Fans of Vampirina and the Princess in Black series will love Isadora Moon: half-fairy, half-vampire, totally unique--and totally ready for her first sleepover!
When Isadora is invited to stay at her friend Zoe's house, she's so excited. Isadora has never been to a sleepover before! They're going to bake cakes, eat midnight snacks, and have endless magical giggles together. They may just have to stay up all night to fit it all in!

Harriet Muncaster studied illustration at Norwich University College of the Arts before going on to get an MA in children’s book illustration at the Cambridge School of Art. In creating the art for her first book for children, she was thrilled to have found a good outlet for her lifelong fascination with miniatures. She lives in Hertfordshire, England.
4.5 STARS I adore these Isadora Moon books! They are so charming and fun. The illustrations are full of the most darling details that always make me smile. The stories are well-written, the characters all feel well-drawn.
This book is as much about baking as it is about sleepovers. Wish there had been a picture of that beautiful cake on the cover :-) So, that was a nice surprise as my children love to be in the kitchen. Muncaster has such an understanding of children's emotions. Isadora's tug-of-war emotions, her desire to win her class's baking contest, be a good friend and tay true to what she knows is right (even when her friend is doing something wrong) is handled with sensitivity and the "lesson" never feels didactic.
It is time for friendship + cake! Also being honest.
I was so excited when the library FINALLY had a new book in this series in their collection (and in English even). It has been a while since they added a new book in the series and I have been seeing new books pop up on the twitter of the author.
In this one we have a fun contest in which our kids can win tickets to the finale for a baking show that is all the rage. Well, if you have a tv. 😛 Poor Isadora whose parents just don’t understand you sometimes want to watch something fun on a tv. But she is all eager to make a cake and she is happily doing that with her best friend. And that asks for her first sleepover! I loved the sleepover and seeing the girls have tons of fun. Of course, where there is Isadora.. there is magic. And that is what happens a lot in this one. Good and bad magic. I loved what she did for her friend, though I don’t think I would ever want my plushies to come alive. But those wings? LOVE IT! And where can I get a floaty bed?
Then the cake baking happens, and while I was delighted with it (as it was a gorgeous cake) I was also a bit angry that they used magic. Though thankfully Isadora knows what is happening is wrong, and tries to talk to her friend. I am glad that she learned from what happened with her niece in one of the previous books. I am glad that her dad was there to give her some extra motivation, because she did need that.
So yeah, I wasn’t a fan of Zoe in this one. I can understand why she did it, but if your best friend says something… respect that.
It was a bit predictable though, which was a shame. While I knew that they would come clean, I would have loved to see someone else win.
The art was once again very adorable and fun, and I still love it is only pink/grey black as colours.
All in all, I can’t wait until the library gets the missing books and also the new books as they come out. Despite some stuff, I still would recommend this one.
This is a fun story about Isadora having a sleepover with a human and figuring out how much its okay to use her magic. She brings her friends stuffed animal to life, but they also are entering a baking competition and she uses her magic to make it even better. However, then her conscience comes in and says thats cheating and they need to do the right thing, but her friend doesn't agree. I liked being able to talk with my kids about what they'd do and how to come back from a lie.
Isadora Moon is "half vampire, half fairy, totally unique." This is the second book in the series I have read but there are many others. No prior knowledge of the others is required.
First thing to say is that the other book in the series I read was hardback with silver gilt edges to the pages whereas this one is paperback with no hardback currently available. As far as first impressions go the hardcover with the silver-edged pages is better. But this still has a good cover which is typical of the series, a cute black and white and pink picture, which includes glitter elements, on the front. The "enchanting pink and black pictures" continue throughout making it a similarly attractive experience if you flick through the pages. The art is cute and fluffy and pink and you can see just by looking at it why it appeals to young girls.
The story sees Isadora's class holding a baking competition that has to be done in pairs. The prize for the winning pair is tickets to the final of popular TV series "Sponge and Sprinkles", a TV show which is surely inspired by the Great British Bake Off. Zoe suggests to Isadora that they should be partners and they could have a sleepover at Zoe's house too whilst also making the cake. Isadora explains the concept of a sleepover to her vampire dad: "You get to stay up all night and have a midnight feast!" Her vampire dad replies, "Oh. That just sounds like my normal life." And this sort of exchange is part of what made this book good for me, the comparison of humans against Isadora's vampire and fairy household and the differences between them, without any prejudice involved.
Zoe and Isadora make the cake but Isadora uses magic to make a quite brilliant cake. She feels guilty about it and is torn over what to do. "We made our cake for the competition but we used my magic wand to make it look really incredible. And now... if we win, it will only be because we cheated. And it won't be fair on the others. I don't know what to do, because Zoe really wants to enter the cake, but I don't think we should." So there is a moral dilemma element to the story too which in the end teaches children what they should do in a situation like this.
After the story there is an extra activity section which is themed to the book with a cake recipe, a story telling guide (it's always good to encourage young readers' imaginations) and a cake-themed quiz.
In terms of the story you can't complain and girls should love it.
Molto interessante e curiosa come storia!
¿Conocíais a Isadora?
Očakávala som síce niečo iné, no bolo to celkom fajn.
Isadora Moon is going to her best friend Zoe's house for her very first sleepover! It isn't all fun and games, however-the girls have to work together to make a cake for their school's baking competition! When they get a little carried away using Isadora's magic to make the cake extra special, Isadora starts to doubt if it is really fair to submit their magically-improved creation into the contest at their human school.
Another great addition to the sweet Isadora Moon series. I enjoy the twist on the traditional realistic fiction first chapter book. The only difference between these titles and other everyday school adventures is that Isadora's mom is a fairy and her dad is a vampire-but those changes are enough to make this series hold its own.
I liked it because Isadora Moon was going to her first sleepover at her friend Zoe's house. They were going to make a cake for a baking contest in their class at school. The prize was tickets to see a TV show called Cake and Sprinkles. Zoe wanted to make their cake using magic so they would win. Isadora decided they should make a cake without magic too. Zoe submitted the cake with magic and they won. Isadora was mad at Zoe at first for cheating, but then Zoe told the teacher and Isadora was happy even though they lost the tickets.

The 9th in Harriet Muncaster’s self-illustrated fantasy series for children aged 6+ is a decidedly pink and sparkly affair about friendship and what to do if you think that your friend wants you to do something wrong. It’s a very girly book but that’s no bad thing and I think that there’s plenty here for children to relate to – and I did like the magically alive monkey and pink rabbit.
Mission Muncaster #9 Isadora Moon #9 Isadora Moon returns and this is similar in theme to a couple of other books in the series about being honest and not letter peer pressure make you do something wrong. A good yarn though, and we got a mention of our friendly ghost in passing but still it was a mention and he has not vanished from the face of the earth!
Isadora Moon is half fairy and half vampire, and full of honesty in this book. Not only is there a big lesson in telling the truth, but there's lots of cake!
