Finally ready to settle down, Abby Bancroft has just inherited a place to put down roots. But her hopes for a successful bed-and-breakfast are placed on hold when she learns that her grandparents' run-down inn is in serious need of TLC. So is Cole Preston, the handsome contractor who offers to help make her dream a reality. His past mistakes won't let him consider settling in the close-knit town. Yet as he and Abby work together to repair the house, they also begin to mend each other's hearts. And they just may find that consulting their hearts is what creating a home is all about.
Abby is running towards Dynamite Creek to make it her new home, and Cole is running away from it, to escape his past.
Years ago Cole's Partner in his construction company ripped off/stole money from all of their clients. One of those clients were the Grandparents of Abby. Abby is now the new owner of her Grandparents B & B, but she is new in town, inexperienced, and is low on funds. So, when Cole comes knocking on the door to help repair the B & B she is skeptical, but needs his help. Cole wants to repair the B & B, fix his reputation and get as far away from Dynamite Creek as possible. But Abby is the opposite, shes lived the life of running, thanks to a single mom who never called anywhere home. Abby is determined to make Dynamite Creek her new home, and finally make friends, and have support and a community. While neither Abby or Cole are thrilled to have to work together, over time they become each others biggest supporters. She is lonely and wants connection, and he wants a second chance, and to be seen as a the person he is, not who he was. They both find that in each other. But, as their bond grows closer, time is flying and the B & B project will be completed soon. That means what no one wants to admit... Cole will leave.
This is a sweet story, you can really feel the pull that Abby and Cole have over each other. He wants to be close to her, she doesn't want him to ever leave. And yet both keep reminding each other to be careful because its only temporary. Very , very good story! *I reduced one star because I felt the ending to the epilogue left out a key part of the story, it just fast forwarded to what we all assumed would happen.
I love Abby and Coles story. Both good hearted people who have been hurt and need a second chance at life and love. This is a beautiful story of two people who have to learn to let go of the past and open their hearts to love and hope.
This is one of those rare books that I couldn't finish. The story idea of a young woman inheriting a decaying hulk of a Bed & Breakfast from grandparents she never knew, and her hero being a contractor with a tarnished reputation sound great. But it's not a style I enjoy reading.
"Home Sweet Home" is a flashback to the 1970s Harlequin Romances that reads like a melodramatic soap opera. Every look causes breathing problems. Every touch sparks electricity. Within 24 hours of meeting, the girl is in the guy's arms after much internal angst from both characters about resisting the urges. One more hitched breath or tingling touch and I was going to gag.
If the reader likes this style of story, no doubt they will love "Home Sweet Home" but it's not for me.
I liked the other book of Kim's I read - "On the Wings of Love" but I really liked this one so much better! I could totally relate to the whole book. First of all it was about remodeling an old Victorian house - been there, done that. My house is a Queen Anne Victorian built in 1870 that we had to totally re-do before we even moved in. Second - the characters in this book were very real to me and relatable (I don't think that is a word??). I liked Abby from the start. It was a nice love story that flowed very well. I got this book from Kim herself, and she even signed it for me! What a sweetie!

I love all of Kim Watters' books, and Home Sweet Home did not disappoint. As usual, Ms. Watters writes with such emotion that I feel as if I'm in the story. I loved Abby and Cole, both good-hearted people who'd been hurt and who needed a second chance, at life and at love. This is a beautiful story of two people who learn to let go of the past and open their hearts to love and hope. It's such a wonderful love story that I let out a huge sigh at the end. I hated to see it end. Home Sweet Home is definitely worth reading and savoring.
Light simple romance. The premise had far more potential than was realized. Instead of focusing so much on the details of the renovation itself the story could have revealed more about the history of the B&B and the Bancroft's. Abby never got all the answers she was looking for. And, as it is so often with Harlequin's, the redundant fillers - though not as bad as some I've read - should have been edited out.
This is a mini ‘Books For Christian Girls’ review. It is not a full content review and will not receive one. These mini-reviews are years old and just for clarity on the rating the book received on Goodreads.
1/24/2014- “A cute story.”
Main Content- *Kisses; Touches, Embraces, & Noticing (barely-above-not-detailed); Both Abby & Cole imagine what it would be like to kiss each other; Love, falling in love, & the emotions.
I had high hopes for this book with the story line (I just love me a carpenter/fixer-upper), but sadly this one didn't do it for me. The characters weren't believable, and their interactions/dialogs felt forced. Also, I didn't think God was presented enough for the change required in this instance. Maybe it's because I read a few other books with similar story lines, and I had those in my head at the time. Usually me beloved cup of tea, but not this one.
Perfect! What more can I say besides the fact that I have TWO copies of this book in my collection I loved it so much. Loved the hero, loved the heroine, loved the romance, the setting, etc....See for yourself! It's better than cake!
