Grimm's fairy tale is expertly retold by Ronnie Randall with delightful illustrations by Ailie Busby.

A wicker stepmother does not relish having Hansel and Gretal living with her and her husband, the children's father so she persuades him to take them to the woods and lose them.

He does so but cleverly Hansel leaves a trail so that they find their way back, much to the stepmother's disgust.

She urges her husband to take them again to the woods and do the job of losing them properly. He does but the children find their way to a witch's house. She locks Hansel up prior to planning what to do with him but Gretal cleverly overpowers her and the children escape but not before they discover a horde of jewellery.

And when they find their way home their father is delighted to see them as his wife has gone away so the three of them live happily ever after!
