Rate this book
Magic is a rare gift, and with two masteries on his sleeve, Dominai finally feels like he’s getting a grasp of it. With his confidence in his own abilities increasing every day, Dom feels ready to tackle his first official assignment. If Arlon would ever give him one, that is.

But the Grandmaster is keeping his wizards close at hand, and not just because rumors about Olbric’s personal life have started leaking out of the Crux’s walls and into the new Cairish ambassador’s ears. Fear and mistrust of magic and the people who create it has started to circulate through Straetham, adding to the tension that already lays thick over the city in the aftermath of the attack on the town square.

Yet Olbric and Dom have an idea that might help restore the common people’s confidence in the Crux: a tournament. A display of magic and skill to show the people of Straetham who is working to safeguard the kingdom from the threat of Diran Barclay and his rogue wizards.

And when Dominai offers himself up as the prize to the winner, the game is on.

The third book of Alethea Faust’s epic Sex Wizards series, Championship delivers risk-aware consensual kink, new rivalries, growing political tensions, and a whole lot of butt stuff.

I really liked the first couple books in this series and was so excited for this book to be released. It's such an interesting concept, this sex wizardry, and I love how inclusive and open everyone is.

However, I didn't end up enjoying this book as much as the others. I think what took it down a notch for me was the angst level; I was worried for most of the book about what Thaddeus was up to and it still wasn't resolved. At this point he's definitely been set up to be a character that does questionable if not perhaps villainous things, and I'm just waiting for that other shoe to drop. And that is probably my least favorite way to go through a story; I hate how uncomfortable it makes me feel.

There were less steamy scenes this time around too, and it's not necessarily a bad thing, but again, what drove the story instead really took the enjoyment away for me. The scenes we did get were good for the most part, except again, where Thaddeus was concerned. I hated that chapter. I hated basically any scene with him in it really.

I think adding Olbric's grappling with gender was a nice touch. This series is all about representation, and the evolution of Dom making him dress feminine as a humiliation tactic to Olbric being honest with his feelings about it was great. I like how their relationship grew in this story, and talking about having a loving relationship within the bounds of a group of people who very openly have sexy times with many people. It added another layer that I liked.

The ending left me pretty unsatisfied. I'm really upset about the separation of certain characters for a long period. I'm not happy with how everything went down around the mission, and how it could play out for key characters. I definitely want to read the next book to find out what happens, but I really hope it's less angsty because I really loved this series.

Back at it again as the Sex Wizards saga continues, and honestly I’m just glad I’m along for the ride.

📚𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲: Fantasy erotica

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: In the third book of this trilogy, Dom offers himself up as a prize for a wizarding tournament, and the clan continues to grow while chasing down rogue wizards.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: Championship was a continuation of the great writing we’ve come to love with this series.

I loved the addition of Olbric’s POV in this book, and the journey he is on for this entire book. I adore how Faust allows each character, not just Dom, to create long lasting relationships. And I’m happy with the pacing of the story overall - alone I’ve read about 1,200 pages of Sex Wizards and I’m still just as into it as page one.

🔮 𝗙𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘆 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝗲: At this point, it’s like second nature. It may have been a bit challenging at first, but I’ve got it down pat and you will too.

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 4.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 5/5 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶

There are definitely parts of this series that I struggle with. I don’t like Brigette and Thaddius was horrible in this book. But I loved Olbric’s journey and I love his relationship with Dom. Can’t wait for the next book!

Now that I know there will be a part 4 and 5 I am happy.

Never ever did I assume I would be this invested in the underlying story and the Charakters personal stories. But here I am xD

Also reading this part 3 is a string of moments going "oh this is not my kink ..or is it?!" xD

I received an arc for an honest review.

Book Three of the Sex Wizards series sees Dominai learning a new school of magic by helping Olbric with his transmutation mastery.

The author smashed it out of the ball park with this one. Another five star read! My review is chaotic word vomit, because all I have in me is physical stimming with how happy this book makes me.

This book has everything! Kink based magic (and the kink is well represented), lgbtq+, POC, mental health representation. Each chapter has a description of the type of magic being used, and any addition content warnings that are required. There are several POV changes throughout the book that dive deeper into the thoughts and feelings of the main characters, Dominai and Olbric. The author puts so much research and care into this story and the characters to ensure that all representation is on point, I have so much respect for her! I will continue to shout this author's praises from the rooftops! Another successful book, and I can't wait for Book 4- Odyssey.

If you made it this far in my review I have a warning: there is a baby cliffhanger at the end of the book, but it was required considering Book 3 & 4 were originally one big book. The author had to split them up! The cliffhanger is placed at a really good point, so I'm not mad at all. :)

So, let me start this out by saying that anyone who knows me, knows how obsessed with this series I am. Championship is no exception. Altethea continues the story of the wizards of the Crux with added goodies of a dual POV. I love Dominai, but it was so amazing to get Olbric’s story in this one as well. It added so much depth to his character and the journey he went on really put me in my feels (the good kind of feels). One of the biggest strengths of this series is its heart. Every character is crafted with such detail (even the villains) that I want to know about each and every one of them. Every time I pick up one of these books I say to myself “there’s absolutely no way she comes up with new spicy stuff after what she wrote in the last one” and of course I’m proved wrong. Every scene is so clever that I’m left wanting more and more of these wizards and their spells!

Side note the Grandmaster Daddy Arlon content we get in this is *chef’s kiss*

I eagerly await Book 4 🤩

Oh my everloving.. okay so this book is not as spicy or kinky as book 2 but what it has a lot of is plot, emotions, character growth... I am in love with these characters and the way this entire group has grown in this book!!!! Dom is becoming more himself and learning more about everyone around him and how they relate to him. Arlon is really starting to set Dom up for success and pushing him to be his best self... there is a horrible cliffy ending but it's really not overly cliffy but it is though... we learn much more about olbrics past and family and why olbric is at the crux. We also learn more about thaddius and his past and family while the crux is still dealing with diran.

Something about Arlon and Doms relationship in book 2 just HIT for me. And while this book is still amazing it just fell short for me. I don’t understand why I’m not into Doms and Olbrics relationship more. I really loved Olbrics self discovery journey though. Plus Dom on a Sybian for a trophy was so fun.

I was lucky enough to buddy read this with Mads (@laceandlit) and WOW was this book a ride. First of all, Alethea has all but consumed me with this world that they have created. A k!nky, poly magical system - all I want is to be a wizard there. I truly cannot recommend this series enough. This is Book 3 in the Sex Wizards Series and let me tell you we get everything we have been missing and yearning for with all of our favorite characters from the previous 2 books! And on top of that, those 🔥 scenes were EVERYTHING I needed and more…specially one trio 😏

What I (and Mads) LOVED:
🖤 DOLBRIC.
🖤 "I love you."
🖤 The Tournament…WOW
🖤 Olbric's POV.
🖤 Exploration of Identity.

That ending left me LONGING for the next book. Like legitimately I will be IMMEDIATELY diving into it when it releases.

If you haven’t read Initiation and Mastery yet, PLEASE DO. Then jump RIGHT into this one 😏🔥

Came for the smut, stayed for the story....

Gah, I can't believe the next book isn't out yet! Is the waiting game a kind of torture you enjoy inflicting on your readers, Alethea?

This book was as steamy as the two previous ones, but the story really stands on its own feet now. First, a really cool tournament with awesome magic, then the political pressure amps up, there's potentially a spy in the Crux, and lastly an ending that is the start of a quest. All this while Diran is still a threat and definitely planning something! Can you understand why I need to keep reading?

In this book we also get parts from Olbric's pov, which was unexpected, but worked really well! My heart goes out to him. I may even have cried a tiny bit. Call me emotional, whatever.

Still a massive fan. My only issue with this book was the scene with Thaddius after the championship. To have hypno as a kink represented only by someone who’s clearly supposed to be a bad guy, wasn’t enjoyable for me. But I understand it had to happen, as part of the story. I sincerely hope Dom will have and take the opportunity to explore hypno again with a caster he can trust. I’d hate for Thaddius to be the only representation of this specific kink. Other than that, still loving the series!

Transitional, less kinky, frankly, but a little more fraught. I was actually invested in the primary relationship? I will probably read the next one when it comes out next month. I need something cleaner to cleanse my palate first tho, LOL

There are things I love about this book and things that I really did not like about this. I absolutely love Olbric’s gender journey and getting to see that development was fantastic. It fits so well for the character and the way it was described in the book felt very realistic and easy to connect to. Spoilers —- Also I’m not gonna lie I completely agree with Olbric that it makes no sense why Dom is being sent on a very important mission when he literally sucks at fighting. ——

I absolutely adore most of the characters in the story and I love the premise but this one did not work for me.
One of the main things I hate about these books is that it constantly leaves you feeling unsatisfied and unfinished. The first book wasn’t as bad but the second and third books felt like they were ending in a really weird place. There was no real resolve and it just leaves you with no real finish to the plot points brought up throughout the story. Especially with Thaddeus and many other major angst points throughout the series there was no real developments or finishes to any of it. As much as it pains me to say it it felt like there wasn’t really much development in this book. It was building up to several things and then it never was realized which makes it very disappointing at the end.
I also really didn’t like the scene between Thaddeus and Dom. They were part of the story where it seemed like Thaddeus was remorseful or caring but then immediately overshadowed by horrible actions and just overall being a jerk. There is no confrontation or discussion about what went down between them. It is just left as some thing that happened and I was expecting either a resolution or some form of connection in the book back to what happened.

Overall I really loved the first book in the series. I liked the second one but I did not like the third as much.

Championship by Alethea Faust
☀️☀️☀️⛅ (3.5 rounded down)

▪️The continuation of this series has been entertaining to read, with great strides taking in the emotional building of the characters throughout
▪️ Structurally it was similar to the previous book, feeling like it was two distinct parts rather than a wholly continuous story. Like last time, I felt it was a bit odd to read and wish it flowed better between significant plot points
▪️It was interesting to get a new characters perspective, particularly relating to Olbric's internal conflicts, but the switching of perspectives mid chapter was confusing and, at times, irritating. I think it would have been much more effective to keep the swapping between chapters only
▪️This story focused less on the magical theory than in previous books, but the widening scope of this series will definitely need greater detail on that in upcoming installments
▪️This unassuming series has maintained its ability to capture my attention and still uses its creative premise to the best of its ability; I'm definitely going to continue on with future books in the series!

"Growing up in Cairish has given me a very narrow view of who women were allowed to be. They were sisters until they became wives and then wives until they became mothers.....[and] it wasn't until I was confronted with being viewed as a woman myself that I realised......I had internalized the women in my life as being...lesser."

this series is amazing!!
Brilliant narration by Blake Lockhart.
So good to be back at the Crux!
Alethea Faust does it again with another exciting, magical, and spicy installment of Sex Wizards!
In this story, we definitely get to see more of the feelings between the residents of the Crux, as well
As their internal emotions and struggles. We see the pressure Arlon feels being the head Master, the struggles of the wizards who’s been captured, and Garrett’s struggles after the events of book two. We also get a lot of background and thoughts from Olbric (my favorite character!!) who is struggling with parts of his identity, scars from his past, and feelings of jealousy. As he and Dom grow closer, Olbric has to confront how he feels to be honest with himself and his lover.
When Concassi and Olbric are trying to work out a spell, a genius of an idea occurs: a magical tournament for the residents of the Crux with one amazing prize: a night with Dom! Both Cass and Olbric are convinced they’ll win, but when an unexpected and dangerous competitor joins, everyone is on edge. The battles are exciting and unexpected, and I loved this part of the book!
I love how Alethea combines really emotional scenes with action, politics, magic, and so much spice! These books have something for everyone!
-Sex based magical system
-A magical tournament
-Struggles with gender and sexuality
-Hurt/comfort
-Poly and pan characters
-K!nks galore!!!

I still love these books and I will keep reading them. However, the reason I rated this one lower than the first two, is because I need some conflicts to be resolved.
It didn't necessarily felt dragged out, but also... it felt dragged out. I don't want to get into it to much, because I don't wanna spoil it for anybody. Proceed with caution.

The Diran situation

The Diran situation just doesn't progress enough for me, but the end of the book makes me very excited for the next and I hope we will see some great resolution or at least confrontation in the future.

The Thaddius situation

This dude just makes me uncomfortable, because I cannot place him. Is he just meant to be somewhat "icky" and not completely trustworthy? Is he misunderstood? Or is he actually a bad guy and is going to show his true colors soon? I don't know and I can't handle it.

The love situation

I'm not gonna say anything. Just that I'm happy that the story evolved from a sex story to a love story. 💕

Also small addition. Still hate the word "slit" for anything ✨female anatomy✨
That's all, folks.

frustrating

It’s frustrating because the book isn’t *bad* but it just doesn’t have a good timeline. There is no climax. The author really needs to lay out the entire story (all books) and reevaluate how she has divided this story.

ARC Review
*I read Books 1&2 of this series on my own and LOVED them, and was lucky enough to join the ARC team for book 3*

If you're looking to read this book but haven't read the first two books in the series, you should stop here and read them immediately. This book won't make sense without the context you get from the first two, but they're delightful. Please read the content warnings - this author makes them incredibly accessible.

This series continues to get better with each installment. I absolutely adore the world that the author has created and the characters she has written, who continue to grow and evolve with each book. This book focuses a lot on the growing relationship between two of our characters, which is incredibly touching and more on the romance side of things than is present in the first two books. It wasn't originally what I was looking for in this series, to be honest, but I ended up enjoying how everything came together.

This book also starts to demonstrate more of how magic can be used, and how spells can be created through different sexual acts. I LOVED this - this magic system is so unlike anything that I've read before that seeing the characters use spells blew my mind open in the best way. I think I had been reading and understanding what was written, but the tournament scenes specifically really let my imagination run wild.

Another aspect of this installment of the series that I loved was the exploration of gender identity for one of the main characters. As part of this, we get an alternate POV for the first time in the series, which threw me for a loop the first time, but I started relying on it as they delved deeper into their feelings on gender. The representation in the book around the entire process of exploring one's identity was well done - the nerves of coming out, the exhaustion of having to come out over and over, the absolute terror of new experiences - all of it was emotive and heart wrenching. The other characters in the story are nothing but supportive, in so many different ways, which added to the found family vibes.

While all of this sounds like nothing but good vibes, this book actually had some bits that were somewhat hard to read because I don't like bad things to happen to the characters I love, but it did certainly deepen the intrigue. (Again, there are content warnings on EACH chapter, so don't skip the chapter headings!) AND I won't lie that a couple of pieces of the story have me nervous for some heartbreak and strife in the fourth book. But, I'm very excited for Odyssey! Nothing will keep me away from this series.

If you are a fan of diverse characters, intriguing fantasy-epics, and healthy portrayals of kinky activity… this is the book for you!!
(Obviously I recommend reading Initiation and Mastery before this book!!)

This book had me screaming!! I have more questions and worries than when I started the book!! Ugh Alethea you are killing me here with all these unanswered questions… I need more content right now ugh!! 😭
I am usually not a fan of dual POVs, but I think it works very well in this book! Seeing things from Olbric’s perspective made me so happy!!
This book is full of surprises and I really enjoyed that we got to see more wizards interacting in the Crux and their various connections to one another.
Although the spicy in this book didn’t top the spice that was in Mastery for me, it did bring lots of new perspectives and plays to the table that I found to be really intriguing!!
Overall I absolutely love this book and I adore Dom with my entire being!!

~Side note: There is a character in this book that I have very mixed feelings about and it’s stressing me out so much because I can’t get a good read on them at all… but that just goes to show how amazing Alethea’s writing and character development/depth is!!

~Side note Pt. 2: I LOVE ARLON!! 🥰 This is unrelated to my thoughts on this specific book, but I just love him and wanted to let the world know that.

With that said, I can’t wait for the next book in the Sex Wizards series!! I need these loose ends to be tied!! I’m so excited and anxious at the same time!! I hope everyone who reads Championship (and the other Sex Wizards Books) loves everything about it like I do!! ☺️
As always, happy reading! 🏆

As usual, I found the representation in this series to be excellent, and I enjoyed most of the erotic scenes. However, this one wasn't quite as much of a win for me as the previous installments.

The overarching series plot is that the rogue wizards that have been troubling the characters since book one are still at large. They do end up getting some new information about them, and the next book plans to go on a mission to find out more information and possibly confront some enemies. The smaller plots in this book are Olbric and Dom's relationship growth (which I really enjoyed, I like them together), a wizarding championship that serves several purposes (both to gain good will with the local non-magical people and to create a new spell for Olbric's transmutation mastery), and some nefarious characters such as Thaddius, a fellow wizard who does some really uncomfortable stuff to Dom (though Dom definitely put too much trust in him based on his past actions) and an ambassador from Olbric's homeland that seems to have a source in the Crux giving him personal information to use against him.

There is also the return of some characters we've enjoyed in the past, and Olbric's POV is used including his exploration of his gender identity and more information about his homeland. There is quite a bit of angst, especially toward the end when the reader has information the characters do not and you're just waiting with bated breath for it to blow up in their faces. I'm very disappointed that it seems like Dom and Olbric will be separated in the next book, and Dom with be at the mercy of Thaddius who clearly has it out for him, both on a minor and major scale. My least favorite part is that everyone else seems to trust him completely and Dom just takes his abuse lying down. I really hope the next book isn't just a travel montage, as that would be pretty underwhelming.

The tournament itself was probably my second favorite part, I loved how the battles were described and the relationship growth that Dom and Olbric went through as a result. My favorite scene was definitely the second half of Olbric's mastery; super titillating and I also really want to see what that spell they created during it does. The Thaddius chapter was properly trigger warning-ed and I wasn't triggered by it, I just hated it immensely. I don't think that it was necessary to go that far to show how potentially evil Thaddius is; what happened makes my skin crawl.

Regardless, I'm still looking forward to future installments; will just have to trust the author to avoid the potential pitfalls I see in the future.

As with all of Alethea's work, Championship is a beautifully thought out merging of kink, magic, plot, and relationship building. The result is a rich and moving story filled with compelling characters, poignant moments, and lots of gorgeously written smut.

Full review below!

Things are going... A little better at the Crux. One of the few safe places in Straetham for wizards to practice, the Crux is the home for many wizards, though things have been rough for a while. Recent events have left the non-magical folks in town wary of wizards, and they're taking that as gracefully as they can. For Dominai and Olbric, that means staying fairly isolated, which gives them a lot of time to work on more complex castings. When Olbric comes to Dom with a desire to perform a casting that will transmute iron to gold, Dom is more than happy to help. When the first attempt does not produce the effect Olbric wanted, they recruit the grandmaster, Arlon, to help them make this casting a success. To make this casting truly work, Dominai's value must be elevated to the rank of grand prize, inspiring a tournament to win him for the evening.
Everything goes swimmingly, until the King wants to attend the tournament, bringing with him a host of political players. Unfortunately, one of these happens to be Feisal, an ambassador from Cairish, Olbric's insular homeland. Feisal's presence at the tournament, and later throughout the novel, proves to be a problem for Olbric's personal and professional growth.
In the midst of the tournament planning, Arlon has something else he must plan: an assignment to transport magiline to one of the Crux's sister academies. In light of the crown's loss of trust in the Crux and its wizards, the Grandmaster is forced to source another form of transportation and protection for the valuable resources he is sending, both human and not.
The third chapter in the Sex Wizards series is well worth the read, so enjoyable and worth every moment.
