Happy Hour: Etiquette and Advice on Holy Merriment

Rate this book
ALL GOOD MISSIONARIES KNOW THE POWER OF SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT.

Wherever we’re called to bring the good news, people won’t move spiritually until they are connected socially. In other words, to help people hear the gospel, we need to open our front doors, set our tables, and practice hospitality and celebration.

Hugh Halter calls us to rediscover the ancient art of party and to follow in the patterns of Jesus— redefining holiness not as exclusion from the world but as holy engagement with the world. Party is sacrament, and we must reorient our lives around friends, food, and celebration if we are to have any influence upon the culture right next door.

Happy Hour unpacks the theology of party and is full of practical ideas for making merriment a way of life and a way of mission.

Great book on one of the best ways to love our neighbors

I like this short book. The only reason I gave it four stars is because it was so short. The best ideas usually don’t need 1000 pages and Hugh Halter has written about a simple way of following Jesus: throw parties and go to them. The theology is sound and the do’s and don’ts of being a sanctified reveler are very helpful. Every Christian needs to read this book because every Christian is in Hugh’s words a missionary saint

Quick, sweet little book. Very practical. My style of living in community. I do wonder how best to do this well in a smaller home.
