An accusation could make a young Amish woman an outcast—and rob her of hope for love—in a special novella in the Brotherhood of the Raven series.Leah Miller’s peaceful life as a member of the Spring Township Amish church shatters when she’s accused of theft from an Englisch home in which she works. Even if she is not charged, if the crime is never solved, she will live under the shadow of the theft and may never be able to participate fully in her Amish community. Josiah King, friend of Leah’s brother, is drawn into helping Leah—and discovers the “little sister” he’d always tolerated has grown into a strong, appealing woman. But what future can they have together if suspicion makes Leah an outcast? As they attempt to learn the facts behind the accusation, danger grows around them. It’s only through their trust in each other and the support of a faithful Englisch friend that Leah and Josiah can find their way through a tangled, dangerous maze to the truth . . . Praise for the series“Realistic, nuanced . . . Perry’s own Pennsylvania Dutch heritage lends a pleasant verisimilitude to the details of Amish life.” —Publishers Weekly“A suspenseful, continually moving plot.” —Fresh Fiction
Marta Perry is a Pennsylvania-based author of over 35 novels, many of them inspirational romances. She uses her rural Pennsylvania life and her Pennsylvania Dutch heritage in writing her books, especially in her Pleasant Valley Amish series for Berkley Books and her new Amish-set suspense series for HQN Books.
Marta and her husband live in a centuries-old farmhouse in a quiet central Pennsylvania valley. They have three grown children and six beautiful grandchildren, and when she's not busy writing her next book, she's usually trying to keep up with her gardening, baking for church events, or visiting those beautiful grandkids.
This book had the least believable romance out of the series. They are constantly suspicious of one another up to even three-quarters of the way through the book when the Morgan family essentially forces a come-to-Jesus meeting to bring all their information together.
Not to mention the short period of time this story takes places over; they STILL throw the love word around like they weren't a woman who is traumatized by her mother's abandonment and a former soldier with PTSD/survivor's guilt.
This is a sweet Amish story with engaging characters and an intriguing plot. The mystery is solved and all is s well. I really enjoy Ms. Perry’s writing. Happy reading!
Marta Perry is one of my far Amish mystery writers. You will love this short story. I was so disappointed when Leah's father doesn't believe his daughter is telling the truth. What is not said is Leah will never trust her father the way she used to. That might make another good story.
This read more like a short story. An Amish girl is accused of stealing a ring from her employer and it goes against their beliefs to hire a lawyer. Her employer's husband has a different reason for the ring being gone.
Marta Perry wrote a short novella in Lost In Plain Site. Leah cleans for different English women. One of them accuses her of stealing a valuable emerald ring. The woman is a Karen type. Leah is of course not guilty and the ring theft is quickly solved.
I’ve always been interested in the Amish, and Perry gives us an in-depth look into the Amish lifestyle through her fantastic novels, while also adding mystery and intrigue. This is a very quick, compelling story concerning Leah as she’s accused of stealing a very expensive ring from one of the women she works for. It’s an intense novella and I really enjoyed the authenticity Perry provides through her research of the Amish lifestyle. While not a murder mystery like the other novels in the Amish Suspense series, this is a wonderful “who-done-it,” casting doubt on multiple characters, including Leah.
Perry is a very talented writer and her story is so compelling that I was draw into it from the very first page. Having read Vanish in Plain Sight, and now this novel, it is obvious that I need to read more of Perry’s work, as she is a fantastic author...
My advice: read this before Murder in Plain Sight, as this happens before that one, chronologically. But if you read them out of order, you're not going to completely lost :)
This was about 61 pages long, fast read usually for me, but I found myself taking my time, truly enjoying this little story. I really love Amish fiction, I find them fascinating and love learning about them. They are really just like us, but with subtle differences. Their faith is so strong, you have to admire that and that might be the main reason I love them.
Being accused of a crime she didn't commit, forces Leah to learn more about Englischers then she ever wanted to know. Standing my her are her brother Abe, his best friend and Leah's crush Josiah and Geneva Morgan. I loved this story, but I beleive Goodreads (or a faithful reader of the series) has this labeled wrong, as it pre-dates Murder in Plain Sight, as there is no Jessica yet, and no mention of Trey or Link. Her husband is dead already, but that is the only thing that is similar in this book.
I am so glad that I found Marta Perry's books. This was a novella that was a perfect sit down and read the entire story at one time kind of read. It was very enjoyable with a little mystery, suspense and romance. An all around good read!
Cute story, I'd give it 3 and a half stars. I like the descriptions of the Amish community, even if the "mysteries" are pretty transparent. The characters are well-described and developed, especially for a short story.
This was a great novella that she could have developed into a complete novel. I just like reading books that carry on with characters from previous stories!
