Pamela Beasant, originally from Glasgow, now lives and works in Stromness, Orkney. In 2007, she was appointed as the first George Mackay Brown Writing Fellow. Running with a Snow Leopard is her first full-length collection of poetry.
Originally from Glasgow, Pamela studied English at Oxford University. After working in London, she moved to Orkney, where she has lived ever since, working as a freelance writer and editor amongst other jobs, including care worker, books editor for The Orcadian, and currently as arts officer for the local council. In 2007 she was awarded the first George Mackay Brown Writing Fellowship in Orkney, and later became chair of the organization, which runs the Orkney Book Festival.
Pamela has such a deft way with words, they feel effortless but that's the mark of great skill.
Outstanding are "Haunted" (Sometimes I try to die the death you faced; but can't rehearse the long, black thing, or free you to it, shadow puppet dancing in an artificial light.) and "Betrayal" (worse than a clean wound).
Lose yourself in her poetry, see the world afresh, hold her words close to you.
The only poems that didn't resonate for me were some that spoke of cliffs crumbling, I felt I missed the significance of those.
Can't wait to read more from Ms Beasant's rich pen.
