This book is dreadfully written that in order to save my sanity I had to quit in the middle of the 5th chapter. I wanted to quit in the 1st chapter but I thought it had to get better. It didn't. I suspect the author published a first draft without even so much as re-reading it herself or having someone else read it first. It is just that awful.

First of all, the prologue is confusing. Horribly so.

Secondly, how stupid is it for Our Heroine to put on her make up while driving the exprressway during morning rush hour? That told me right off this was not a character whose judgement could be trusted which put me right off.

Thirdly, the author seems to be completely unaware that when one character stops speaking and a second character starts, the second character gets her own paragraph. I just hate it when authors make me guess whom is saying what.

Fourthly, the author has no idea how to use the comma. There is no excuse for a writer of the English language to fail to use the comma properly. When one character address another by name or an endearment at the beginning of the sentence, the name or endearment is followed by a comma. When one character address another by name or endearment in the middle of a sentence the name or endearment is surrounded by commas. When one character address another by name or endearment at the end of a sentence, the name or endearment is preceded by a comma. The author made these mistakes over and over and over.

Fifthly the author is verbose. "Coming from a family that had a huge potential of being overweight..." That is just plain lazy writing. She could have easily chosen to say "Coming from a family with a tendency to be overweight..."

Sixthly, in the above example "of being" is wrong so wrong. The gerund is not the correct form of the verb in this sentence. She need to use the infinitive.

Seventhly, there were so many awkward sentences. "The woman's face was a rich cocoa brown in complexion and flawless." That sentence implies the only part of the woman's body that was a rich coca brown was her face and that the rest of her body was some other color. Far less confusing to say instead "The woman's complexion was flawless and her skin color a rich coca brown."

Eightly, there were sentences that made no sense. "She threw the cordless phone down and snatched off the black suede dress." What did she snatch that black suede dress off of? The phone? Because that is what that sentence says. Incidentally not two pages later that dress is no longer suede by velvet Sloppy, sloppy.

Ninthly, the paragraphing is often incorrect. New paragraphs often start in the middle of sentences.

Tenthly, there is no such word as "Im." Apostrophes and quotation marks are missing from too many sentences to quote.

By the fifth chapter, I had had enough. If an author does not know the fundamentals of the English language and feels called to write, then that author owes it to the reading public to hire a good editor. IAll authors need a good editor. An author who does not use an editor has no business publishing.

Shawna Hill asked me if I would review her books, and I am so glad she did! Have you ever read her books before? If you haven't, you really should! If she hadn't contacted me, I would have really missed out on reading her awesome work!

Savannah and Kevin seemed so right for each other. There was just a feeling that Savannah had though that kept coming up. She just felt like something wasn't quite right. She wasn't the only one that saw it either, but she wanted to make things work. Yeah...about Kevin....he had someone from his past try to get back with him--Naomi. He just couldn't decide between Savannah (the good girl) or Naomi (the freak). He wanted both of them, but finally he made his decision. The woman he let go wasn't going to let go so easy though.

Kevin made me so mad sometimes. I just wanted to tell him to stop with all of the women. Just settle down with one and be happy. When you are reading a book like this you just want to tell the characters, come on, don't you see what is going on. Naomi...I don't even want to talk about her. You have to read the book to see for yourself who she is!

I highly recommend this book! I was just so impressed by this first book from Shawna Hill! I can definitely say that it was a page turner and kept my interest thoughout the whole book. You will not be bored at all when you read this! At the end though I was like what, that's the end! It definitely left me on the edge of my seat and ready to get started on the next book Intimate Illusions, which I will be reviewing tomorrow!

Precision Reviews Series Sunday pick is In Between Lies, the first book in the tentatively titled Naomi series by Shawna Hill. Fresh from a broken engagement, Savannah has sworn off men. She needs a break before entering a new relationship. That is until she meets sexy weatherman/nightclub owner Kevin. Despite warnings from best friends, Savannah finds herself letting her guard down and falling in love with the player. Little does she know, there is a woman from Kevin's past named Naomi that desperately wants him back. Naomi will do anything to claim Kevin as her man again.

This is the debut novel to a drama-filled, erotic romance series. Author Shawna Hill's writing style is easy to follow. Despite my sensitive eye to mechanical errors in the text, I was still lost in the realistic story line. In Between Lies is not your typical romance. The scenes are just as hot as the cover portrays. Twists in the plot, fatal attraction moments, and a jaw-dropping cliffhanger clearly separates it from the rest in its genre. Thank goodness I had the sequel readily available to continue the story.

In Between Lies was a awesome beginning for Shawna Hill. You may think this book resembles a typical love story but what Mrs. Hill brings to the table is more twist and turns your body can handle. Your sense of style is expressed in between the lines as she writes on two characters that suddenly fall for each other after agreeing to be platonic. Even though their love seems to flow harder then expected they press forward to try to stay together. Despite a unstable women who turns out to be more then just a simple crush. When she tries to knock everyone down in the process of obtaining her love you wonder how in the world will all this drama end? You got to read this.

From start to finish I swam through deep rivers of lies, and revengeful love. I was complety surprised by the webs of mass destruction that were weaved in and out of this story. Her story is filled with different attitudes and characters. It was so diverse but yet keeping it so real. I had two favorite characters in this story, Naomi and Jasmine. Ah I absolutely love Jasmine’s quick witted attitude with just the right amount of “hood” to her that made it sexy. And Noami, um um um, that thing is so sexy. Its crazy, I think this is the first time that I actually had a crush on a character from a book.. But she is a force to be reckoned with.. Approach with extreme caution… This was truly a fun and exciting read. I could not put it down.

When I started reading I found myself rolling my eyes and feeling like the story was something I had seen before. I felt like I knew exactly how the story would go and expected to be bored. While I didn't connect with the characters, I found that I was completely wrong and this is not a predictable read. It reminds me of one of those Real-Word of [insert city here] where you don't necessarily like the housewives but the drama and craziness is so addictive, you tune in because you can't help it. I thought of it as a train-wreck that I couldn't take my eyes from (not the writing but the plot). If you give this one a try, stick through the first 60 pages or so. You'll be pleasantly surprised. Read this one if you just can't help but like drama and craziness.

In Between Lies is a love story of sorts. Savannah Summers is a successful, independent woman...with her guard up. She's been burned before and is not in a hurry to dive back into the dating scene. When she meets weather man, Kevin Styles, he's like a breath of fresh air. Is it possible that a man can be attractive, successful, and decent?

Shawna Hill did a splendid job developing these characters. You know what makes them tick and their motivations...while they may be transparent to the reader, when dealing with eachother - they have no idea! I was able to picture the characters and the story in my mind, which is a very good thing!

The sequel Intimate Illusions picks up right where In Between Lies left off...fantastic!

How about no stars for this one. I can't believe anyone gave it more than 1. The language is immature. Maybe this was meant to be street lit, excuse me, I meant urban fiction. This book was free to me but I think the writer somehow owes me money for my time wasted.

This book passes it self off as a love/suspense novel. Think the movie A Think Line Between Love and Hate. It has the nerve to end with a set up for a sequel. WHY?

I’d like to give it a 3.5 ⭐️ rating. This turned out to be pretty decent. It was slow going in the beginning but when the author really got into it, it was good. My biggest complaint is that the ending was rushed

Combination with an explosion

In this story, we have Savannah, a successful career woman who has been hurt by love before. She cautiously enters into a relationship with Kevin, a handsome weather reporter from the local news. Kevin seems like the perfect guy, but of course he's hiding a secret: namely his ex, a crazy, stalkerish woman named Naomi. Even though Kevin is happy with Savannah, he can't resist slipping back into Naomi's bed.

This was a typical crazy-woman-stalks-man-and-his-new-woman story, but there were a few twists and turns along the way. It started off a bit slow and it took me awhile to warm up to the characters of Savannah and Kevin, (also there were quite a few grammatical errors that made the teacher in me cringe) but the story line did keep me on the edge of my seat and wanting to find out just what would happen next. I enjoyed the cliffhanger ending and I look forward to reading the next installment in this series, to see what crazy Naomi will do next.
