Don Pendleton was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, December 12, 1927 and died October 23, 1995 in Arizona.
He wrote mystery, action/adventure, science-fiction, crime fiction, suspense, short stories, nonfiction, and was a comic scriptwriter, poet, screenwriter, essayist, and metaphysical scholar. He published more than 125 books in his long career, and his books have been published in more than 25 foreign languages with close to two hundred million copies in print throughout the world.
After producing a number of science-fiction and mystery novels, Don launched in 1969 the phenomenal Mack Bolan: The Executioner, which quickly emerged as the original, definitive Action/Adventure series. His successful paperback books inspired a new particularly American literary genre during the early 1970's, and Don became known as "the father of action/adventure."
"Although The Executioner Series is far and away my most significant contribution to world literature, I still do not perceive myself as 'belonging' to any particular literary niche. I am simply a storyteller, an entertainer who hopes to enthrall with visions of the reader's own incipient greatness."
Don Pendleton's original Executioner Series are now in ebooks, published by Open Road Media. 37 of the original novels.
Now that this new era of The Executioner has officially begun and the mafia is basically wiped out, Bolan has free reign to do what he wants and he takes full advantage, this time tearing through St. Paul Minnesota in act of revenge for a close friend.
Unlike some of the previous entries in this series, The Violent Streets reads more like detective/mystery as Bolan and Pol race to find out who is behind a series of violent attacks on women.
And, like all mysteries, there's a nice little twist at the end that makes it worth the time spent reading. While this one isn't quite up to snuff with The New War, it's still a fun ride that, although over 50 years old, still feels contemporary.
I liked it. I like Newton's writing. Again, this is a 70s type action book. Not everybody's cup of tea but they are fun to read once in a while. Its not a book I take seriously and read purely for enjoyment.
Closer to a 3.5. Enjoyed this one, a nice piece of history being Michael Newton's first time writing the Bolan character, he would go on to write him more times then anybody. This is a different story then usual, smaller body count and really kind of like a hard edge detective story. Pol's sister was raped and barely escaped a serial killer with her life and he calls Bolan in for help. Seems to be more then just a serial killer, seems the police department themselves are protecting the killer for some reason. Bolan smells a rat and starts rattling cages like only he can.
Recommended, if just for being Newton's first, though its a solid read as well, a slightly different Executioner story.
Meh. Lacks the polish of later Mack Bolan stories written by Jerry Van Cook. Still, lots of bullet-riddled meat stuffed in car trunks, courtesy of The Executioner!

Times Read: 1
One of the first series I read consistently. This series and the Destroyer series are responsible for my love of reading and stories.
Characters - Looking back to my younger reading days, I loved Mack Bolan and thought he was one of the coolest characters in history. 30 years later, I realize that the characters were pretty stereotypical, but I still love him.
Story - The stories are average and fairly typical. Bad guys going to kill or hurt, Mack is going to kill them or die trying. Not much in creativity but it really worked for me as a male teenager. I wanted to own guns and protect the world just like Mack.
Overall - I started reading these when I was 16. I enjoyed them up until about age 19. My tastes changed from Military intrigue to Fantasy / SciFi. I would recommend reading these especially for younger males.
NOTE: I am going to rate these all the books in this series the same. Some of the stories are a bit better or a bit worse but I can't find one that I would rate a 2 or 4.
Bolan, fresh from an overseas assignment and hoping for a respite has been called to assist Blancales in St. Paul, MN. This is personal. Pol's sister Toni has been badly beaten & raped while working on a case. The local police are not eager to investigate it to completion. Why? Political coverup? Is there a mob angle? Bolan will investigate and it won't be good for anyone who blocks his progress. The Executioner will strike again.
Classic 80's Bolan. I much prefer these titles from the 1980's to the original 70's books. That said this number takes place in St. Paul MN. A friends sister is raped, and Mack comes to bring the hammer down. A nice quick read.
