I've already read a few of Annie Bellet's books, and then I discovered that she has a lot of free shorts out! BROKEN MOON is the shortest of those I picked up.
This is a short story inspired by Blackbeard, I'd guess - or is it Bluebeard? I'm not sure, but the one with all the women heads in the closet - but with a werewolf twist. I did enjoy the story, even if I'm left with a few questions and wanting more!
Bellet's writing is nice and has a good flow. Her stories are short and to the point, and if you haven't checked her out yet, I suggest you do. This story and more are free on kindle.
A young woman, alone and looking for her place in the world, with the added complication that she’s a wolf shifter. When she meets Roane she feels they have some extra connection. She finds out the truth the hard way, and then it is up to her to rescue herself; no one else is going to do it. 888 A short work back from when all the best advice was to keep putting them out there. It’s basically werewolf bluebeard. 3 stars
Too short, underdeveloped and written in what comes across as an immature style. It is not fully resolved and, unless I am missing something, the ending does not appear to have any relevance. A shame as I quite liked some of Bellet’s other stories,
A stand alone short story by Annie Bellet. Urban Fantasy (but set in a rural location.) Short but snappy, dealing as it does with the discovery that a relationship is toxic.
Janie is a shifter. Mild-mannered, quiet, and almost reclusive, as she works at Bella Mae’s, a local diner, and lives alone, deep in the woods. She has always felt out of place among other people and feels that only her mother that died in an automobile accident when she was still very young truly understood her. That was until Roane entered her life. From the moment their eyes meet, she feels a connection, much deeper that merely physical.
I must admit upfront that I am no real fan of stories about shifters, vampires, werewolves, or any other creatures that prefer to dwell in the dark. I am, however, totally hooked on books and reading. I acquired this book without even looking at what it may be about. It was short but maybe, more importantly, free. I have always been a sucker for a bargain! I can categorically state that this story hasn’t changed my opinion on this genre but I did find it exciting and liked the way it was written. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I would jump at the chance to read the next book in this series, but I would gladly read anything by this author in another genre.
This was a fantastic short story that was well written. Janie is one clever wolf, the secrets she discovers are creepy and heartbreaking, and Roane more than deserved his fate!
I REALLY liked this story and think it was executed well until the end, what happens to Janie and her pups? The man's sons, Isaac and Jacob? I want more of it.
I couldn't get into the Twenty-Sided Sorceress series, but I still love this author's work, especially her older stuff. This short story was no exception. Good read.
