Updated from the last two years, this latest guide to the nation's most dysfunctional family includes the best Homerisms, famous chalkboard sayings, brand new Simpson's singalong lyrics, couch gags, and plenty of images from the show.
Matthew Abram Groening is an American cartoonist, television producer and writer from Portland, Oregon.
Groening is best known as the creator of The Simpsons. He is also the creator of Futurama and the author of the weekly comic strip Life in Hell. Groening distributed Life in Hell in the book corner of Licorice Pizza, a record store in which he worked.
He made his first professional cartoon sale to the avant-garde Wet magazine in 1978. The cartoon is still carried in 250 weekly newspapers.
I would religiously watched The Simpson’s every weeknight at 6pm on BBC 2, whilst recording each episode that I hadn’t seen.
This guide was perfect as at the very front it listed all the episodes from each series. So with the TV Guide to hand I’d check to see if the episode already had a tick next to it. I pretty much got every episode on VHS!
The rest of the book included plenty of trivia on each individual episode. I use to rewatch this show on numerous occasions and with all the various information covered in this book I was constantly learning something new each time.
While this Simpsons Guide is noticeably shorter than the first one called "The Simpsons: A Complete Guide to our Favorite Family" it still has pluses that make it a must for huge Simpsons fans. My favorite new feature in this book are the song listings. You can sing along to your favorite in-episode tunes (or just quietly hum them in your head if you don't want to sound crazy).
This is a must for people that LOVE stuff about the show The Simpsons.
I bought this book several years ago and I remember that I felt in love with it when I saw it on the shelves. Of course, my rating is biased as I'm a huge fan of this show.
Stepping to the book, this ain't a read for someone who doesn't enjoy a bit too much The Simpsons. You won't find a story but a compilation of details, facts, quotes and other things about episodes, plus other stuff. It's a short read, just for fans.
This book is the second as part of a series released by Matt Groening that start at season one and work through the series aired at the time up until season 14. Each book is a continuation of the previous publication with multiple seasons covered within. This is important because anyone who reads this book, especially thinking they are getting a full series exploration, will no doubt be disappointed. While the first book covered seasons 1-8, this second one is very short, covering only seasons 9 and 10 but it still is filled with detail. Each episode overview for both seasons includes quotes, blink and you miss it things you may have missed, as well as fun information about background characters, songs, show highlights, character bios as well as the numerous and varied movie and pop culture references made by the writers and animators.
This is a great read if you like the attention to detail that The Simpsons have always had and the clever and creative signs, references and homage, or unique characters that have been created over the years. The trivia is enlightening and I was reminded of things I had long forgotten and even learnt a few things that made me even more in awe of the genius minds of the people who work on the show. If you are a trivia nut like I am the little random facts are fun to learn and it’s great to read about just how much thought goes into background characters and crowd scenes.
A longer version of this review was published on my blog Lost in a Good Book
2 for 1 special. The Legendary Simpsons animated series would lose its edge of hilarious well set up comedy (Similar to South Park, but opposed to Family Guy with nothing more than shreds of a coherent story and slapstick hackneyed jokes) told through a cartoon after about season 13 or so.
So please accept my choice of "The Simpsons Forever!...Continued" as a token of how funny the show used to be and as hope for a return to its original greatness. 2 for 1 special.
A really funny book with a variety of different story lines from mystery to humorous topics. there was once a story about a mysterious crime seen happening in the Springfield beach. The person who found out who was the criminal was gets a reward so then everybody starts searching and killing each other to get the prize but at the end the mysterious creature that kept killing was just a fish and everybody ended up dead
Read this (and the others in the series) a lot as a kid in the period in 5th-6th grade when I was getting into The Simpsons, this book and the others in the same series were necessary reading. Everytime I saw a new episode from this period I would go to the book and read up on the episode so I understood the parts that I missed (i.e., all the movie references). It was a good process :)
the second simpsons episode guide. doesn't cover as many seasons as the first colection, but still great. i keep wondering when the next one will come....as the years go on, i find that i remember the old ones less....
this book was just as good as the first volume of it, having the same stuff in it just talking about different seasons. slso the pictures and sketches they include are pretty funny and catchy, i actually cut some of them out.
This is a comic book that is very funny. I would recommend this book to people who like funny books. This book talks about a family, and that have super powers. I think mostly kids would like this book, but maybe other people will like this book
The Simpsons Forever! A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family...Continued provides in-depth reviews for Seasons 9-10 of The Simpsons. Each episode is broken down with plot summaries, quotes, cast & crew credits, and trivia. Additionally, there are various character profiles, a breakdown of which actor voices which characters, a list of all the couch gags, and the song lyrics to various Simpsons parody songs (plus the hit singles “Do the Bart Man” and “Deep, Deep Trouble”). Also included is “A Tribute to Troy McClure” (who makes his last appearance in Season 10), listing all of his faux TV and film credits. And of course the book is jam-packed with illustrations and screenshots from the episodes. A treasure trove for Simpsons fans, The Simpsons Forever! A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family...Continued is a virtual Simpsons-pedia.
Haven’t read the first one and probably never will, but this one was okay. It’s fun but not really so great. Good for catching up on things you missed, I guess. This is the kind of thing you can’t in all honesty rate 5 stars.
The first book covered all of the best seasons, and most of the best episodes. This one had all of that and added just two seasons. It was a cash grab.
