre as they read just like episodes of the TV series—heck, they’re literally in that universe—but still fit, most evidently since Minstrel published these. I picked up Camp Fright because, well, it’s the only one I own, and these are damn rare so I can’t be picky. It’s a fine read. I enjoy the feeling it replicates from the show with the word puns and personality clashes of Beetlejuice and Lydia. The writing is passable, the story here is fun enough, and the interior art is okay. However I feel the ending and final confrontation is weak, and the book’s structure isn’t a strong suit. Overall, 6/10. I enjoyed it, wouldn’t recommend going out of your way for it though. I will not let you forget Beetlejuice is a predator LMAO.
