If the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, why is chef Abby Porter still sleeping alone? Yes, she likes getting paid to whip up goodies in a well-equipped kitchen, but she would love to get into a good relationship with a well-equipped guy who won't break her heart. Hang on. . .who's the tall, sexy man with the accent?
He's Never Misplaced His. . .
A newly minted earl like Ian Wincott has more important things to do than get overly acquainted with a mere cook. And Abby Porter is from. . .New Jersey. That alone makes his blue blood run cold, although he will admit that Abby is pretty. And amusing. Which must be why she attracts so much attention. How terribly American of her to enjoy it. Could it be that he is jealous? Or in love?
"What a treat!" -- New York Times bestselling author MaryJanice Davidson on Glory Days
Irene Peterson is a true Jersey girl, having lived in the central part of the state all her life. Her fondest memories are of spending summers on the shore. She even met her future husband on the boardwalk at Seaside Heights. After earning a B.A. in English and history from Montclair State, Irene went on to teach in area schools before marrying her handsome Viking. They have two terrific daughters and continue to walk the boards at Seaside at least twice a year.
The premise of this book has merit, but then halfway through it went downhill with over the top antics and too many characters showing up. Anyone ever see the movie "Clue?"
An american women, who happens to be a chef finds her live in boyfriend having fun with another woman in her kitchen. With that in mind, she hops on a plane to England where they had planned a vacation of sorts. Her revenge would be taking the vacation and the money, and have him fend for himself.
The hero Ian is an English Earl, a snob in the truest sense but has no money. Without his knowledge, his sister rents out rooms of their huge castle for vacationers which happens to be where our heroine Chef Abby extraordinare ends up. And the fact that Ian and Abby have met before and don't like each other makes things interesting.
Peterson tries her hardest to make Abby likeable and Ian not the stuffed shirt he first seemed to be when Abby first met him. Ian has a secret on why he needs money and why he keeps it so hush-hush. (The secret is to good to be true, he is really a nice guy, or so the author tries to point out)
Abby takes over the castle's, or whatever building it is kitchen and cooks like there is no tomorrow. Ian also needs Abby to pretend to be his fiancee to save face and get money from a rich American investor for his secret project.
There is no passion between these two, even though the whole opposites attracts scenario should have worked. Even when Abby and Ian get together, the reader doesn't understand why and doesn't care how they will make it work.
Abby is spunky that soon grates on the nerves and Ian is just a two dimensional character, when he could have been so much more. Other than the whole English countryside environment, the book is a dud.
Overall boring in a way that makes your eyes glaze over.
This is the first book that I've read by this author. I couldn't put this book down and didn't until I absolutely had to! It is such a heart-warming read and will definately put a smile on your face!
This was a sweet, not too heavy little romance. A bit of new age charm, yummy cooking and a uptight contemporary earl. It was a breeze to read and was charming.
