Loader looks at hotly contested New Testament passages on sexuality and offers a fair and balanced treatment of what scholars say about them. He also offers an analysis of why interpreters say what they say, and demonstrates how texts may be interpreted specifically to support a preformed opinion. Written in straightforward, non-technical language, this classroom text is also ideal for Bible study groups.
This is an excellent book if you want a review of all mention in the New Testament as touching human sexuality including that of same sex relationship, marriage, adultery, divorce and remarriage, celibacy and sexuality in the new creation with careful attention paid to meaning in context. The author does a laudable job of presenting this material without any obvious bias. This is a clearly written and interesting read.
Quite a dry read. At times comes off as more of a lit review than a critical analysis. In the end, Loader makes some cogent points, but avoids taking a position on much of anything (which probably wasn't his goal).
The author is obviously a liberal, but he doesn't seem to have an axe to grind. He goes where he understands the text to go, and is often quite insightful.
Good survey of New Testament passages relating to sexuality. Loader is largely successful in controlling his bias; he makes it clear but it doesn't impact his choice of sources or analysis.
