A snapshot of modern romance gone bad, complete with its complexities and contradictions, It Was Over When... compiles the best user-submitted stories of lost love from its companion website (www.itwasoverwhen.com), to create a greatest hits collection of cringe-inducing love schadenfreude. The moment you realize you've got a bad romance can be funny, sad, and sometimes both—but it is nearly always resonant, therapeutic, and universal. This is a spot-on voyeuristic guide to navigating the landmine riddled field of love.
This was fun enough. What was so interesting was that an aftermath piece was included in each story. I found it amazing how some guy would do something outrageous and the aftermath was, He broke up with me six months later.
A very funny book. Not always for the faint of heart, so of the things that the these people did to each other are rather nasty, but always for anyone who can laugh from another's pain or at least learn something from it. "It Was Over When...: Tales of Romantic Dead Ends" is a quick read and a ncie break from all of the serious-minded science fiction and historical tomes which are my usual reading fair.
Enjoy....laugh......and pray you never go where these people went!
This is just one of those amusing quick reads that don't mean much. It's all stories of the moment people knew their relationships were over. Some are funny, others sad, but all interesting. It's really just quick snapshots. It's not something you'll read over and over unless you find it extremely funny, but it was a fun read.
I'm giving this book 4 stars because there's no option for half stars and 3.5 just seems right. There are quite a few laugh out loud anecdotes, but this book based on the blog ItWasOverWhen.com is way too short. I recommend this for anyone needing a good belly laugh.
Most of the stories, I kept thinking, s/he was upset about THAT? Whereas others, I thought, who the hell would date that person? And a few I really sympathized with.
But it's interested what people's dealbreakers are.
Reading this book is a lot like reading FML online. It is entertaining at first, but eventually reading all the entries in this book just get more and more sad (and a couple a little scary as well).
