The title means,The Church and the Fire

When I was a teenager,Nasim Hijazi was a very popular writer of historical fiction in Urdu. His books follow a pattern, there is always the infallible Muslim hero.He battles either traitors within or enemies outside, like the Mongols or the Crusaders.

The books are very long, there is a lot of glorification of war and endless military campaigns. The tone is very didactic.I rather enjoyed all these elements long ago,but I don't now.

The setting for this book is Muslim (Moorish) Spain, their downfall had begun.Hijazi then goes into a lot of detail about the atrocities committed by the Spanish inquisition.Fact or fiction,it was a pretty gut wrenching description. It was pretty hard to read.

if I had never red this book I would never had known about the history of Spain (Undlus the name used in the book). I felt pain for all those people mostly Muslims, especially the time they had to give away their precious legacy including Quraan on which they were proud. It remind me the history of Russian bonfire when Hitler put restriction on books and burnt most of them in streets... Writer has taken his audience to the history with few main characters. I appreciate and pray for Naseem Hijazi for higher place in jannah. I can understand how much pain he would had felt during writing this fabulous and outstanding story embossed with the painful history of Undlus (Spain).

A typical Hijaazi history novel where hero is always Muslim. He is an honest, brave and ideal for others.

I still can't get over the fact that still people read such polemical-trash books in the name of history or historical-fiction

This book is brilliant .It has showed mass Inquisition of Muslims in Spain .Christians forced Muslims to leave their religion and follow Christianity. Priests threw holy water on Muslims and forced Muslims to follow Christianity .If Muslims don't follow, they were tortured in prisons and then burnt alive.

A couple is present in novel who migrated to Africa due to terror of their Christians rulers.

Christian rulers and priests have broken their concord which they had made with Muslims. They were real betrayers and cheated Muslims

Naseem Hijazi wrote the book in the context of the Muslim downfall in Spain. After the surrender of Abu Abdullah, the Muslims expelled out from Spain. The Christian rulers crushed the Muslims under inquisition law. Furthermore, the Christian forced Muslims to leave Spain or live as a Moore. Most of the Muslim families migrated to Marrakesh and lived their remaining life.
