The events that transpire are heartwarming and will leave you with an euphoria of the miracle of the season. Highly recommend this fantastic Christmas miracle.
Wonderful book by four very talented authors. Each book in this anthology grips at your very soul and has you cheering on each lady to get that one true love when they believe themselves destined to be old maids. Oooohhh don't forget the handsome guys needs some cheering on also for they themselves think that true love will never be for them either but when the sparks start two hearts will burn into one if they can survive the worst blizzard they can recall and even a few outlaws, crooked sheriffs, overbearing neighbors and an incorrigible aunt. I will most definitely be reading other books by these wonderful ladies. Linda Broday has already captured my heart with several other books of hers. Jodi Thomas also has gotten my attention with several of her books. Phyllis Miranda and Dewanna Pace (RIP) have also piqued my curiosity into reading more books by these two great authors. It greatly saddens me that Dewanna Pace is no longer with us and the world will miss out on other wonderful books she may have penned. All four of the stories are sweet and charming and very endearing to ones heart and definitely should be on a readers keeper bookshelf
this was an exceptional book, it had 4 stories in it, and I enjoyed them, and found out all the stories, were related to the previous story, This had a few authors i have read in the past and a new one i have never read. I enjoyed this book , it really makes you get in the Christmas way, with the traditions they have and the way people are so nice and help one another. I was reading this during the christmas season and it was a perfect reading material. highly recommend this book, to make you believe in the magic of christmas.
Amooo... Quero morar no Texas, alguém me adota.. 🤣🤣🤣 Happy reading, and until the next reading..
This anthology had four great short stories by authors I have never read before. One this about historicals would be the build up and then lack of follow through, this was not the case in A Texas Christmas. Having read several great cowboy stories over this year (with very low to low steam rating), I have truly fallen in the love with the west. This excellent book presented four interconnected couples who all live in a small town in Texas. A huge winter storm on Christmas Eve traps the characters into different situations and settings. Since each story is short, I don't want to give too much away.
I loved the first story by Jodi Thomas of childhood friendship turned to love. Sam and Maggie hide out at Sam's ranch while the Sheriff hunts down the men that tried to rob Maggie's store. The two rekindle their friendship and build on it to create something that will last forever.
The second story was one of a gutsy girl named Tess trying to help a train full of passengers along with the one man from town she can't seem to get out of her mind, Sloan Sullivan. Over the course of the storm, Tess proves her grit by working tirelessly to help deliver a baby, feed the passengers, render first aid to a sick man and bring Christmas joy to four orphans. All the while, Sully works just as tirelessly to prove his love to Tess.
The third story broke my heart, but the children proved to not only their mother but their new daddy that love has a way of healing all wounds. Phyllis Miranda delivers a touching story in "Away in a Manger". Randall gives Sarah the one thing should would never dare ask to have for Christmas, a home for her children. In return, Sarah heals Randall's broken heart, mends his family ties and shares her love and her children with him.
The final story was my favorite. "Naughty or Nice" should have been called Naughty and Nice, since Anna was so truly both those descriptions. As a society man, James Elliot III, or Trey as Anna called him, was new to the area and hell bent to prove himself a success to his family. Shunned by her parents, Anna left the east years ago to become a saloon owner and loner. As these two spend time trapped in a Christmas party that doesn't end, they begin to see that what you believe someone to be is not always who they really are.
I highly recommend this Historical Western...Enjoy!
I love the way A Texas Christmas was based on one small Texas Panhandle town and it's countryside during a record white our blizzard during the Christmas holidays. Four seperate authors spun their story of individuals and groups in the community and you go on these seperate little journeys and see how their stories intertwine. There are farmer's, ranchers, a stranded train with it's crew and passengers. A merchant that is robbed and the man that comes to her rescue. A sheriff that's only worried about retiring. An heiress that isn't just a pampered lady thats incapable of grandeur after all. The local bar owner saves a scientist that is injured in middle of no where during the blizzard and they take refuge with dozens of people stranded while attending a Christmas party on a local ranch. You learn all the characters stories and their pasts. Rumors are squashed while people are stranded together and get to know each other better. A young woman and her twins arrive wet and cold at the door of the local livery owner and black Smith and do not make it to their intended destination. There is illness, child births, death as well as happy endings. A great book pulled together by all four authors.

“Contents in A Texas Christmas:
One Wish: A Christmas Story Jodi Thomas…Naughty or Nice DeWanna Pace..The Christmas Bell Linda Broday…Away in the Manger Phyliss Miranda…”
This is a fun mini series of Christmas stories where there's alot of excitement and drama that happens when a blizzard rolls through town a few days before Christmas. Each story was delightful and gave me the fuzzy warmth I want in a sweet holiday historical book.
A charming collection of western Christmas stories. Despite each story being written by a different author, they did a great job of tieing their tales together in the snowy environment of Kasota Springs.
"One Wish" was enjoyable to read and loved the transition of childhood friends to romantic interests. The transition felt realistic and easy to follow. I did feel like the conclusion came on too quickly for my liking though.
"Naughty or Nice" was amusing to read, watching the interactions between a strong-headed woman and a man earning his own standing in a new environment.
"Christmas Bell" seemed to take awhile to get into the connection between the two love interests. Out of the three stories, I felt this was the weakest in terms of showing their developing romance. They barely got to have one-on-one time and the conclusion seemed unrealistic as a result; if our main characters had more encounters, I think I would have been more satisfied.
"Away In A Manager" seems like an odd title to go with when there isn't much connection to the overall story like the other stories were with their titles. Despite this, I quite enjoyed the story. It wasn't just a romance story but a story of what makes a family. Their interactions and time spent together felt genuine; the conclusion of our main characters' relationship (not the story itself) seemed rushed and instantly pushed aside for the sake of tieing in the timeline with the prior story.
Overall, I quite enjoyed this collection of stories and was pleasantly surprised by how they ended up tieing together. Sure, the cover summary states the stories take place in the same town during the same blizzard but I didn't expect much more connection than that. The only other minor issue I have is the book cover - the cowboy pictured seems too modern in comparison to the time period the stories take place.
Often, anthologies are short stories by different authors around one theme (i.e.: Christmas). Here, another theme was added all of the stories took place in and around Kasota Springs, Texas. Thus, the characters and stories were gently interwoven. I felt it added so much!
A CHRISTMAS WISH: Samuel Thompson is part of an unusual clan that doesn't like visitors, questions about their business or spending time in town (Kasota Springs, Texas).
Since the death of her parents, Maggie has run the general store on her own. Samuel and Maggie shared a special friendship during the one year Sam went to school. He feels that he needs to help Maggie because he's overheard men talking about robbing the store and molesting the young woman.
After Sam foils the attempt, he takes Maggie to his isolated home to avoid the ringleader who has vowed to kill them both.
Jodi Thomas entry was a serious disappointment! Thomas has such skill that she enchants the reader from the first page; however, I had some problems with the story:
1) While together, they decide to act as if they are married. (???)
2) The author tells us that both Maggie and Samuel are ostracized by the community. However, she doesn't explain why Maggie would be isolated, except to say she was bossy and controlling. In the story, she shows none of these behaviors.
3) I've read almost all of Thomas books (I'm still looking for 3) and she uses the rules far too often. Another reviewer said that she thought it was to create conflict between characters. I agree.
NAUGHTY OR NICE (DeWanna Pace): This is a lovely story about an outcast saloon-keeper, Anna Ross, who is coming back to Kasota Springs with a wagon-load of liquor.
The year 1877 had one of the most severe blizzards in Texas Panhandle history. Anna is struggling to get home but finds a New England-bred tenderfoot lost in a drift: James Elliott the Third.
THE CHRISTMAS BELL (Linda Broday): Sloan Sullivan owns a ranch near the railroad and notices that the train is stalled due to snow drifts covering the tracks. He loads up supplies and food and takes it to the train riders.
There he finds trouble aplenty: one man has scarlet fever and an extremely-pregnant woman is on board. Tess Whitgrove, the banker's daughter, has been assigned the task of helping the passengers. There's no love lost between Sullivan and Whitgrove. However, there's more work than she can do alone and Sullivan stays on the train.
To prove to the town that she's not just a poor little rich girl, Tess has traveled to bring the new church bell to the town in time for Christmas. If they remain on the tracks, the bell won't arrive in time.
There were 2 oddities about this story:
1) Of course, the pregnant lady has her baby on the train, during the blinding blizzard! During those days, pregnant women did not travel during the last 3 or 4 months. Half the mothers in America lost their lives during childbirth. It was important for a woman to be near the medical help she might need.
2) Why was Tess considered to be a poor little rich girl? In communities, family members of prominent citizens were treated with deference, not condescension!
AWAY IN THE MANGER (Phyliss Miranda): This is my favorite because it really captured the magic of Christmas. The plot was very predictable but charming.
Randall Humphrey is the towns blacksmith; he's just going through the motions of life. The towns major pain-in-the-pants has hired him to make sure her niece plus twins are brought to her as soon as they arrive.
Sensing Sarahs reluctance to stay with her aunt, Rand tells the aunt her relatives will come as soon as they are up from naps. By the time they are awake, the blizzard is at its worst. The 3 stay with Randall in his home.
One Wish - A Christmas Story by Jodi Thomas - Maggie has to hide out at Sam's place after he rescues her from a robbery. Because they are both lonely souls they decide to "pretend" to be married (kissing, touching, etc). This had so much potential but their odd behavior, social awkwardness, just made it weird. Would be great as a longer novel so we got to see the characters grow. 2 stars
Naughty or Nice by Dewanna Price - I couldn't get into the first page.
The Christmas Bell - Luna Broadway Sloan and Tess. She's rich / He's from a poor background. The train gets stuck in a blizzard. He rides in bringing supplies. Then there's a lot of not needed nonsense. Too many side characters. Basic issue they have to over come is he doesn't think he's good enough for her. 1 stars
Away in the Manger- Phyliss Miranda - I couldn't get into. There were lots of references to the folks in the previous stories but after 5 pages I just gave up.
Holiday romance reads set in 1880's Texas, four couples and four HEA's that tie in to each other and all of which share the common theme of never giving up and never failing to grab the chance to be happy when it presents itself.
Like others the first story One Wish by Jodi Thomas stands out but the 3rd story The Christmas Bell for me was just as enjoyable.
Novellas two and four were different examples of how peoples perceptions can be skewed and that family money or reputation does not always matter as much as how one lives life to the best of their ability.
A nice collection with plenty of interesting fictional small town characters whose intertwined lives make up another well rounded reading experience for me from these four authors.
ONE WISH: A CHRISTMAS STORY is about Maggie, who gets threatened in her store by robbers, but Sam comes to her rescue. The story takes off from there with Sam hiding her from the criminals, and Maggie finding out Sam’s secrets.
THE CHRISTMAS BELL is a story about a bunch of strangers stranded on a train in a blizzard just before Christmas. Sully sees the train and brings the firewood, food, etc. from his ranch and Tess tasked with bringing the Christmas Bell to town from Boston shows her kindness, generosity and spirit.
i read this through my local library leaning program. so it is fun to see both by the authors i do enjoy ...does any 1 know why they don't have a whole series ...i find it odd when you wanna read more in a series but that system doesn't have them? wondering why i could inquire with?? fun book cover. sexy dude. good read. i have read JT before ...will always read more soon. bye.
The book contains four sweet romance stories by different authors, who are all new to me. The stories are set in Kasota, Texas during a blizzard in 1887. It's funny to see what some seemingly innocent actions were deemed scandalous back in those days.
A Texas Christmas is a collection of sweet western romances with sexy cowboys and strong western women who love them. All four stories take place in the Texas Panhandle in 1887. I’ve reviewed each story individually below.
In the first story, Sam Thompson needs to head home but he can’t keep his eyes off of Margaret Allison. He can tell she’s in danger but knows with his reputation no one, not even Margaret, will believe him. So he watches her from afar to keep her safe. He’s had eyes only for her since they were kids and she shared a sandwich with him. She’s rich while he’s poor so he knows to keep to himself. Maggie has one wish for Christmas, to find a loving man. When Sam rescues Maggie from three men who try to rob and rape her, he ends up getting shot. Maggie nurses him back to health and discovers she may just get her loving man for Christmas after all.
One Wish: A Christmas Story by Jodi Thomas has Maggie a fiercely independent woman, who may be rich but lets her heart guide her. She wants a man who values the same things she does, love and respect. Sam’s family doesn’t have the best reputation but Sam is a kind and thoughtful man. No one knows it though because he keeps to himself. Watching these two characters fall in love made me smile; they’re truly perfect for each other and you can feel the love they have for each other coming off the pages. I found this to be a perfect western Christmas story.
In the second story, James Elliott III was searching for rosettes when a storm started brewing. He had wandered away from his horse and shelter looking for the flowers and now he’s lost. Meanwhile, Anna Ross has taken her wagon and gone to get her saloon’s whiskey supply when the blizzard flares up. On the way home she spots James, bloody and unconscious in the snow. Taking him into her cart, she finds a shelter from the storm for them and they end up becoming fast friends. James finds out the town scorns Anna’s existence and devises the perfect plan to help her out.
Naughty or Nice by DeWanna Pace has James, a frivolous man who is not typically what you would expect to see in the West. In fact, he’s kind of the Anti-Wild-West, and it’s kind of funny. He has no common sense whatsoever but has a good heart and is smart, just not street smart, if you know what I mean. Anna, on the other hand, is not book smart but she is street smart. She’s not typical for her time either, but she’s strong and self reliant. Watching these two characters, who are polar opposites, find love was both funny and heartwarming. They are proof that opposites do attract.
In the third story, Sloan Sullivan has a bum right leg, from an old injury, which is protesting being out in the snow. He notices the Fort Worth and Denver City Locomotive stuck in the mountain drifts and knows they are going to need wood and supplies for the people inside the train to survive. He gathers things together and takes them to the train. Tess Whitgrove, a passenger on the train, sees Sloan coming with supplies and is overjoyed. The blizzard had made it impossible for her to go for help. She didn’t count on getting stranded on the train with him and discovers she has more than passing feelings for the man.
The Christmas Bell by Linda Broday has Tess, who’s seen Sloan in town but has never spoken with him. Sloan knows Tess has money and thinks she’s too good for him so he stays away from her. Now Tess sees a chance to get to know a man she’s always been fascinated by and decides to pursue him. These two lovers are sweet and romantic. Sloan is a hero who doesn’t know he’s a hero and Tess has a heart of gold. They are perfect together.
In the fourth story, Randle Humphrey wants to be left alone for Christmas. Instead he finds himself babysitting Edwinna’s niece, who is new to town and has two children. Now he realizes he might just be getting the Christmas of a lifetime.
Away in the Manger by Phyliss Miranda has Rand and Sarah, who are a very unlikely couple. Sarah is a proper lady who has two children. She doesn’t have a husband so it’s been difficult for her. Rand is a man who’s always lived life his way; he doesn’t care what other people think. Watching Sarah and her children bring love into his life was beautiful.
I enjoyed reading A Texas Christmas; it was a great anthology and is a book I will be keeping on my shelf. It’s the perfect holiday romance and made me smile.
