"And where is the fun in that, General?" -- Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. 'Black Widow'
Where is the fun, indeed - I'm all about giving this Marvel Verse series a shot (I have recently read the Black Panther and Dr. Strange editions, with Iron Man and She-Hulk in the 'tbr' stack), but that good will is now being stretched mighty thin with Black Widow. While the two opening spy stories are contemporary and energetic - owing to both the original 21st century publication date AND the cool cinematic portrayal of the character by actress Scarlett Johansson in the last decade - they're not particularly great or memorable, and then there was the rather undeserving inclusion of a nearly 40 year-old Spider-Man / Daredevil Marvel Team-Up tale in which Black Widow's involvement is basically a glorified cameo appearance. Things start to get back on track with the three lively and humorous espionage narratives that conclude the book, but they were all so brief it felt like they were over before they had even properly started. I am also mystified by the choice of dated cover artwork which, although is faithful to the character's appearance nearly 50 years ago, now laughably sort of resembles an annoyed Ann-Margret (and I mean no disrespect to the talented and attractive actress / singer - many thanks for you supporting / entertaining U.S. military personnel overseas during the Vietnam Conflict!) back when she was headlining Vegas shows during the 70's.

For a collection that’s supposed to highlight a variety of stories and serve as an introduction to Black Widow, this was underwhelming. I loved seeing the differences in the older versus newer issues regarding both arc and art, but I wanted more Widow-centric stories. She was barely present in a couple of them. Natasha is still a brilliant badass, though!

The first two stories were horrible and not at all in sync with the Avengers big storylines, which doesn't make a lot of sense for a comic that is supposed to introduce you to the universe and the character of Black Widow. I did enjoy the Daredevil team ups a lot, and the last two stories were all right, nothing special.

Loved the issues that they added, wished I read all the issues though! I read this all in like 45 to 30 minutes. I just started to read comics so Im not really used to how to read it etc. but I like them!

As a book designed to be a highlight of Black Widow stories throughout the many different iterations this collection sort of fails. The initial story is decent as a faux introduction to Natasha’s first meeting with the Avengers (in the universe it’s apart of) but the following story isn’t really Widow centric enough to justify its inclusion. The classic stories used are odd too as they’re good enough issues but don’t really highlight the great character Widow is. The last issues written by Kelly Sue DeConnick is a fun story boosted by Jamie McKelvie’s great art.

Overall: I'm surprised that the stories I enjoyed most were the older ones. Don’t really feel like it showcases Nat as a character tho; I’d love to know the criteria besides “one-shots/one issue”. On that note, funny how heavily it features DD even tho they don’t rly interact much nowadays (afaik).

I thought I should read the Marvel-Verse: Black Widow, because I like the character and want to know more about her... Well that didn't really work out, because she was barely in the comics that were chosen to be in this. Not even all of the comics were out of her perspective. I do not feel like I know more about her character at all. The comics were still good tho, but I'm a bit disappointed obviously.

My comics journey continues with one of my favorite Marvel heroes: Natasha Romanoff! This was a lot of fun and I'd like to read more comics centering on Nat. I especially liked her teamups with Daredevil!

een collectie van korte verhalen en allemaal draaien ze om Black Widow. sommige waren wel heel oud en vond de tekenstijl van sommige ook wat minder maar wel genoten van deze collectie verhalen.

Pretty hit and miss collection. Starts off with a Marvel Adventures Avengers, which reimagines Black Widow's first encounter with Avenger/Iron Man. Pretty fun fights with Crimson Dynamo, nothing groundbreaking, and Natasha is not doing too much although she is quite present. Second issue (also out of continuity) involves BW serving more as a minor plot object than doing anything meaningful, as the story centers around Reed Richards opposing an Avengers roster that includes Sue Storm. Third is more BW-centric, and we finally get to see Natasha doing some spy work. Fourth is a good issue with Daredevil & Spidey, but Black Widow barely appears in it. Next is a short story with Widow and Silver Sable (was ok), followed by another short story where she teams-up with Daredevil (ok story, horrendous art), and finally ends with another short story with some spy games (ok, but unsatisfying conclusion).
Enjoyable, but for a BW collection, it could have been better.

I liked the variation in the artwork, but that was kind of it really. For a Black Widow collection, a few of these stories barely even had her as a character in them, which was extremely sad. I kind of hoped for more, but I will continue to find some good collections with her as the main character.
