Those of you who have read my review of Stealing Fate, already know I'm a big fan of Berinn Rae and also consider her a friend. That said, she did not beg, bribe or beat me to review Knightfall. I did it of my own volition and paid for it with my own money. So you get my honest opinion. Done with the disclaimers and on with my thoughts on Knightfall.

I admire this woman's abilities with world building. She paints vivid mind pictures with the stroke of a key, taking you on a staycation of the senses. A blend of romance and action, which will appeal to lovers of both. As with Stealing Fate, this is an ADULT novel in content, but tastefully done. No gratuitous sex scenes, everything moves the plot along. If you're squeamish about language or sexual content, you've been warned.
Thank you, Berinn, for introducing a new vocation for you heroine. I appreciate that Kerra is a pilot and not another reporter or detective. I found the job immensely interesting. The old saying 'Write what you know' rings true here, considering Berinn, herself, is a pilot.
I also loved the mix of mythical characters. A fresh twist in the land of Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy. Berinn has take bits of myth from all cultures and beliefs and made them her own. I'm just glad she decided to share it with the rest of us.
The writing is tight, but the editing bothered me. There were a few times I had to do a double take and reread a segment. I do NOT hold the author at fault. It just goes to show that things slip past all of us, even editors. That said, this book was not unreadable. Quite the contrary, it was an enjoyable ride, in planes, SUVs and you'll even get to go on a hike through mountainous terrain. Like I said, a vacation for the mind and senses, without having to leave home.

Whoa. This book is an intense, fast read. Yep. Super intense and so engrossing you won't put it down. The action is non-stop. The romance is hot, hot, hot between Kerra and Gareth yet it wasn't the plot as I have seen in many romance novels.

As the story unfolded, it just kept going deeper and deeper. I loved that. The extra characters are great, too. I hope to see some of their stories in the near future.

I liked the unique spin Berinn Rae put on angels, Guardians, and other supernatural characters. It was well crafted, thought out, and written. I was able to visualize the entire story. It'll make a great movie some day.

Nicely done, Berinn.

I really loved this book. This book was fantastic. This book took me on a roller coaster ride.

This book was pitch perfect from start to finish. What I mean about that, theres nothing wrong with this book. What I loved about Kerra and Gareth is that when they meet for the first time, they have chemistry. The author milks this, because you know Gareth is trying to avoid Kerra, but he can't.

There were so many twists and turns to this book, that instead of hurting the book I felt that it enhanced the book. It made the story much more intriguing. I love how we have characters who are special and unique. Plus the idea of characters each having a seal or special ability is intriquing.

I also love the fact that the author gives us a unique world full of Angels, Nephillim-Half Human/Angel, Guardians, hell-hounds, and many more beings yet to come inhabit this unique world.

Also love how Kerra and Gareth form a bond with each other and come to care for one another. Not to mention the other characters come in and are just as important. I also like the Villian in a way, Malgrin and how charming he could be. Not to mention when he got his come-upings. This book was terrific.

I really loved this book. I would like to thank Berinn Rae for writing an awesome book, and letting me get an early copy of this book.

This was the first book that I have read by Berinn Rae AND the first book I read on my e-reader. I was introduced to Berinn Rae through Crescent Moon Press.

What a fantastic book! A proper page turner from page 1 right through to the end! The characters Kerra and Gareth were so vivid; I think I have a new book crush in the form of Knight/Guardian Gareth…YUM! The chapters were brilliantly set up and were easy to follow. Some were written from a different section of the story but it was easy to follow what was happening where and why.

The different species were clearly set out. This was also very well done and was exciting when a new person was introduced. I know that it’s normal to see at least one piece of sexual contact in this type of book; however this was my first time of reading it. I have to say that it was very well written and very hot under the collar.

Berinn is currently working on the second in this series and I can’t wait to read it. I am itching for more of the love story between Kerra and Gareth and also for new excitement and adventure that Berinn will introduce.

I think that Berinn Rae definitely deserves a spot under the title ‘authors to watch’!!

A definite 5 out of 5: http://read2review.com/our-reviews/b/...

Berinn Rae developed an interesting and fresh new paranormal world in Knightfall, from its varied mythological and supernatural creatures to a very clever nod to Arthurian legend. The pace was quick, but not dizzying, and the characters sharp and defined. Perhaps my only real frustration regarding the content of the novel was that it seemed almost too short, in the sense that I could have delved more into the characters (and not just the main two). I was sad when the book ended! The interplay between Gareth and Kerra was interesting and very true to the core characteristics of who each of them is, which is always a pleasure to see. This world, the realm of the Hidden, is a fascinating one and I am very much looking forward to the next book to learn more about it and its characters.

However, I have serious complaints about the editor. There are a significant number of grammatical errors, missing words, and sentence structure issues that Rae's editor should have caught. It made reading the book a struggle at times, because you couldn't not notice the issues. If you can get yourself to look past those problems, the content is well worth the read. Hopefully, Rae will have a new editor for the next book so we will not be distracted from the well-crafted content.

Fun, Fresh Read. This book is great. Ms. Rae did an excellent job building a new world within our own that is so unique and fresh, it really drew me into the story. There is a variety of characters, both good and evil, that have spand the ages and are all brought together around one fabulous plot. Definitely recommend this book to be on your TBR list.

Knightfall is a sexy, action packed paranormal with a kick butt heroine and a to die for hero. Who could possibly ask for more? Berinn Rae created a world that drew me in and had me begging to know more about the Hidden and the Seven Seals. I'm eagerly awaiting to hear the release date for the second book in the series!

This was a great start to the series! If you like paranormal romance, this is a good book to read. It's full of alpha males and strong females with a very different paranormal twist to the usual story lines. Angels, hellhounds, druids, and knights - what more could you ask for!

I really, really wanted to love this book. It’s got so many great ideas but it didn’t quite coalesce for me and I’m not entirely sure why. It could be something as simple as the fact that I read it while I was sick but who knows...

As you’ve probably guessed from the cover copy, Knightfall revolves around Gareth and Kerra. Kerra’s a fantastic protagonist. She’s tough and independent and she has a really neat power: she can see people’s auras. She doesn’t know why but it’s definitely affected the way she’s chosen to live her life because she’s pretty isolated, working as a bush pilot in Alaska. (Side note: I love how original this setting and career are. You don’t often see women as pilots in books, particularly not bush pilots. Kudos, Berinn!) Kerra’s also pretty adaptable, which comes in handy as she starts to learn about the supernatural war that’s been going on for centuries.

Gareth is a nice foil for Kerra. I didn’t find him as interesting as Kerra -- maybe that’s why things didn’t come together 100% for me in this one. His back story is pretty neat but I wasn’t as drawn to him as I’d expected. I actually found the bad guy, Malgrin, to be much more interesting, if crazy. I mean, he’s totally nuts but he’s a formidable foe and I look forward to seeing where the series takes him. It won’t be good for our heroes and I’m excited to see it.

The thing I liked best about Knightfall is the world that Berinn’s created. It’s got a lot of depth and is filled with interesting characters. And as I’m feeling a little lazy today so I’m going to let Berinn (or, rather, Berinn’s website) explain the world that her series is set in:

Hidden from the world we know, exists the mythos.
Mythical creatures we believed in as children, only to be forgotten as we aged.
But that doesn’t make them any less real.
The Seven Seals, as referenced in the Book of Revelation, are said to be all that stands between our survival and the end of days.
Led by a reclusive angel, the Seven are powerful immortals, enhanced by the marks they bear.
Throughout history, the Seven have guided the Hidden, dedicating their lives to keep the world of the mythos obscured from human eyes.
But they haven't done it alone.
It is the Guardians – knights, shifters, and other men of the mythos – who have defended the Seven
and protected the Hidden against the power-hungry Dominion,
and the world has been held in a fragile balance of good and evil.
As bloodshed spills over to claim human lives, the forces that balance against each other begin to unravel.
One thing is known. When the dust settles, nothing will ever be the same.

Wicked, no? I love it when a series has an epic feel and Knightfall has definitely nailed it. Both sides have strong leaders and interesting characters and the idea of the Seven Seals really grabs my attention.

Knightfall is a solid debut set in a captivating world. I wasn’t as blown away as I’d hoped but I did enjoy Kerra and Gareth’s story and I am excited to see what Berinn has in store for us with the next book, Hellbound, which is being released at the end of March.

I am not one to gush over covers, but don't you just love the abs on the guy on the cover? Oh la la!! It's also pretty close to how I pictured the hero of the story, Gareth to look like. The cover must have seeped into my sub conscious while reading! Gareth is one alpha male and helped me break the slow reading phase I was into this year. I loved how he was tough as nails, yet when it came to Kerra we saw a different, protective side of him that shocked even those closet to him. Like all alpha males, he had a little bit of an attitude and felt in order to protect Kerra he didn't give her a lot of information. This made me want to shake him-however I could see where he was coming from even if I didn't agree with him.

Kerra was equally as tough if not tougher then Gareth was, but one of the more likable heroines I've come across in awhile. She's always been different and could read people's auras. It told her when people were lying, upset or happy. It's one of the reasons she's ended up Alaska, where there aren't as many people. I liked the fact that she was a bush pilot and her weapon of choice was a gun. When Gareth starts hiding information from her thinking he's protecting her, I love how she calls it on him. The two work really well together as a team fighting those who want to use Kerra for evil purposes. Is it wrong that I fell for one of the bad guys right hand men, a hell hound and another minion on the side of evil? Yes, I know I have some serious book boyfriend issues. Once Gareth comes to his senses he realizes that the only way to protect Kerra is to take her to the island where the other guardians like him live. I liked how not everyone was accepting of Kerra and when she doesn't see Gareth all the time she gets upset, but doesn't break down and have a woe is me session that lasts for pages, lol.

The one thing that really confused me was that throughout the book we don't know who her father is, it's just alluded that he is some one powerful. Then all of a sudden everyone is calling him by name. I felt like I missed something, but I think that had more to do with editing then anything. Speaking of editing, this is billed as a paranormal romance, but to me the only thing that made it that was the epilogue. Everything else screamed Urban Fantasy to me. There was romance in the book, but not as much as I expected with it being labeled a Paranormal Romance. In fact the ending really surprised me, because I was expecting an Urban Fantasy type ending, not a Paranormal Romance ending, if that makes sense.

Despite the shock I got at the ending I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read book two, Hellhound. (this book was sent to me by the author for an honest review)

Kerra Cain grew up in various foster homes never knowing much about her parents or where her special abilities came from. Those special abilities eventually drove her into the wilderness of Alaska where there were not so many people. Being an empath who can read aura’s can be a pain when living in a crowed city. Kerra is a walking lie detector. She figures that the smaller population of the Alaskan wilderness will keep her away from too many people. Little did she know that humans were not going to be her problem.

She never imagined that she was a member of the Hidden World. The Hidden World is a world of non humans consisting of Angels, hellhounds, Aztecan Goddesses, magical witches and a drop dead sexy knight in well worn jeans. They stay hidden from the human population of the world. Most of these beings have extra or special abilities. Kerra’s life is turned upside down when the angel that rules the evil Dominion sets his goal to acquiring her for his possession. Kerra’s empath ability lets her know from get go that this man is pure evil.

Enter sexy knight in well worn jeans, Gareth. Gareth is a Guardian, a protector of the Seven Seals. His current assignment is to watch Kerra. The Seven want to know why the Dominion is interested in her and is she a threat. The only threat that Gareth is able to see is the one she poses to his heart. He can’t get her out of his head and he sees her as a distraction to his assignment. Gareth having been majorly burned in his past is weary of Kerra. He knows the attraction is there, but he does his damnedest to deny it.

As with the first in any series there is an immense amount of world building. I found the world to be very interesting, especially the Guardians of the Seven Seals. This is a very fresh concept. They are such a diverse group of paranormal/fantasy beings. They are hellhounds, angels, goddesses, an all knowing oracle type who has visions, and an Arthurian knight! I am looking forward to the next book, I have full intentions of reading it. The hero is one of the hellhounds! YUM. I think what brought the rating down for me was the book was too short for the amount of world building that the readers are given. It seemed to take something away from the story for me. At times I felt like the book skipped over something that should have been there.

Normally I do not read romance novels because they come across cheesy to me. However, this book is a paranormal romance book, so that aspect of it intrigued me to read it. I had heard about this book through someone that I used to know and I wanted to check it out. I am fortunate enough to have a good friendship with the author, but that will not change my review, I also promised her I wouldn’t let our friendship cloud my judgement. Trust me it hasn’t.

First thing I have to say, is that this book doesn’t need the romance aspect of it. Granted it is nice, very well written, if it was written like most YA romance is written it would have been just as good. A little mystery to the intimate details. Berinn Rae has set up such an amazing story it doesn’t need any extra help from the romance. The romance in this story isn’t bad at all though. You get the picture very clear, and it is smoking! This isn’t like any other romance novel you may read, which is another reason I liked it so much. No cheesy, cliche’ crap. The world that Berinn has created, is a very interesting fantasy world. It is such a good paranormal story.

You get a sense for all the characters in this book. Right away, you know Gareth is one hot sexy dude, that right there is enough to keep anyone reading, hehe. Kerra is a girl we can all relate to and probably someone we could all be friends with. Malgrin is scary right off the bat. He just oozes the bad guy vibe right away. You are very involved right away and want to keep reading to find out what happens to all these characters.

For me, the reason I didn’t give this book a 5 out of 5 is the beginning of this book was very slow for me. I kept pushing on waiting for it to pick up, which of course it did. I am not huge into romance, so that put me off a little bit, but the more I got into the story the more I started to really like it. Berinn is one hot romance writer and I an very excited to read what she has coming next!!

“Kerra trusted three things in the world. Her empathic gift, her instincts, and her dog.”

Having the ability to see someone’s aura might be considered a benefit, but for Kerra Cain, it's been more of a curse. As an empath, the ugliness of humanity is on full technicolor display when she see's their aura's, which is like having a built in lie-detector. The solitude of Alaska offers an escape from all of that color noise, so with the companionship of her terrier Beacon, Kerra lives her life as a bush pilot. The quietness of her existence gets turned upside down the day she encounters two men with extremely different aura's and neither can be trusted.

All bets are off when Gareth learns that there is more to his assignment than merely terminating her. Now he's taken matters into his own hands and learning why the Dominion wants her has become top priority. However, Kerra's mere presence is enough to distract Gareth's primary focus and his hard earned control over temptation is on the verge of shattering. Gareth tries to resist the lust and deny his protective instincts over Kerra, but with the threats mounting against her, getting to the truth is the only way to survive.

A fantastic fantasy filled with amazing sexual tension, humor, and a complex new world with all sorts of incredible creatures. The characters are fleshed quite well with believable personalities. Kerra is a wonderful balance of strong-willed and feminine while Gareth is both gruff and mischievous. They have amazing chemistry together and keep the storyline moving and engaging. Even Kerra's terrier, Beacon, steals the show a few times with his intuitiveness and just plain cuteness.

Fantasy fans will love this new series for it's eclectic mix of myth and legend and romance fans will love the hero and heroine.

Original Review Written For The Romance Reviews

He’s a Guardian, sworn to protect The Seven from any and all danger. Even if that means killing the sexy, spunky girl he has been sent to watch. She’s an orphan, who has worked hard to become a bush pilot with her only family, her dog Beacon, by her side. Are they destined to fight on opposite sides of the war of The Hidden, or could there be something more the Nos’ Prophecy then meets the eye?

Knightfall by Berinn Rae introduces a new series about The Hidden. Every fairytale and myth has a base in truth and this writer has used some of these classic characters as a base for her own. I won this book from the author and I'm awfully glad I did. "Knightfall" was very entertaining. This spicy story was written with a great many intriguing elements and impossibly gorgeous, sexy beings. Rae spins a tale of good vs. evil set in the world of the Hidden. I enjoyed how the author made the 'good' guys a mix of dark and light. "Knightfall" is at its core a romance, with all the usual emotional tug of war between the two main characters (Kerra and Gareth). But the story is also filled with plenty of combat, adventure, and a well thought-out paranormal construct. As Kerra begins to understand her heritage, she steps up to the challenge. I finished the book with a smile on my face.

This is the story of Kerra Cain who flies her plane in Alaska making runs of supplies. She lives in Alaska because she see aura on people. Everything was running fine until a man shows up and puts this metal jewelry on her and she has people and things happening that she never expected. She meets this wonder guy who is a guardian to protect the Seven Seals, his name is Gareth. I liked reading this book, I found it different from other stories and it was well written and it kept me reading to find out what happens. I am looking forward to reading the next one. Thank you Berinn Rae for a great story.

Fun read! Kerra is a great character. She's smart and tough and also has a vulnerable side. She and Gareth are a perfect match. I loved the chemistry between them. They both had their own demons to deal with, so to speak, and it was fun to see them work through their problems together. Kerra's experience as a pilot also gave the story a unique flavor. I enjoyed the background on the Guardians as well. I'll be looking for the next book in the series!
