When Keisha is chosen as squad leader at cheerleading camp, she is unpleasantly suprised when her leadership role becomes more difficlt than her famous pyramid stunt
The more of these I read, the more I feel that this would have been so perfect as a kids' TV series. I can just picture it following Wishbone or something. Some magic, some life lessons; a little weird, a little formulaic, some world-building that doesn't bear close scrutiny.
First, for the intro to me reading Magic Attic Club, go here.
In this one, Keisha is thrilled when her school starts a cheerleading squad, but gets frustrated when none of her friends are as excited as she is.
Through the mirror, Keisha finds herself at a cheerleading camp. It's present day, as far as we can tell — or, at least no historical figures show up. She's picked to be a squad leader and has to learn that being a good leader doesn't mean getting to boss everyone around, it means helping your team show their strengths and work together.
Back at home, she immediately understands how to correct course with her friends, and naturally they're thrilled to cheer her on when she makes the school cheerleading squad. It's all pretty by-the-numbers. I had a copy of this as a kid and remembered nothing about it.
This was my favorite individual story so far in the series. The only reason it didn't get five stars was because the very first group book still beat it! I liked this one because Keisha went through the mirror to perform a skill she already had so it wasn't so unrealistic that she all of a sudden had some great new skill and knowledge of routines just like that. Keisha learned a valuable lesson about leadership and it was nice to see her lessons pay off in the end. I thought this was a very good story.
I used to love the "Magic Attic Club" series when I was a kid. However, "Three Cheers for Keisha" is by far my least favorite in the series. Nothing exotic or exciting happens in this book. It's nothing but cheerleading tryouts throughout. What's so thrilling about that?
Three Cheers for Keisha (Magic Attic Club #4) by Teresa Reed - Ah the challenges of leadership! Have fun with the cheerleaders in the magic attic! Happy Reading!
