Sophie is the pen name of Jenny Haddon, who also writes under her own name and as Sophie Weston. She lives in London.
Jenny Haddon was born in London, England, where she always returns after the travels that she loves. When she was small, her mother couldn't bear reading aloud, so her mother taught her to read at an appallingly precocious age. She wrote her first book with her own illustrations at the age of four but was in her 20s before she produced her first romance as Sophie Weston.
She studied English Language and Literature at university. Choosing a career was a major problem. It was not so much that she didn't know what she wanted to do, as that she wanted to do everything. So she filed and photocopied and experimented. She worked as consultant at the Bank of England and all the time she drew on her experiences to create her Mills & Boon books. She edited press releases for a Latin American embassy in London (The Latin Afffair); lectured in the Arabian Gulf (The Sheikh's Bride); waitressed in Paris (Midnight Wedding); and made herself hated by getting under people's feet asking stupid questions under the grand title of consultant all over the world (The Millionaire's Daughter). She also is an active member of the UK's Romantic Novelists' Association's Committee, and was its twenty-three Chairman (2005-2007).
Jenny has one house, three cats, and about a million books. She writes compulsively, Scottish dances poorly, grows more plants than she has room for, and makes a mean meringue.
Exactly what I was looking for. Assholes are so overrated, whatever happened to the sweet and considerate types? They're just as sexy and hot, minus the 'treating you like crap part'! How about a man that is strong and capable? Isn't afraid to back down and protect his woman? Don't have to be an asshole for that. This was a very sweet and beautiful story. Bella Greenwood is a regular girl leading a regular life until she catches the eye of the Prince of Wales. Meeting under mysterious circumstances, she doesn't know who he is. But they have a very special moment and their future pretty much takes off from there.
Being with a royal and then getting engaged has it's disadvantages, however. There's tons of protocol, expectations, traditions...all of it soon becoming too much for Bella. She undergoes big changes but will it all work out? Is there someone out there to get her? Apparently so--the culprit was a little predictable--, All of it adding to the ridiculous mishaps that happen to her. The end result is a sweet, uplifting and touching story about LOVE, sacrifice and the lengths we go to to protect the one we cherish. I loved Bella. She was a great character, I honestly could see her as one of my friends. The secondary cast was colorful and supportive. Richard, the Prince was divine. I loved this man! So sweet, the things he said to her...GAH! And this wasn't all fluff either. There were moments I almost teared up, felt really moved by the story.
The author is British, so of course I had a riot reading and trying to understand all the lingo and cultural anecdotes. Loved the way they spoke. It was hard to put down and I'm so glad I read this. This is the second book about a 'commoner' marrying a royal( first being Suddenly Royal)and I loved them both. Great story, lovely characters and although there wasn't necessarily any steam, albeit references and the build up to sex but no explicit details, this was more about the romance and the love between Richard and Bella, loved it.
Belle it’s a modern girl who doesn’t believe in fairytales. She believes in working her way through life, be adventurous and maybe, someday, find someone who will make you want to settle. But one day at a party she meets a guy that changes everything…. The only thing is that guy is the Prince of Wales and future king of England.
They can keep a pretty perfect relationship while their romance is still a secret, but the world as eyes on him 24 hours a day and eventually they’ll have to come public. Especially after a very public engagement. So now, Belle is finding herself in a completely new and scary world, with words like “Press Team”, “Etiquette” and “Protocol” winking at her at every corner. The only thing keeping her grounded is the man she is sure to love and wanting to spend the rest of her life.
But if a relationship is hard to maintain in the normal world…. It is a million times harder to stay in love when all the world is watching you. And expecting you to fall.
This a very sweet book. The writing was very engaging and I loved the connection between the two main characters. Belle was a strong heroine that would bend for now one, not the royal family, not the paparazzi and especially not some hateful and jealous anonymous. Richard was a man that kept his feelings and emotions very hide and in control, but the one thing that was clear is that he was head over heels with Bella. What made me give this rating, was first the lack of stem (I was expecting more, so much more! There’s just sweet romance… it lacks the hot part.), second… when the book reached the last 15/20 % it started being a little boring. There was nothing special happening and I only kept reading because after all they went through, I wanted to read the end. Anyway, a very sweet reading for when you need a light and fluffy one! ;)
Did what it says on the cover. Maybe I expected too much but for me, nothing really 'happened'. Boy (okay, Prince) meets girl, they fall in love, they meet the parents, they get married. Hmmm. Think what put me off was the way, after five minutes of knowing each other, they started calling each other 'love' so quaintly - something I've only ever heard married-for-thirty-years couples doing. It felt weird. Oh, and the name-change on one of the last pages of MC Bella to 'Beth' - don't mind the odd typo but to overlook the main character's name...! Great timing, Great idea, disappointingly not a Great read.
Ein erfolgreiches Experiment also.
This is such a nice surprise for me. I just want to read something royal like my favorite and the close one is this. I am not sure at first as it's quite pricey. But I am so glad I bought it because it turned out to be unputdownable and very fun to read. I read all day without getting any work done. Lucky my boss is not in town. It's not that sweet dreamy cheesy romance. It has lots of realistic bits on it, but there are some hidden sweetness in there. Prince Richard is a man of few words. Still, we can see very clearly he is head over heels in love with Bella and they are so meant to be. It will be perfect with epilogue though. If you want some inside royal family love story which is not cheesy, but tastefully sweet. May be you will love it like me.
2.5 stars Don't get me wrong, this was an enjoyable read, but there were just a few things that I was like 'ehhhh....' 1) the story felt dragged on, like honestly fifty pages could have been cut out of it and I would have enjoyed it a lot more 2) for me , there were too many characters that half the time I had no idea who anyone was (but that's just me because unless I am constantly reminded who the side characters are, I won't remember them :/) 3) IT WAS WRITTEN IN THIRD PERSON LIKE WHY?? For 95% of the time I spent reading this, I was thinking 'what was the point of writing in third person?' I would have preferred if this was in first person as I kept on getting confused as because IT WASNT WRITTEN IN FIRST PERSON But don't get me wrong, third person is great (but in my opinion, don't use it unless it's multiple points of views or a fantasy novel)
This was cute and just what I was in the mood for.
Non-angsty, non-controversial, creampuff-type story with no real conflict and a HEA. I would have given it one more star if it included a sappy epilogue, but no such luck.
A light read, without a lot of tension. Cute enough, even if the characters are fairly generic and mild mannered.
What would happen in a slightly different England, if a 'regular' girl who is a bit of a klutz fell into some shrubbery at a party and was rescued by the young and eligible Prince of Wales?
Well, this book is what. But in a milder England with a kinder press, and a fairly level-headed regular girl, there isn't much conflict or tension to be had. And when the Prince of Wales is a nice guy who is polite, dull and looks after his love interest, commoner be damned, then it makes for a fairly tepid, but sweet story.
In the circumstances it was exactly what I was in the mood for, and it made for a decent read. Just don't expect too much from it.
This is a really really sweet love story set in an alternative British universe where King Henry and Queen Jane are on the throne. Our Hero Richard is the Prince of Wales and one night he rescues klutzy Bella from a tangle of vines and potplants. And they fall in love.
The nicest thing about this story is that Richard and Bella are just obviously in love. It is the situation that is fraught with difficulties as Bella must negotiate the world of the Royal family with the attendant perils of protocol, security, paparazzi and the bureaucracy surrounding every moment of the day.
Richard is plain straight out adorable and Bella is an every day girl thrown into a situation that at first glance is horrifying for someone as publicity shy and clumsy. How they work through it all makes for a great read and you are sure to end with a smile on your face.
This was an angst-free simple romance where a commoner meets her Royal Prince. Set in a somewhat alternate reality, the British royal family is replaced by the hero's family but otherwise exactly the same. The romance happened at a quick pace and was unrealistic, but it was written in such a way that didn't feel rushed.
I was gripped by this book and couldn't put it down; however, the ending was lacklustre, and it somewhat ruined the book for me. Overall it is a lovely book if you're looking to escape for a little while.
To Marry a Prince is an amazing, stunning, beautiful novel with ordinary girl who marries her Prince! Prince Richard of England!!
Bella Greenwood is a loving, wonderful strong female character who made me laugh and smile through reading the whole entire book.
Richard I adored and not just cause he's the main character but he's so genuine. I loved reading about him. He was such a fantastic character.
Bella and Richard meet at such an awkward and embarrassing moment for her. As she's on the ground surrounded by Ivy and plant pots. But the hero that is Richard sweeps in with his dancing eyes and helps Bella recover from her untimely mistake.
Bella soon realises she's sitting in the near dark outside telling this man whom she just met all about her life. Even the bad bits! Though Richard is quickly impressed with her and enjoys talking with her.
All too soon Cinderella is whisked of home near the stroke of midnight in a taxi only to realise in the morning her shoes are quite safe but her mobile has been misplaced! Calling her number she hears the voice of the man she'll never forget!
Richard and Bella fall in love. Truly in love! With their fair share of scandals and highlights in the newspapers they don't really give a damn as long as they have each other. Their story is phenomenal and also quite obsessive. They take readers on a whirlwind romance or just an ordinary love with a girl falling in love with her prince.
I love the Royals! Like love them and reading about the royals in To Marry a Prince was fantastic! George is Richards brother and while Richard is the sensible brother. George is the total opposite from giving kisses at hen nights to going about London on a bike dressed as a gorilla the brothers are so different.
George is one of my favourite characters he's funny and intriguing and acts only sometimes the way he should. Immediately he likes Bella and thinks she's perfect for his brother as it gives Richard that little bit of freedom.
Princess Eleanor the brothers sister is so the party girl always up for a fun time and cases quite a scandal on Bella's hen night. I liked reading about her as she fit in so well with the characters.
Lottie is Bella's best friend and also chief bridesmaid which Lady Pansy is not to thrilled about. She's funny and a brilliant intriguing character to read about, through the book I thought their were a few men who she could have started a romance with but it never quite happened. Lottie was such an amazing character though and such a true honest best friend!!
I loved Bella's parents. Her biological parents Fin and Janet and her step-father Kevin. They were so enjoying to read about as it gave a good twist to the story.
All in All To Mary a Prince I thoroughly loved reading page after page! It was truly an amazing story one which I could never tire of. I will defo read it again as it is the perfect romance for all ages!
I was recently on a reading binge that involved a prince with an ordinary girl. Of the books I read in this genre, this was my favorite.
There are parts of this book that are rather trite, but you should expect that even as you first read this book because hey, it's about a royal falling in love with an ordinary girl. So we have Bella, who's been away on a distant island for sevearl months, which explains why she doesn't recognize the prince. She's lovely, she's normal, and she has the air-headedness that's requisite in these types of books. She's not completely stupid, but she's also a little quirky.
Then there Richard, the crown prince. He's everything you would imagine in a prince--assertive, responsible, handsome, charming, etc.
The book follows their relationship from how they meet, to how they start dating, their engagement, and the troubles they face. However, the book doesn't try to create some greater purpose where one doesn't exist. The purpose of this book is a light, fun, but well-written read, and it achieves that purpose wonderfully. Yes, we know that the life of a royal may not be all fun and designer clothes. We know that privacy becomes a highly prized commodity. But rather than harping on that, this book allows the reader to indulge in the fantasy of the normal girl and her happily ever after with her prince.
It started out with such promise to be a really charming, funny bit of fluff. Then the pacing fell apart and it got bogged down in a shocking amount of trivial unpleasantness and unprovoked bouts of nastiness from the characters. It all gets a bit much when the protagonist whines for a few chapters solid about how terrible it is to have people want to wait on you and buy you things. Yes, your life of luxury is certainly hard.
She goes around completely sneering at protocol, history, tradition, the idea of royalty, and anyone richer than she is; who the hell does this book think its audience is if not people who enjoy those very things? Being born or marrying into the world's most famous royal family would absolutely be full of strain and difficulty, but it's not devoid of benefits. Also, you'd think she'd be a bit excited or flustered or show the slightest emotional reaction to meeting her sovereign and hanging out at the palace, but she doesn't care and hates it, respectively. I can't empathise with this person.
The author has a good voice and a nice comic touch, but blurgh. It went downhill. Either write a fluffy fantasy or don't, trying to write a deconstruction and play it straight is not going to make anyone happy. Writing a 'becoming a princess!' story with nothing but contempt for literally everything that entails is probably equally ill-advised.
(Isa)Bella Greenwood is somewhat of an adventurer. She's just coming back from a year on an island and is somewhat stranded. She's got nowhere to go, but her best friend Lottie (Charlotte) takes her in. They go to this posh work party of Lottie's and Bella ends up meeting the heir to the British throne, Richard, but she doesn't even know it. And once she realizes who he is, days later, she's really hurt, but eventually they decide to try to have a secret relationship. But life doesn't always go the way we want it to...
I think this was a really sweet book. It was based on the Kate-William wedding, but I like how it showed how tough life as a royal can be, for both royals and non-royals We always tend to think the grass is greener looking in, and have this fascination with royalty. I like how everyone in the book had issues and quirks, including royalty. It made the characters all the more likable and enjoyable.
I really liked this one. Bella Greenwood is an ordinary girl who has just come back into the UK from working abroad on an island. She meets someone at a party not realising that he is in fact Richard, Prince of Wales. They start a whirlwind romance and will they get their happily ever after? I could see this being made into a film. It's not really a naughty romance, although situations are implied, but it is more about their relationships and the things they go through. There are some very funny moments too, one part made me actually laugh out loud. I was in search of a light, fluffy and sweet read where you didn't have to think too much and this was perfect. The end was a bit predictable, there is a person online being rude and horrible to Bella and through out the book you try to guess who it is, and I kind of guessed who it was right away. but this is worth reading
I liked it. It's a very sweet story. The two leads are wonderful. The biggest flaw of this piece is that is sags in the middle. After she gets together with the Prince, it sort of flops around a bit, trying to find conflict. I wished she'd find a bit more-- or rather introduced the conflict with the blogger earlier. I'm also not sure about the speed of their engagement. It was awfully quick. Overall, a quick read, with characters you enjoy and root for. She had especially string secondary characters, I felt. Lottie, her roommate, and her mother stuck out especially.
I loved this book. It was a complete page-turner, couldn't put it down. Fortunately I didn't have to because I had a journey to do while I was reading it and could read almost straight through! The hero was to die for, the heroine was lovely, and the whole fantasy element of an alternative royal family had me completely hooked. It was beautifully written, the characters were completely believable and I was rooting for the happy ending from the start. There were no stupid misunderstandings and the obstacles made total sense. Lovely read from start to finish.
Let me first say that I'm not really into royal 'stuff' - princesses, kings, queens, etcetera do not excite me in the least. But what I like about this book is that the main character, Bella, isn't into that, either. She *is* into the Prince, though! I love how Sophie Page manages to turn a tired old tale of 'commoner makes good' into a modern, heart-warming and extremely readable story. If only the tabloids could manage the same...!
