[Ian Pinto]

An excellent book by one of the foremost scholars in Salesian material. Peter Lappin gives us an honest view into the life and times of Bl. Michael Rua. He carefully avoids hagiographical narration and instead chooses a historical retelling. The book has 13 chapters covering the early life up to the death of Rua. The author brings out the personality of Rua and gives the reader the opportunity to appreciate his character given the historical circumstances.

On the whole a very good book.
