A fun and engaging way for young children to figure out concepts and solving problems on his or her own. Rookie Readers (Ages 5-7) have provided entertaining, high-quality introductions to reading for more than a generation. Each title features full-color, often hilarious illustrations and engaging stories that always involve a young child figuring out concepts or solving problems on his or her own. This book presents a rhyming look at a cowboy's day at the rodeo.

This little beginning reader was just right for launching our "Cowabunga MUD!" story time. I like involving the children by asking questions, such as "What is this? (pointing to the illustration) and adding, "It's something to wear on your head to keep the sun off." A COWBOY HAT! I read the text and turn the page. I point to the eight pair of boots and ask, "What are these?" BOOTS! Then I read the text. And so forth. This is called DIALOGIC READING and it is a good tool for building reading readiness. http://www.pearsonfoundation.org/down...
