The mystery of conception, pregnancy and birth stir within many people a sense of wonder. The Incarnating Child picks up Wordsworth’s theme, “Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting,” and follows the soul life of babies into early childhood and beyond. Packed with practical advice and thoughtful insights, this inspiring book will be invaluable to parents, carers and anyone concerned with the healthy development of children. The Incarnating Child addresses physical, soul, and spiritual development; the formation of healthy personalities; nutrition, clothing, environment, and toys; the processes of learning; immunization and health; and the acquisition of skills and the ability to think.
This is my favorite child-rearing book. Salter was an old woman when she wrote this, a grandmother who'd also worked in Waldorf schools for decades. It'll read as gibberish to the flattened mechano-morphic mind, a terrible pity as so many of those individuals are currently strangling our understanding of child development. Important to stow this book away in case we ever emerge from the neo-Dark Ages.
This was an excellent overview of the impact of a holistic parenting approach on the development of well-being into adulthood. I appreciated the layout, accessible writing style, and resources in the appendix. As a nanny to young children, this book was helpful in understanding how to improve my methods with the concern of the child in mind. For parents this is a must-read.
