With this collection, you'll enjoy 24 workmanlike stories from first-time author E.N. Larsen. Lower your expectations and you'll encounter a man driving the highways of Iowa or a woman with prescription problems. You'll find a couple that has nothing to talk about, a laid-off employee, a homicidal pet, and other mediocre, unsatisfactory characters. Bask in the poor-to-fair portrayals of unexceptional characters doing unexceptional things.
The stories are short and undemanding so they can be read in noisy, smelly environments without too much trouble. They can also be easily enjoyed while intoxicated or otherwise impaired. Perfect for hospital rooms, treatment centers, park-and-rides, and public restrooms.
This is a great selection of short stories about strange things that you wouldn't want to happen to you. Some of them are rather odd but I would definitely recommend it.
I liked how these stories gave a glimps into the lives if so many different lives. You got to peak into the heads of people in their everyday lives and see their inner-most thoughts and feelings. Thoughts and feelings that would never be said out loud to anyone. It was easy to think of what the ramifications would be if they were though! Interesting and easy read.
This was an odd book. It's a collection of short stories about strange people or strange situations, but I found it weird that there was no intro from the other or anything to explain how this book came about. The stories were interesting, I just would've liked to know where the other was coming from here!
The first short story, although being a bit off, was funny and the hook that got me to download the book after reading it. I gave it up to 51% (Kindle) and well, you be the judge.
A train on a man's wife's hat that goes around and 'round (on the hat) and bellows smoke when a few drops of this stuff is added to it. The man tries to see what more than the recommended few drops will do.
Cats that talk.
A woman who hides out in a closet during a company meeting, turns out the lights from the panel inside the closet and runs out of the building to catch a ride home with her husband.
A young man who upon seeing a (dental) retainer in a restaurant, picks it up, puts it in his backpack, and then denies seeing it when the father of the owner of the retainer comes back in the restaurant for it.
These are but a few of the short stories included which upon reading, just might make you want to do as the title says "Let's Never Do That Again."
This collection features a wide variety of stories with characters who relate to the world in a skewed way. Sometimes it's a refusal to look at reality to the point of delusion, other times 'what if' spins out of control. The title story is a study of sick fascination and naughty giggles at what would the world think? The one story with sexual content is non-explicit.
It's probably best not to read these stories at a gulp -- the interior of the characters' heads are best for short visits, much like a pair of stylish shoes that pinch.
Disclaimer, I won this book as a Goodreads giveaway.
This book is filled with snippets of life and they are short, quick reads that are masterfully written. The author's imaginative writing is just wonderful and I enjoyed each vignette.
If you are looking for a story with a beginning and an ending, this isn't it. If you are looking for a lot of short insights into an event in some people's lives then you will enjoy this book. Very well written.
This is not my favorite book in the world. It is a collection of short stories, but all of the characters seem like the same voice. They are mostly in silly situations. We will see how it goes from here.
