So... you wake up one day after a two-year nap and discover that your father is dead. What do you do? Take over his kingdom and rule with an iron fist, of course Laharl may be new to the whole Overlord scene, but with the help of the demon-girl Etna and the angel-ditz Flonne, he's going to be the best ruler the Netherworld's ever seen. All he has to do is get by the hordes of halfwit hellions determined to challenge him for the throne, foil an interdimensional plot and keep his own vassals from trying to kill him.

the game is fantastic. i was so excited when i saw this, i instantly grabbed it and didn't let it go. it saddly did not live up to the game. the comedy fell just short of actually being funny, and much of the story of the 60+ hour game was changed to accomidate the one volume graphic novel. i was glad to see that the sequel was more than just one volume, but that also means i have to track down more than one volume.

back to this book. a lot of the elements were the same with the book and the game. character relationships, personalities (the last time i saw an adaptation of a video game, they had combined a couple of characters into one, drastically changing personalities and the flow of the story), and of course the prinnies were the same too. i sort of wish more of the game would have come out in the book, but i guess i can't complain too much. shindo stayed fairly true to the intent of the game, and it was fairly easy to see which points he felt were important and therefore made it into print.

but if you like strategy games and at least somewhat liked this manga, then you definately have to play the game. it's truly a requirement at that point.

Now the game series great Any RPG fan should play it, However this manga is terrible.
Everybody in this manga is like a shell of there former self.
Everyone friendly every one nice.
Remind of one of those first grade kiddy story we'll that's because it is.

Art 3/5
The character actually look like there game. I love the details on all of them really love Flonne. Such cuteness.

The story 3/5
The story pretty good it is about laharl trying to kill the overlord baal for his father that was killed by baal so he seeks out on the journey along Etna and flonne to help on his journey.

Overall I apologize it's not that bad but it doesn't live up to the game series.
I give Disgaea the manga a 3/5

A fresh twist on a beloved RPG! This manga boasts a gorgeous, unique art style and faithfully adapts the game's plot. While it lacks the game's sheer depth and originality, the humor shines through. For the full story experience, grab the game! But if you're new to manga or craving a quick read, this is a delightful entry point.

I like the twist at the end. I think I have read this before because it seemed very familiar. Apparently it is also a game.

Graphic Novel-3Q,2P,J Review-Despite the fact, I have no idea how to read this graphic novel, I am trying to critic from a visual point of view. For instance, the characters are drawn very playful and youthful. Almost too youthful but because of the violence I would not recommend the reading to anyone under the age of 12. I am not completely lost understanding the plot -there is a son who is battling a vain under-lord for the kingdom of the Netherworld. There is a great amount of battle scenes filled with Japanese lettering(characters)...but I am not sure what there purpose is. I really couldn't read this graphic novel. I don't have any experience or knowledge-but now I have a headache. ;(

I like Disgaea a lot. It's laughter from the first page to the last. I've already seen the anime before, so I was curious to reading this, even though I did not remember how the anime was. The thing I less liked in the manga was the illustration, the anime/game characters are better.

trad.: Adoro Disgaea. É riso da primeira à última página. Já tinha visto o anime antes, e portanto estava curioso por ler o manga, ainda que já não me lembrasse como tinha sido o anime. O que menos gostei aqui foram as ilustrações, os personagens no anime/jogo estão melhores.

This manga is a slightly different take on the popular RPG of the same name. The art style is lovely and stands out, the plot is nearly on point with the game, and the humor within is great. It does NOT compare to the game in terms of originality and overall fun though, so I do recommend picking up the game and playing it if you want to get a true take of the story. Otherwise, if you wanted to start someone off in the world of manga or a quick read for yourself, this is the route to go!

What happens when you take a cute (if not overtly Otaku-ish) game and turn it into a clever Manga...
To heck if I know because this is a terrible adaption of a game.

The plot is somehow both rushed and yet drags. The jokes almost always fail to land. Some of the best parts of the game have been removed and those that remain have been completely changed for the worst.

Adapting is hard, but this doesn't even come close to be acceptable.

The manga is okay, but I seriously recommend that you play the game and/or watch the anime first. As with all game based manga, they can never include all the content. The events of the anime are closer to the game, and some of the filler content is actually good. The manga is great however for anyone who is already a fan of the series and just wants to see more of the artwork.

The artwork is cute, though maybe a bit juvenile in relation to the nature of the story. Some people may mistakenly think this is geared towards a younger crowd. On a positive note, it does stay true to the game (which is a really good) but, unfortunately, it seems like much of the humour is lost. Overall, not quite what I was hoping for, but I would recommend it to fans of the game.

I love the game, so I thought, "Hey! Look! It's Disgaea in manga form!"
They basically turned it into a generic "power of friendship" kids story. Not very funny, not very fun. The art's good, at least.
