Focusing on Philip Larkin's individually published volumes, this book traces clearly the development of his poetic achievement. Arguing engagingly and setting close analysis of individual poems within a theoretical context, Andrew Swarbrick offers a fresh and timely reappraisal of one of this century's major writers.
I read the chapter on the Movement for a paper. Tells you what you need to know -- competent analysis -- but not really anything that interesting? Perhaps I've wronged it, and the rest of the book is much better
I don't agree with all of Swarbrick's conclusions -- Larkin was not a social person! -- but this was a thoughtful resource which likely deserved more attention than I was able to give it.
