Talasara is a Werewolf… a fact that she has despised and fought against for more than three hundred years. She is also a Witch. A powerful and vital part of her that she has embraced and become dependant upon in order to help subdue her wolf. Having been raised by her Witch grandmothers, she is sheltered and hidden from the human race and her creator. A move meant to protect humans as well as Tala. And now, after discovering that her biological father is alive… well… sort of… and is of another fanged persuasion, Tala must immerse herself in the world of humans, Vampires, and Were alike in order to use the gifts of her birth to find and destroy the beast that helped create her. Teaming up with the Werewolf clan that has secretly helped raise her, Tala leaves her Ozarks home to enter the world. Naïve despite her years, she finds life, death, friendship, love, and most importantly, herself, on the way to vengeance. Because it is vengeance that pulls at her. The need to annihilate the Werewolf that stole her mother. That horrible nightmare that took away any chance at a normal life so many years ago. That is what drives her and keeps her on the path to the unknown. If she can succeed, sanity intact, she will become the most powerful crossbreed the supernatural world has ever seen. Because there is only one Talasara Renfrew… only one trIIIbrid.
Tracy Palmer (1971-????) was destined from conception to have an interesting life. After all, only the unusual can attract someone that was conceived in Peculiar, MO. Tracy was obsessively involved in music, acting, and writing since she was first introduced to them in elementary school and she spent most of her scholastic life devoted to each one of the three. A young Ms. Palmer spent a majority of her childhood shuttling back and forth between her parents at the Lake of the Ozarks and Cedar Rapids, IA. After a family tragedy at the end of her Junior year in high school, Tracy left school and served a brief stint in the US Army. Upon leaving the military, Tracy then settled in southern Missouri. She has worked in several professions (accounting, retail, call centers... all mostly IT related).
The backbone and beginning of Tracy's path towards the entertainment industry includes her first printed novel: Tribrid (first published as trIIIbrid). She is also a contributing writer for the post apocalyptic zombie game "Survivor Z". Along with ongoing contributions to the Survivor Z app, Tracy is currently involved in writing the sequel to Tribrid (My Father's Daughter), "The Rage Within" (a graphic novel based on the Tribrid series), "Fire Driven" (a short story included in the anthology For the Love of the Gods printed in 2013), and an original screenplay titled "Dream Weaver". Ms. Palmer is a production assistant for the upcoming movie "The Dead Reckoning" and other future films from the House of Grimm. The world can look forward to several more exciting things from this multi-faceted individual as she dons many more hats in the film and print industries.
I had an idea of what to expect from this book from the title but was not sure of how or what would type of combination I would be looking at. This was one of those books that totally blindsided me, I was hoping to like it and found myself engrossed in it pretty quickly. The characters do not leap out at you but slowly grow on you as they start to take shape and you see where things are going and why. The dialogue is smooth and makes it easy to follow without having to guess at what is being said. The storyline is a bit confusing because they talk about a character who does not make an appearance until near the end of the book but is central to the story itself.
Talasara has lived with her grandmother, or an older female relative since she was born in isolation. Her mother was killed while pregnant with her and only her mothers will kept her alive to be found by family. It was said that it was to protect the humans from her but maybe it was also to protect her from getting to find out her true nature. Tala is not human, nor is she simply one thing or the other, she is a mixture never seen before and one man wants to possess and use her to increase his power.
Tala is three hundred and two years old and still more child than woman. When she is sought out and told she must go away and train in order to defeat the man who killed her mother and still searches for her she is reluctant at first. But what she gains is something she is not sure she can handle. Tala discovers that while she has always known she is werewolf and witch she also holds within her a power and entity that is not trusted by many and hated by others.
This was a very different story from anything I have ever read before which made it that much more interesting. If you like shifters, witches, and vampires then this is definitely a tale for you.
1. I loved Kira. She was a perfect partner to Tala. I loved her inner strength and her personality.
2. I loved how Tala's own relatives became her new grandmothers because she never aged.
3.I loved how much her father reminded me of Dracula from Hotel Transylvania.
4. Tala and Kira as a couple! Love it!
Things that grew on me:
1. Tala's many different "descents". The more she used her various powers the more the idea grew on me.
2. How Tala's Nan's got their names. At first I rolled my eyes, but eventually I loved it. Very original yet simple.
3. How Tala's Mom and Nan's stayed with her. Wasn't sure how I was going to feel about it, but I grew to really like it.
4. The way Tala fed. At first I thought, "Oh convenient." But after watching it unfold I realized it was a good idea.
Things that bugged me: 1. The characters that seemed to have no point at all. Introduce and send away in 10 pages. Why bother?
2. It seemed sometimes that Tracey Palmer was trying her best to redo Twilight to her own likings. More than once she seemed to take a concept of Twilight and destroy in blatantly.
