Men of the Mist #3

Bewitching The Highlander

Rate this book
Keelan has awakened from a deep slumber, in another time, in another place, and still haunted by demons of his past. Determined to recover the Treasure that caused his family's downfall, he arrives at the sweeping Scottish countryside . . . and discovers the magic of a gentle, healing touch from a lass who stokes passion's fire in this Highlander's breast. The mysterious appearance of the Scottish warrior nearly causes Charity to abandon her plans, but she'd been playing the part of a dutiful maid for too long to let someone else walk away with the prize—even if Keelan is as great a temptation as the Treasure. Yet when they are forced on the run, Charity discovers that the Highlander may be too irresistible, and to deny him would be impossible . . . for love's glorious promise awaits her in his powerful embrace and sensuous kiss.

Born on a North Dakota cattle ranch, Lois Greiman graduated from a high school class of sixty students before moving to Minnesota where she professionally trained and showed Arabian Horses for several years. Since that time she's been a high fashion model, a fitness instructor, and a veterinary assistant. But an incurable case of writing fever put a stop to all those occupations.

Since selling her first book to Avon in 1992, she has sold twelve other historical romance novels, most of which are set in medieval Scotland and involve her very popular Forbes clan. In an attempt to pursue her love of humor, Ms. Greiman has also recently sold three romantic comedies to Harlequin Enterprises.

While caring for three children, fifteen horses, and a menagerie of pets on her small farm in Minnesota, Ms. Greiman writes full time, producing two or three novels a year and garnering much praise from readers and reviewers alike. Affaire de Coeur called HIGHLAND WOLF "magnificent." Romantic Times proclaimed LADY AND THE KNIGHT"...pure magic." Christina Dodd proclaims "Lois Greiman delivers....The Fraser Bride offers delightful characters, breathless adventure."

Her Highland novels have received Affaire de Couer's Critic's Choice Award, Romantic Times K.I.S.S. Award, and been nominated for Romance Writer's of America's prestigious Rita. Her titles have appeared on Barnes and Nobles Best Selling Romance list and won her the Midwest Fiction Writer's Rising Star Award.

I very rarely give negative reviews as I usually don't finish bad books and believe you shouldn't review a book unless you actually finish the whole thing.

The premise of this book hooked me in to reading it, but I spent 3/4 of the book waiting for it to get better and it never did. It was completely disjointed. There was no rhythm to the dialogue or storyline. I wanted so much to like it, because taken individually, the plot, the hero, the heroine and the villain all were great. But mixed together the book was not good at all. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone UNLESS you had read the previous books in the story (VERY) recently. Otherwise you will just get lost and confused as I did.

I stuck with it because I really do like Greiman's writing, I was annoyed at the end though because I was just pleased the book was finished and I could get on to something else. Not how I like to finish a book at all.

I think Lois Greiman missed the mark with the one. The beginning is interesting, but waaay overdone. Then we don't even see Charity's viewpoint until about 136 pages in! And it switches only 3 or 4 times, I think we would have been better off without, or much much sooner. And I don't like seeing a hero who is a self-professed coward, but always seems to have something up his sleeve...except Keelan never does. No tricks, no heroism, it was kind of disappointing until the end of the book when we got some real action, some real insight into each character and enough of the bs. The ending was okay, but it is touted as a treasure hunt, when there is no hunting, alot of being tortured and alot of running. Really a disappointing end to the Men in the Mist trilogy.

Loved the story and witty banter. Did NOT love the f-word nearly every paragraph or using the Lord's Name as an oath.

No idea wtf this was, couldn’t finish it. I think only the author knows what is going on in this book and no one else. Terrible mess.

I do not like to leave bad reviews. Just becuase a book may not be my cup of tea, does not mean that it may be the same for someone else. This book is forcing me to leave a negative review. I would have given it zero stars if that was possible. Ms. Greiman has written several other lovely books, so I am not sure what happened with this book. I have no idea how this book made it past the editors at AVON. They must have read the prolouge and the last chapter and called it a day.

The Good: The heroine is likable and brave. The author's voice can be engaging at times.

The Bad: We do not meet the Heroine until partway through the book, at first I was unaware that she actually was the heroine, and we rarely get to see her POV. The Hero is a self proclaimed coward and a letch, the villian had more emotional depth.

The Ugly: The book was an acid trip gone wrong. Characters were popping in and out like a halicuinatory dream. The author did not make it clear if the characters were lucid or feverish or in another realm, or I do not know what. I was so confused half the time.

Recommened for people who read the rest of the series and have to know the ending. However. you will be frustrated with the ending, so you may want to make up your own ending in your head.

Okay. Keelan has been put into a deep sleep to survive the treachery that killed his father and mother and avenge their deaths. Charity has also vowed to avenge her mother's death and so they both end up at their enemy's house to find the treasure that he stole. Weird dreams (some erotic, some not) follow w/ strange people popping up here and there w/ no real explanation (there is sort of one at the end.) Things tend to be disjointed and not even all that interested. By the 4th or 5th time the bad guy caught up to them, it was really annoying and had gotten old and when they finally killed him it was kind of a let down.

This is a very confusing book to read. I would not recommend it to anyone, especially if your looking for a time travel one. I was lead to believe that it was indeed a time travel romance, however, all I found it to be is very confusing to say the least. I stuck it out cause I wanted to see where it would end up in the story. The best part of the book was the 2nd to the last chapter where the author brings the whole book into focus.
