Ups and Downs

Ann Clay's "Protective Custody" started off very interesting with a woman who was awakened from her sleep by men dressed in black. They took her and the rest of the folks at her hotel hostage. This book had real promise in the beginning. However, by the middle, when the woman found out what was going on, the book slowed down to almost a crawl. It did pick up again and I thought with the love story between the main characters that it was going to redeem itself and be full of action, but just as the steam of the book was reviving it back to life, it stalled again.

Overall, I think "Protective Custody" could have been better if it would have stayed on the right track with all of the action and a little more mystery and some drama. There's a lot that could have been done with this story to make it better. I do hope that the author puts some time into maybe revamping it some as this could be a great read. But as it is now, I would have to give it 3 out of 5 stars as it was just okay.
