The book chronicles the spontaneous movement that swept Benigno Noynoy Aquino III to the forefront of the latest wave of People Power. It is a collective memoir of those involved in the movement for reform—members of the academe, fellow Cory Veterans, community organizers and former street parliamentarians.
I just saw this book at the checkout counter in a local college library on my first day at work as a library staff...
It started telling the tales of Noy's parents (Ninoy and Cory) on their struggle against the Marcos admin... and leaving a legacy for Noy to continue.
The book is an account of how Noy accepted to run for president, then how the campaign went through in every region... and follows the victory to proclamation and the effects of the first 100 days in office.
It focuses on Noy's integrity above all else to become a president.
The book also introduces many names that helped Noy in the campaign that would lead to introducing another person, that would be described in a single paragraph, it is kinda confusing. I think the author's style in writing can be improved. It was like reading newspaper clippings pasted on the book, not so coherent. Another thing is some of the passages are just repeating, as in word by word. It would be better if the author paraphrased it instead.
The book also shows that, the platforms of Noy are not his own ideas, but of certain individuals in Noy's group.
if there is 1986 and 2001 People Power Revolution, there was a People's Campaign in 2010.
When I heard the word NoyNoy, it remains in my mind the slogan "Walang korap, walang mahirap" (no corrupt, no poverty). In this context, P-Noy tried a new context of people's initiative and people's desire to change the system that was very corrupt and injustices prevailed. In this book, I remembered when I was mainly involved in recent elections (2022 Elections), which was my first time volunteering in politics and this was the most heartbreaking election from my perspective. The people's desire to change the political system that is corruptible and wrecked/challenge political dynasties plus families of crony elites and a son of a dictator, and vote for the change for everyone to have a better country cannot change youth fueled their determination to support and loan their time to campaign these candidates. I hope that this country will be brought back the justice and democracy that our heroes and every human being fight for our rights.
✨3.25/5✨ Relatively an easy book to get through. It feels more like a personal chronicle to me that circles back to certain particular points, but it does offer some insights that are heartwarming and hopeful in real instances of a campaign.
