Gene Malloy is finally ready to get on with his life. And he just may have found the perfect woman to share it with him. From the moment Gene rescues Sloane Hepburn from a rogue wave on the beach, she makes his most passionate fantasies come true. With her sultry beauty and lively spirit, Sloane is turning the divorced Maui B and B owner's life upside down—and he's loving every minute of it….Relocating to Hawaii is a big step for the overextended career woman. But with hunky, seductive Gene Malloy romancing her under a tropical island sky, how can a woman keep from falling? Now he just has to make her see that their love is here to stay. And that the pleasure is just beginning…
A sweet and sexy read. Although the plot had very little conflict and not much depth to it, I really liked the main couple (hotel guest relations director Sloane, and bed and breakfast owner Gene). The romance was easygoing and there was plenty of sex. The tropical island paradise of Maui was gorgeous and provided a wonderful setting and made me wish I was there.
Career-minded Sloan Hepburn is quite excited about her promotion to director of guest relations at her company’s luxury resort located on Maui. Sloan has made up her mind that, even in Hawaii, work will come first, but she is open to a non-serious relationship, if the right opportunity arises. Divorced Gene Malloy is the sole owner of the bed-and-breakfast inn, Malloy’s Bed and Breakfast, and while he would welcome someone new in his life, she would have to play second-fiddle to the inn. But, a chance encounter with a “sneaker” wave has Gene saving Sloan from a possible accident, and both walk away with a smile on their faces, wondering what has just sneaked up on them. There is an instant attraction between Sloan and Gene, and the flirtatious bantering between them leaves no doubt they have unfinished business to explore. Will romancing in paradise allow Sloan and Gene to appreciate, not only the beauty in Maui, but the beauty of their love?
This touching romantic story is beautifully written, and explores the emotions involved when two people are falling in love and have their own doubts about a long-term commitment. I enjoyed Sloan’s and Gene’s journey of falling in love, as the progression of the relationship is natural and realistic. While Sloan tries very hard to keep to her promise not to mix business and pleasure, just looking at Gene makes her forget what’s appropriate in the workplace. However, while she knows the heated glances Gene is shooting her way has nothing to do with business, she is smart enough to always act appropriately in the workplace.
I commend Archer for the way he handles Sloan’s and Gene’s behavior in their workplaces, and this should be a model for other couples in similar situations. The hero’s struggle with his fears of a long-term commitment, while wooing Sloan with the beauty of the island and his searing passion, is both charming and romantic. The passion between the couple is electrifying, and the loves scenes are numerous and steamy.
Secondary characters aid the story, by subtly showing Sloan and Gene how other couples have loving relationships without sacrificing their career goals. Maui was not only the location of this story, but acted more like a character, as the author made the locale come alive and aid in the blossoming romance. Many readers will be noting some of the locales and plan for their own romantic adventure.
It was very refreshing to read a romantic story without a lot of drama, and with a couple that most people can identify with. While the storyline may be a predictable boy-meet-girl and fall-in-love storyline, the author gives it a fresh feel with the steamy love scenes and realistic situations. Archer writes a great romance and traditional romantics will savor this book long after the last page is read.
PLEASURE IN HAWAII is the first book in the Passion in Paradise series. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series and the romance in Oahu.
Loved it! Pleasure in Hawaii is definitely one of my favorite stories. I felt the passion and chemistry between Sloane and Gene. This was the first book I've read from Devon Vaughn Archer, and it most certainly did him justice. I really liked the way the scenes were painted. I was actually under the illusion that I was in paradise. I look forward to reading the rest of the passions in paradise series. Great story!
This was the first installment of the "Passions in Paradise" series and the first book that I've read by Devon Vaughn Archer and I found it to be a cute little love story. I didn't feel closure to this story, maybe an epilogue would have provided that for me. Otherwise, it was cute.
Hawaii is the home of sky blue water, amazing beaches and B & B's. When Sloane Hepbun lands the job of a life time in Hawaii, will work be the beginning or the end?
