Beloved Destiny

Rate this book
Set against the background of the opulent antebellum South, this novel involves three young people: one woman and two men. The heroine is a fiery beauty with auburn hair, raised in the manner of a southern belle whose father is a wealthy plantation owner.
Carina falls in love with William, who is poor and rejected by her parents. They want her to marry Joshua, son of their friends, who is very wealthy.
William leaves the country to make arrangements for Joshua's grand tour in Europe. His ship is lost at sea, which devastates Carina.
Joshua is also grieving for his friend and he and Carina comfort each other. They marry, although neither of them are in love with the other. Joshua is unable to consummate the marriage and withdraws from his wife.
A very unhappy marriage results and Carina discovers that her husband prefers young men to his beautiful wife.
Their turbulent troubled marriage creates chaos for both of the families and later they are met with a crisis so destructive they might not survive it.

I enjoyed this story. I loved the triangle between Joshua, Carnia and William. Not your usual triangle. Carnia loves William but can't have him because he isn't wealthy enough. Joshua is wealthy enough, but he has a secret. His secret changes all their lives. Nice summer reading!
