In his madness, Death the Kid has embraced a new notion of "order": Only in nothingness can there be true balance and equilibrium. But for Black*Star, being on equal footing with anyone is not his style. Black*Star has always wanted to "transcend the gods"-now his only chance may be to overpower his shinigami friend and take Death down if he wants to save him...!

OHKUBO Atsushi

Atsushi Ōkubo ( 大久保篤), also romanized as Atsushi Ohkubo, is a Japanese manga author and fantasy artist known for his work on the manga series Soul Eater, which has been adapted into an anime. Okubo worked as an assistant under Rando Ayamine, on the manga series Get Backers. He also created artwork for various cards for the Lord of Vermillion game.

Atsushi Ōkubo was not a model student and was more attracted to drawing than to learning. At the age of 20, after finishing studies at a manga school where he met Rando Ayamine, the author of Get Backers, he became Rando Ayamine's assistant for two years. Finally, he won a competition at Square Enix's Gangan magazine with his first manga series B.Ichi and it was published for four volumes. After the end of his last manga, he created Soul Eater, still for Square Enix's Gangan magazine, which brought him worldwide success.

Don't mind me, I'm just casually re-reading the entire manga for the 5th time or so because A) it's one of my comfort series and I need all the comfort I can get right now, B) I own the entire thing physically so it's right there, and C) everyone is talking about fall/ Halloween reads and SE fits that to a T.

Gonna give all the volumes 5 stars as a default. There's plenty I could complain about if I wanted, namely the unnecessary fanservice/ weird sexualization of teen characters, but I'm not gonna do that right now. It pops up rarely enough that I can just pretend it doesn't exist.

Big + for female Giriko and that nobody can kill her... save for herself! But the whole thing with power and order was at one point pretty shallow. You can tell that it was just big words with nothing behind them...

I think this has to be my FAVORITE cover. It’s so beautiful. Also the character development and how a certain dynamic came full circle was just 👏🏿

Kid stole this volume. He’s so fucking cool. Noah went out easier than I expected though…but we gotta set the stage for Asura to take over as big bad.

death the kid has got to be one of the coolest characters ever

edit after reread:

I cannot express how much I love black star and death the kid’s friendship. they both lift each other up and make each other so human. I could ramble about kid for days. black star gets kid like no other and I’m so grateful that that. he sees that kid’s quirks and flaws make him human despite being a shinigami and that’s what will make him a great ruler. kid is SO human. he didn’t need to enrol in the dwma and gather souls. he didn’t need to find his own weapons. he didn’t need to make friends. but he did because he wanted to. he wanted to love those experiences and use them to create a balanced world. he’s so fucking human. SO HUMAN. I LOVE DEATH THE KID 😭😭😭😭😭

Soul Eater, Vol. 19 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next five chapters (77–81) of the on-going manga series.

Maka Albarn and Soul Evans have difficulties to fight Giriko and when everything was supposed to be over, Giriko's soul is starting to self-destroy, because it couldn't hold back 800 years of bloodlust and finally disappears.

The fight between Black Star and Death the Kid is getting more violent, they all are consumed by the Madness of the Black Mass and want to find out each other who's right and wrong about force. After they answer to the question of the true force, The Black Mass sends the Spartoi squad back to the real world while the Death Weapon Meister Academy (DWMA) is fighting Noah and his minions.

Death the Kid, who declares wanting to create a world of harmony and balance defeats and destroys Noah with two of the Lines of Sanzu's power. Gopher retreats flying away with the Book of Eibon and BREW while Justin is in a familiar place surrounded by Clowns where it seems to be the Kishin's hideout.

This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Atsushi Ōkubo. The tankōbon concludes the rescue mission of Death the Kid from the Book of Eibon. It mainly centers on the fight between Black Star and Death the Kid to determine the nature of the force that is controlling them. Eventually, they are spit out into the real world, where the DWMA is currently fighting Noah and his minions.

All in all, Soul Eater, Vol. 19 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.

Maka and soul have to deal with giriko being in a new body while Maka and soul got injuries. Giriko's soul begins to break since she, in a female body now, has 800 years of pent up bloodlust and i guess that's akin to a heart attack?

Black star and kid fight and they have a philosophical debate on the black mass question bout their desire for power. They think they own answer is right but after the fight they agree on an answer and I guess it's right since the black mass sends spartoi back into the real world.

During this time, the adults find the location of Noah and tezca tlipoca immediately gets killed by some weird worm thing. It sucks since I don't get why he wore the bear head and I feel bad for his partner Enrique.

Noah releases a manticore and it's freaky. Thankfully that's when the students come back and they fight the manticore. Once that was done Noah release a cyclops and then a horadragon. They win by working together and it's a great battle.

Justin gets away since he got soured on Noah wanting to be greater than the kishin. Justin didn't like that and he leaves during the battle since the real kishin called to him to find it. Justin goes to some place and there are creatures that are weird looking.

Justin goes crazy is still weird but I guess he was more prone to crazy like Stein. He just didn't have a Marie to stabilize him. It was cute to see the teachers be proud of their students defeating the creatures.

Onto the next book.

Another victory for Shibusen's students. I can't wait to read more, the end with the great devourer is very intriguing. I can't wait to learn more about him. I'm glad that Black-Star is finally getting Kid out of his transient madness.

A little disappointed in how the Maka vs Giriko but the final fight with Noah all made up for it as we get to learn more about Kid's back story and get a real deep dive about his personality. His wants and dreams and his personal view about the world. Also Noah had some creative attacks as he summons some very bizarre creatures which was fun to see. Also Kid's new special attack was really cool to see.

The battle between Kid and Black Star ends with Kid overcoming the madness. I knew it would but what I was not expecting was the madness inside the book so offer any help. That was a pleasant surprise. Someone does die but I can't remember who so obviously no one important to me. This volume concludes the trip into the Eibon book which I very much enjoyed.

The cover of this manga really shows just how awesome this volume is going to be. Kid is such a great character and we get to see him power-up like he never has so far in the series. Even Black*Star was awesome in this one. There's some awesome fighting and perfect character interaction. What a great volume!

The chainsaw guy is back and that's a character's I loathe. Plus during the battle between Kid and Soul, there's a lot of uncompelling pseudo-philosophy being blathered. There's still good stuff in the story but, it seems, not as much as in previous volumes as the series draws closer to an ending.
