Teacher, Flora Owens had the perfect life. Everything was where it should be until the morning she discovered her knickers had been stolen from the line again. Now, her ordered world is in tatters. Her boss has broken his and been replaced by a man she thought she'd never see again, the parents are complaining and her colleagues are behaving oddly. Lust, stalkers & mild OCD. What's a girl to do?
Lindy began writing at University but never really wanted to be 'an author'. She wanted to be a Princess or at worst a Kindergarten teacher. Her first novel, Heart of Glass, was penned in 2007 and since then she become known for writing funny, forthright romantic fiction with a cast of crazy, comic characters. Lindy is also well-known for her short, romantic novellas which have repeatedly topped the short stories charts in the US and UK. She gains most of her inspiration from her dreams, listening to music and watching ridiculous amounts of reality TV.
In 2012, Lindy was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and, never one to let a chance escape, she used the hospital visits to write Storm in a B Cup, which features the fictional character Sophie, whose medical experiences mirror the author's own journey. Sophie however, ends up with her hot plastic surgeon. Lindy is still very much married to her gorgeous husband of twenty-six years. Storm in a B Cup went on to reach #1 in Medical Fiction, #1 in Breast Cancer Fiction, #1 in Genre Fiction on Amazon US and #4 on iBooks AU.
Reading 'Perhaps .... Perhaps' is like sipping a crisp, dry Chablis on a warm summer's day, and reading the whole book is like downing the whole bottle, which is just fine by me.
So this is how you should read 'Perhaps .... Perhaps', a glass of white wine in one hand and LA Dale (so to speak) in the other - a perfect combination.
The writing is elegant, sharp and bouncy, the characters well defined, the heroine neurotic-squeaky and her reservations a bit olde worlde. Thank God her boss knows how to get on top of his job.
This is a very enjoyable chick-lit which knows the conventions without choosing to follow them slavishly.
I shall certainly be hunting down LA Dale's other book 'Heart of Glass' which apparently bumps along to a soundtrack of classic songs. I fancy another bottle.
I found this on my Kindle recommedation page and I have to say I did really enjoy it. BUT....I did not like the character of Luke. Flora was very likeable and relatable and so were her friends P.J and Louise. However none of the male characters were very likeable. Luke started off promising but ended up a bit of a jerk I felt, and if I was Flora I would have been a bit annoyed at the ending and how he came back etc. (Can't say too much without giving anything away). However I did find the overall story interesting and enjoyable, I would read more from this author in the future.
This wasn't a bad little free download at all. It was refreshing to read a book set in Perth and I liked the characters. If I was going to nit pick, it would be about Flora's stalker being way too obvious, and I didn't really like the ending. Won't say too much and spoil it. Let's just say, I don't think Luke was really worth having, apart from for obvious reasons! However, I have downloaded another of the authors books and paid 99c for it, so obviously I found this a fun read.
I enjoyed watching Flora grow from a push-over and wallflower to an independent woman willing to speak her mind. I thought Luke was more than a little swarmy and that he needed to start thinking for himself. I'm glad everything worked out in the end. Good read, would probably reread down the road.
I saw this book on the kindle recommending page and thought, 'why not'. I did not like Luke in the beginning but I began to understand him later on in the book. I liked Flora as you see her development throughout the book. A good read.
But why?!? No, seriously, why would you torture yourself the way the Flora/Flower did....aside from that I hated Luke and how she let him get away with being a jerk. The story had some frustrating points of "why are we wasting these words and pages", and it tied up too quickly and easily. It was a decent book and I read straight through but Flora was obnoxious and her friends were no better.
LA Dale has a done it again with her second novel, Perhaps...Perhaps. We follow the life of neurotic Flora (Flower) through some unprecedented changes in her life, which are all very difficult for her to take on board as her life is very 'normal' and mundane as well as extremely ordered. Poor Flora couldn't cope with anything else but extreme order with her OCD tendencies! All this is about to change, her life is about to be turned upside down when Luke enters her life.
Beautifully written, very readable. I was unable to put it down once I started, always wanting to find out what was going to happen next. The different characters in the story entwined easily with the main character making it very easy to follow. A few different sub-plots to keep you guessing if there was to be a twist, a bit of mystery along the way. LA Dale writes with an flow easily making her books very enjoyable.
The writing was fine, but the bad guy was way too predictable, and the hero was unlikable. He was cheating on his fiancee (and despite his excuses, it didn't help his cause) and then goes back to marry her. Instead of manning up and deciding for himself to break things off to be with the heroine, he only returns because his fiancee found someone else. This made him seem weak and ridiculous. I was disappointed.
